Contest

Just letting you all know that I am not dead, just taking a break to prepare for final exams this week and the beginning of next week. After finals end, I will be back to my posting.

On to the good news: I am deciding to hold another beta key giveaway contest. I have been told by previous winners that the keys I give away actually come with 2 free steam invites too, so you can invite 2 friends as well to play dota 2 with you! The details are still under construction, but the contest will be related to my blog in some way. More news to come.

EDIT: The entry time is now over. The two winners have been PM'd about their key. I may or may not post the winners' names depending on their preference. If the winners do not claim their prize in 1 week, I will give their key to a runner up. Thanks a ton for participating and remember, I have more keys to give away at a later date!


Just a reminder that today is the last day to submit your part 2 entry (remake of 2 skills of one of my heroes). You have about 12 hours to do this.

For those of you who already sent an entry, I received it and am in the process of scoring them. I will probably contact the winners sometime today or tomorrow and ask them how they would like to receive the beta code.

I won't post the winner(s)' names unless the winner agrees to it. If you would like to receive a breakdown of your score, you can pm me after the contest ends.


For future contests: Those beta keys come with 2 additional invites! Meaning you get a code which will get you and two friends into dota 2!!!

After going over the entries (unfortunately there were less than expected but oh well, your guys' gain) I would like to inform you that everyone who submitted an entry to part 1 scored high enough to make it to part 2.

Those of you who sent me an entry for part one before today were accepted to round two.

MOVING ON!

Round 2 will require players to pick 1 hero from my blog and remake 2 of that hero's skills. Players are free to pick any hero I have posted on this blog. You MUST provide a link to the hero suggestion so I can easily find it. You MUST only remake 2 skills (no more, no less).

If you did not enter during phase 1, you are still allowing to enter late in part two. Any entries which did not participate in part 1 however, will lose 5% from their score.


Entries will be judged based on the following:

• Synergy with the original skills <25%>
• Fitting in with the hero's theme <15%>
• Balanced and unique in mechanics and numbers <10%>
• Simple enough for first time players to understand, while also complex enough so skilled players can use the skill to perform some great feats <30%>
• Following the rules (2 skill are remade, you chose and linked to a hero on my blog) <15%>
• Participated in the part 1 contest <5%>

You have until MARCH 18th to submit an entry. Failure to submit on time will result in disqualification.

Depending on the quantity and quality of entries, I will award anywhere between 1 to 3 beta keys (at my discretion).

PART 1 IS NOW IN PROGRESS UNTIL MARCH 9TH!!

I felt doing another quiz (I did a quiz contest last time for keys) would be too redundant and I would end up using old questions. So with that in mind, the structure and date of the contest are revealed!


PART 1: Any person willing to enter may participate. Players will have to pick one of the following heroes and REMAKE ANY ONE of their skills:

• Magnataur
• Phoenix
• Pit Lord
• Drow
• Nerubian Assassin

Your skill remake will be scored based on the following:

• Synergy with other skills and hero theme (25%)
• Complexity, not too complex but not necessarily too simple (20%)
• General Balance (15%)
• Complete and detailed on the specifics of the skill so I get a good idea of how it works (30%)
• Following the guidelines [chose a hero from the list, good choice of remake skill, only remade 1 skill] (10%)

PM YOUR REMAKE TO ME BETWEEN NOW AND MARCH 9TH TO ENTER. ONCE YOU SUBMIT A REMAKE, YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO CHANGE YOUR ENTRY.

The TOP SCORERS from part one will compete in part 2 for anywhere between 1 to 3 beta keys. Part two's specifics and times are currently TBD. This means submitting an entry in 5 minutes will not get any bonuses over an entry sent on the last submission day! TAKE YOUR TIME

I am getting closer to preparing my contest.

For starters:
The contest will have 2 parts. ***EDITED, SEE LATER POST

1) A quiz based on my blog posts and suggestions, along with miscellaneous questions. I will take the top scores here to move on to the final round.

2) Contestants will have to pick a hero I have posted on my blog and remake the hero (I should see 1-2 skills be completely overhauled to change the hero in a significant way). The key to this part of the contest will be to remake an old hero into something new, while still maintaining traces of the original idea.

This style of contest will weed out those of you who think I will blindly hand my keys to a lucky person. You will need to demonstrate interest in my blog, my ideas, and dota in general to get a key. More details and dates will be posted in another post at another time. You can always check the Contest 2 tag for info.
