One year ago today I wrote my first blog. Since my activity on this blog has been less than existent so far, I've decided to make this my yearly blog. For this entry, I'm just going to give some of my opinions of the past year and discuss about some random things I feel like talking about.
This has really been an exciting year. Things happened that I would have never dreamed of when I began playing DotA years ago. Overall, I think it's been a pretty good year.
This year I had the chance of working at myMYM.com. I originally planned on backing off the competitive scene more than I did, but when I heard that myMYM had been re-establishing, I thought it would be a good idea to help it start off since it used to be such a positive news site for DotA. At the beginning, I really enjoyed it. Writing is something I take a lot of pleasure in (despite news not really being my style). One of the things I enjoyed most was that, to a certain group of people, my feedback was valued and often acted on. Certain parts of the current website design were actually suggested by me. I was also able to follow through with some cool article ideas such as a piece I did with some legendary DotA retirees and a 6.65 feedback article. Right before I retired I was planning and was almost finished with a Capture Point showmatch with some of the best players in western DotA that had agreed to play (PGG, MiSery-, Ro-Coco, and Demon for example). Unfortunately, myMYM broke a promise they made to me and my involvement there was cut short, so I wasn't able to follow through with it.
The competitive scene this year has had a lot of ups and downs, but as of now I am pretty confident that it's made positive improvements since last year. It's weird to think that $6,000 tournaments were considered a lot only a little over a year ago. In fact, I'm pretty sure I would have peed myself a year ago had I known that DotA would -ever- have a $30,000 online tournament(!!!).
Summer is coming to an end and I'm not really sure at this point whether I should be sad that it's over... or happy that it's been a pretty awesome summer. Unfortunately though, due to school starting soon I had to give up some responsibilities that I would have liked to keep doing. I'll still be around though, no worries.
Over the last few months I've started watching this awesome show called Boondocks. I occasionally watched it in the past but lately I've really started liking it. If you're into animated tv shows with subtle humor and some political meaning, I definitely recommend it.
Anyways, I think that's enough. I hope I didn't leave anything I wanted to talk about out because if I did I'm going to have to wait a year to talk about it -_-. I don't know how many people are going to read this, but if you guys wanna post questions here I'll try to answer them next year.
Hopefully a year from today I'll be blogging about how kickass Valve DotA is and how pleased I am with what it's done for the community. Till next year, later.
