Default [IMPLEMENTED][ANIMATION] Hunter in the Night


Introduction

Some of you might know me (and this topic) from the old DotA forums, where I've made a couple of well-received suggestions that ultimately made their way into the game.

One of those well-received suggestions of the old forums going by the same name as this topic was implemented too, except that it wasn't done all too properly. And this is what this topic is for--to bring attention to this fact once again

The Suggestion

The cosmetic suggestion for Hunter in the Night on the old forums saw the addition of pretty purple and black effects on the Night Stalker's hands post v6.55, as shown in the picture below (the picture below is taken from DotA):



The thing, however, is that my suggestion was supposed to look something like this:



That is, there isn't that overused orange aura model following the Night Stalker around (even in daytime). Not only does it not make any sense on the Night Stalker (he has no aura abilities to speak of!), the model is also very overused (Beastmaster uses it, neutral Centaur uses it, and even Tauren Chieftain uses it now). Remove the aura effect on the Night Stalker.

And another more thing: I'd like to propose a little change to the purple effect that is attached on the Night Stalker's hands. In short, instead of using the Druid of the Talon missile (Abilities\Weapons\DruidoftheTalonMissile\Druidofth eTalonMissile.mdl), we should use the Devour Magic missile (Abilities\Spells\Undead\DevourMagic\DevourMagicBir thMissile.mdl). Yes, they're both tiny purple effects on the hand, but you see lots of difference when the Night Stalker starts running (left is with the current effect, right is with the new):



The additional purple trail doesn't only look nice. It serves to differentiate the effect from Shadow Priest's Weave, which uses the same black effect Hunter in the Night has on the hands. The purple trail also makes the purple more noticable on certain Night Stalker colors (try looking for the purple effect on the Night Stalker when his player color is blue).

In Summary...
  • Balanar doesn't need the orange aura from learning Hunter in the Night.
  • Balanar needs to have his current purple effect (Abilities\Weapons\DruidoftheTalonMissile\Druidofth eTalonMissile.mdl) replaced with Abilities\Spells\Undead\DevourMagic\DevourMagicBir thMissile.mdl so that he leaves cool purple-black trails when he runs.
  • Post a T-up somewhere on your post if you support this

T-Up. I agree with the cosmetic change is need. His aura is overused. You seem to have talent in creating skills/heroes. Check out this hero and tell me what you think. We are looking for an experienced programmer to help us creating this hero.

Also, I like the new color trail for NS. The black effect is used by Weave.

Do you know how painful it is to test it when the map is protected? It is just annoyance to put it in folders and then start wc3, I prefer CTRL + F9... what purpose is there to protecting this map?

Looks better than some Avenger missile with druid of the talon attached, T-Up.

Cool your at this forums too I hope at this time now it will be implemented 100% (with the black and purple effects) and the red aura be removed.

Also you might want to suggest the casting animation of Balanar on his ulti (the one where he raises his hands instead of the current one we have).

T-up. Although It probably wont be much easier to tell if he's affected by weave with the other effect. But it does look cooler.

Using overused animation is stupid so I t-up. It does looks freakin' cool. I have one idea, could you make the dark trail more visible?

I agree that the aura around him should be removed because it is not needed and overused. The little purple trail stands out more than the black one, and I like that, especially if you are going to remove the aura. Because it's not really needed but it does fix a few annoyances i'd give this: 3 smiles out of 5

Full support on Terresquall's suggestions! I really hope IceFrog implements this correctly (taking off the orange model and placing the devour magic missile). Please implement this together with the casting animation (hands raising up, for his ultimate instead)
