How I found League of Legends, and how you can too

I went to DotA-AllStars.com and found a letter from Pendragon, a copy of which is here:

(link)

I decided I would give LoL a try. After playing a few matches, I told my friends who also joined up on LoL - after that week, none of us has ever played a single game of DotA, and we never responded to any of DotA 2 either. Why would we downgrade to anything else?

I did find it extremely challenging to start up LoL with all my past knowledge of DotA - it has taken me just over 300 games, and I am now at the level where I can play on a competitive level with other people.

The biggest changes that I remember are the brush/grass, and the complete overhaul of champions (hero's?) roles and stats. Both are what caused me to have to play the hundreds of games to learn how to play - but it is more fun than ever. The people are way nicer, more immature or silent really 33%/33%/33% chance for any, but when I started everyone was nice and friendly (before the DotA trolls made their way over, I presume).

The next difference that I notice is that LoL is much more of a team based game - it really requires much more effort from each person. I cannot really explain it very well, but you have to have a really high level of instinct when you play LoL.

Anyway, I hope that you will at least try out LoL, it is free and takes less than an hour to start up (most likely ^_^) - I have been DotA free for over a year and have never looked back.

Cheers.

P.S.: A big reason why I left DotA with no chance of me coming back, was IceFrog's attempt at secretly selling it to a corporation. I know that all of the original people who put work into this game, were for purely having fun with other people with competition, and they really left the game free to whoever could play - and then this money greedy punk known as Ice Frog, comes along and tries to sell it to a corporation. If IceFrog was able to do this, we would all have to be reaching into our pockets (or parents pockets), just to have the same fun that we were before. Because of League of Legends, many other games are now free, and _I_ don't have to pay a cent to still have the same fun that Guinsoo created many years ago. I hope you find the same path that I did. (see Pendragons letter for details about IceFrog's attempt to backstab the community)

DOTA 2 IS A JOKE

Posted 09-08-2011 at 03:39 AM by Bone_Bag

Ok, I have said it all along that DotA 2 is a joke.

NOW YOU HAVE SEEN IT (if you haven't check out the tournament videos on the dota2.com website)

The music is full of primitive looping sound effects, the 3d graphics are cheap (even though the textures look quite decent), and the LADY'S VOICE IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING? Did you notice how annoying she was?

By the way, I didn't even realize the million dollar championship happened until now LOL because the server for the good game that I play is currently down and I was googling stuff abouts it and came across it.

On top of the sad things I posted above, the animations of the units are horribly out of sync with the rotation and movement of the heroes!

I was really saddened that many many visual aspects of DotA were completely left behind, like towers and many heroes visual appearance.

Anyway, even if the game is free, I still am not planning on touching it - it took so long for them to come out with such a horrible game, why would I ever even consider downgrading to it?

The main things that I was disturbed by in the videos were:

- Voice of main speaker lady annoying as anything
- Cheap music with hard core repeat
- Cheap repetitive sounds (cheap as in 100% synthesized, and bad sounding to the brain)
- Destruction of old DotA stuff into more cheap things
- The entire map conversion looks horrible - it doesn't even have the feel of DotA
- Hero's annoying and redundant remarks
- Even abilities and items are completely out of the DotA style - after all this time with IceFrog, you would think he would be consistent with DotA2, maybe he was fired lol.
- Entire GUI is totally not the DotA style, and it looks EXTREMELY cheap like someone was on windows 3.1 and used ms paint to create it in their spare time on a few weekends
- Spawning of creeps is so cheap it's pathetic
- Everything looks old and faded - a lot of the bright colors don't exist. It just looks so old fashioned or worn out or something lol

The things I liked were:
- Nice textures, it looks like a lot of graphic work was put into this, but not as much programming. I saw a lot of texture collision errors, A LOT - especially lighting.
- Nice shadows
- Seems most of the heroes were ported over - even though they were raked over by some non DotA community people (obviously)

Anyway, I still feel like this about the whole DotA2:

And it all began with their blog saying to check it for updates, and the first thing they said (many months later), was that a milion dollar prize was being put up!

I wish I did not waste the twenty minutes watching those garbage videos...

Anyway, now that you've read my rants...

Oh, yes an update about the other game I play LOL! It is sooooo much better in many many ways, I can get into a game now within 5 seconds, and there have not been ANY leavers in the past 29 games. Also, people were very helpful and did not get angry in any of them (aside from a little quarreling here and there).

Riddle #13

Posted 08-02-2011 at 05:53 PM by Bone_Bag

I begin with one thousand,
half of that at my end.

In between, you will see,
I am nine and forty.

To give you one last hint,
Bland is my synonym.

Checking in after some time to old fashioned DotA:

Kinda thought that DotA2 was going nowhere ;p

No posts since November 2010: website link

Probably not the right place to say it, but if you are bored of DotA, it is time to move on.

I do want to give you a heads up, my experience with an unnamed paying game has been EXTREMELY bad. Getting your money back because of technical problems is impossible. I received emails from them that they contradicted later on and lied about. There is at least one free game like DotA out there, which is what I play. I have contacted them a couple of times and got polite and quick responses. I have supported them financially for the 'bonus' stuff and it was well worth it.

One other thing I want to mention is I have saved MANY HOURS of my life by moving on to [the unnamed game], mostly because everyone wants to play and is not a lil 8yo leaver/rager.

Cheers!
