Default [GUIDE] Viewing Replays

Welcome to Replays guide!

Quote:
1.24b replays can NOT be seen on 1.24c
1.24c replays can NOT be seen on 1.24b
In this guide you'll find the most common problems and answers at the same place. There will be clarifications of problems, screenshots, how to solve, broken replays and so on . . .

Replays can be accessed through 2 ways:
  1. Double clicking the desired replay
  2. Entering Warcraft, chosing Single Player -> View Replays

Some things you should already have:
  • Installed original Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne
  • Latest Patch (1.24c atm)
  • Official DotA map (only from getdota.com)
  • Maps must be .w3x extension, not RAR, or ZIP!

Before looking for answers, please, be sure that you have all those mentioned above!

Version Problems

These problems can happen due to constant update of Warcraft 3. Current patch is 1.24c, so If you want to watch older replays, you'll have to Have the Exact patch which was used for replay.

You can see the White replays. You can NOT see the Gray replays, since they are different patch.

Solution: Use http://www.playdota.com/forums/1269/...sion-switcher/ or manualy download 1.23 and 1.24 . Dont forget to backup your files which are being replaced.

Map Problems

The most common problems. Lets debug the picture:

1. Your first root folder. At 99% should be \Maps\

2. The biggest problem. It must be the exact same folder as replay is requesting! At my example I'm missing 6.61c map at \Maps\Download\ . Lets check my folder:

So there is the problem! I'm missing 6.61c map! Just copy+paste 6.61c map there, and you'll be fine!

3. Map version can be problem also. You must read letter by letter, as every letter counts. Example: "DotaAllstars 6.61c.w3x" not equals "Dota Allstars 6.61c.w3x". You see that one "space" is missing. That can be error too, so be carefull when looking at Map name. Every letter is important!

Solution to all these steps:
Always copy+paste requested map at the Exact folder which is Warcraft requesting. No exceptions!

Other Problems

Sometimes you have the right patch and map, but still it doesn't want to open. The most common error is that Replay was "converted" to desired patch (with custom program). Those programs can break replays, so you can't see them no matter what. I highly suggest you to use Version switcher instead of Replay converters, since converted replays are unreliable. If you think they are good (replays), upload them here, and we'll test.

Second error can be hacked map. It truly says 6.61c, but it can be Custom-hacked map, so you can't watch it, as you are missing that map. You better don't want to watch those replays as they serve zero purposes.

Follow the Map problems, and create those folders which is warcraft requesting. Follow the 1. 2. and 3.

A very well done guide, but I'm too lazy for using the version switcher just for watching replays, it does not matter anyway, I hardly ever analyze games or gameplay.

The latest patch is 1.24b, so the first post in this thread is out of date. Anyway, I mark all my created replays with the patch version in the replay name to easily remember what patch shall the replay use.

Hi, i have a problem.. it's with the newest replays, from 1.24 and 6.63b, when i load them by doble clicking they open de w3 (o.O), i succesfully loaded a replay from 6.61c (v1.24). i tried opening them from the w3 single player --> Replays and it just doesn't load.
The replays where downloaded from dota.replays.net and i never had any problems with them nor they convert the replays.

It seems that you have 1.24 instead of 1.24b. Download and install 1.24b patch. http://www.playdota.com/forums/33279...l-about-1-24b/

Try this:
Right click replay file > "Open with..." > Choose program > "C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3.exe"

If that works, to set that program as default, right click replay file > Properties > Opens with: "Change" > Warcraft III

If that doesn't work, can you say what's your OS? or maybe post the replay? If you move the replay to the replay folder, and then watch it trough "W3 > Single player > Watch replay", does that work?

I have tried doing that, doesn't work.
I'm running vista.
Yeah that works but it's such a hassle when i want to watch a few replays on different pages i have to put them all in that one folder.

Mmmm, that's strange.

Try this: Right click on replay file > Run as Administrator

When I watch SMM replays, I load a replay, but the game defaults to normal mode and no heroes get picked. Map is running but no game commands get carried out? I have the latest patch version of WC3. Thanks in advance!

Use this program to rollback to the W3 version 1.24b (the version where those games were played on), and you should be fine.

That is not true. Read the all letters. Every letter counts. Even "space" is important.

You must have the EXACT map into EXACT folder. Upload the replay and I'll tell you where's the problem, if you can't solve it.
