[Step 3] Playing Online / DotA Platforms

Now that you have installed the game and are familiar with all the tools to get you online, it's time to help you find a game.

Playing against the AI and bots is very handy when it comes to learning the game but the more important factors such as teamwork, gameplay and etc can only be understood and practiced when playing against other players from around the world.

In this guide, we will teach you how to start playing DotA Online on the inbuilt Warcraft III platform called "Battle.net".

Here is a detailed guide on how to get started on playing DotA on Battle.net

Step 1: Starting the Game


Start Warcraft III: Frozen Throne

Step 2: Setting Battle.net Realm


On the main menu, click on the "maginifying glass" beside Battle.net

This will open up the Battle.net Gateway Selection screen to the right hand side. Choose your continent and press "Ok". This is where you are being asked to select the Battle.net server you wish to play on.



Once you have done this, you have set your server / realm. Every time you login, this will act as your default Battle.net server. You can change this later by once again following Step 2.

Step 3: Entering Battle.net


Now click on Battle.net and enter their realm.



Step 4: Terms and Conditions


Once you are in, for a first time user, it will take you to their Terms of Agreement screen.

On this screen, you need to SCROLL DOWN till the end of agreement which will activate the "Agree" button. Click on "Agree".



Step 5: Login Screen


Now you are at the Battle.net login screen. You will need to create a Battle.net account in order to login. Click "Create a New Account".



Step 6: Creating An Account


You are now on the Account Creation page. On this page enter the following details to make an account.

Your Name: This will act as your nickname and account username here on Battle.net
Password: This will act as your password for your account. Make sure you note it down or remember it.
Repeat Password: You need to re-enter your password again for security reasons.



Once this is done, please click "OK" to create your account.

Step 7: Logging In to Battle.net


Once your account has been created, it will take you back to the login screen. Enter your account name and your password and click on "Logon" to enter Battle.net



Step 8: Creating / Joining A Game


Now that you are logged in to Battle.net you will need to either Create a Game or Join a Game in order to play. In the top Menu, you can see a parchment icon. Click on it. That is the Custom Games list.



Step 9: Entering a Game


Once you are here, you will now be shown all the hosted games on Battle.net
You can join any of the games or instead you can create your own. You can do this by clicking on "Create Game" at the bottom and then hosting a map with your specifications.

The list of hosted games shown to you might consist other maps too. If you specifically want to play DotA, please use the "Filter" button above to search for DotA games. Once you find one, double click on it to enter.



Step 10: Wait For Game to Start


Now that you are in the game. You will now have to wait for the host to start the game or if you are the host, wait for players to join your game and then start it yourself.
