After over a year of bitching about how the pitlord remake had ruined Pitlord right after my team had started using him to very good effect in competitive we finally have the hero that Dota deserves.

I absolutely love the new pitlord remake as it has captured everything that was great about the heroes flavor and role from before the remake.

We have the old firestorm back.
We kept pit of malice with damage.
We have diffusion aura replacing expulsion.
We have dark rift.


This hero is simply amazing and easily one of the highlights of this version!

Hand of Midas Primer

For anyone who was interested I am more or less finished with the Hand of Midas primer. At some point I might make the tables look a little bit cleaner cut and store the images on PD instead of Imgur.

Rewriting Bone Guide

Midas evaluation is about 95% complete.

I've rewritten the core material about most of the item builds so far.

Still some work to do, including getting pictures and possibly videos of gameplay.

Started playing Dota2

Last week I finished my internship for the summer and finally started playing Dota2 a bit more. I have a number of reasons to dislike the game and I still haven't found any good reasons why I should like it.

I'm moving into my dorm for my senior year this semester and I hope that my connection is good enough that I can play Dota2 from my room this semester. I don't really care if that means I'm playing in the middle of the night because I can do many more things with my sleep schedule at school.


Some issues I have with Dota2:

Valve managed to fuck up legacy hotkeys. I was playing Rubick last night and for some reason my burrowstrike hot-key became Y instead of E. How hard would it be to port legacy hotkeys for that hero, seriously, you give him all these stupid new animations and you can't get a few lines of code right to line up the hotkeys? Get your priorities straight and make a functional game.

Orb skills in Dota2 are not anywhere near as powerful as they are in Dota1. You can't drift with the animation buffer to effectively toss orbs at 800-1000 range. The only good thing about the Dota2 system is that I can use alt-hotkey to toggle my orb status. This seems relevant for a Drow with HOTD or a Bone with Deso, but that's about it.

The game spacing still feels weird to me, I know I have less than 30 hours of gameplay on the client and probably less than 12 in the past two weeks. It seems like the importance of range was greatly reduced by valves implementation. Veno feels far more threatening than he should feel and even melee appear to close the gap to attack range more rapidly. We'll see if I maintain this perspective as I play more.

The MM system is pretty dreadful, most of the games are you and a team of retards against a 5 stack that feels the need to pick a better lineup than they could ever get in a CM game against you. It's a pretty big joke and solo MM que should have lower priority to match up against stacks while stacks should have higher priority to match up against each other.

The GFX feel wrong, I dislike the ambient setting and how the terrain has changed, maybe I just need to increase my brightness setting. Many spell animations also seem like they aren't as apparent as they were in dota1, but again that might just be my inexperience.

The GUI is bad, relevant things are too small and located in weird places. I very much hope that I will be able to customize this later in the life of the game.

Courier control is forced. I understand valve wants to promote a more "friendly" environment but they really need to fix this. It's stupid to be forced to share control with an absolute retard and let them completely ruin your ability to use it effectively.

I could probably go on but I think that's enough for this post. I hit on most of my concerns.
