Default Your PC specs

Hello,

I am planning to buy a new PC since my current PC has delayproblems and I am not able to sort it out. I have tried loads of different things, but nothing seems to work. I am only going to play dota. I would like to know your current PC specs (videocard, processor, memory, Operating system etc). But only answer if you dont experience any delayproblems whatsoever, game is perfectly smooth and running well on mediumsettings throughtout the whole time (60 +minutes and fps is constantly 60). Also, I am going to buy some older machine since I have tight budget, therefore I would like to get an answer from people who are using a PC to play dota, which is at least couple of years old.

Thank you in advance,
Fr3

Why not just play DotA2?

This does not sound like a hardware problem. More latency/internet connection. Do you know where the servers are located when you play DotA? Are you playing through a LAN cable or via WiFi? Have you done www.speedtest.net tests? Check for ping in various areas near you or far from you (Europe/US). Might be a bad ISP. Because the min requirements.. they just make you laugh..

Warcraft 3 frozen throne:
Minimum System Requirements:

400 MHz Pentium II or equivalent, or a 400 MHz G3 processor or better.
Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. Warcraft III requires Mac OS 9.0 or higher, or Mac OS X 10.1.3 or higher
Warcraft III requires 128 MB of RAM. Virtual Memory should be enabled on computers running pre-Mac OS X versions of the Mac OS.
A keyboard and mouse are required.
A hard drive with at least 550 MB of free space

The minimum specs tell a jack shiz about what Dota actually requires.

Any semi-modern computer should run dota. I doubt it's a hardware problem that you're having, especially if it's like how your recent topic around the subject was.

As for the last post in the last topic:

Have you tried anyone else's computer, connection and WC3 and see if the "latency" is the same for them?

You don't NEED new CDs to play dota; WC3 doesn't even require the CDs to play as of the latest patches.

If you don't experience the lag outside of Warcraft 3, then the installation gone bad is the only thing I can think of, or having some malware on the computer slowing it down.

How can an install gone wrong induce 0.5 to 1 second delays? It's not like the game is going to override your mouse/windows relay times.

If it is a bad install try playing offline, if you still have latencies, then we might have a bad install. Right now that is very unlikely. I'm pretty sure its internet connection.

The delay is both offline and online. Does not matter whether im playing in Internet or vs A.I., it is still there. I got 2 sets of both WC3 and TFT, have tried them both, no difference. Moreover, I have done complete system clean-up, I restored my PCs factory settings, still nothing. I have tried every single possible logical option and I have reached a dead-end. Noone else seems to experience same problem as I do. Dont get me wrong, the game is still playable, but it is not as enjoyable as it should be and in some cases the delay completely ruins the whole game. I once had couple of years ago a PC which ran dota smoothly, therefore I got comparison and I know, how the game should run, but at the moment it doesnt. The only answer I got now is that my PC is just "too good" for dota, although many players have way better PC than I do and got no problems with dota whatsoever. Maybe my processors 4 cores are causing this problem sine WC3 was never built on more than 1 core, but I have tried playing it on 1 core, makes it even worse. Seriously, this does my head in, I have spent a lot of time and effort in this, but I have got nowhere and all this is so damn depressing.

Edit: DOTA2 does not attract me at all. I like dota simple graphics.

What is a complete system clean-up? Have you tried running other games and do they run fine? What is your RAM/CPU/GPU usage when playing DotA?

Edit: Is it anything like that or bigger delays? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oZkl...eature=related

Hey, nugistaja, the 1st link you gave me is not much of a help since dota and New Vegas or compeltely different games and cant really be compared in that aspect. But the other 2, where people are playing WoW are much better examples. I am not entirely sure, but I might be experiencing microstuttering as well, but mine would be somewhere between 2nd and 3rd link. 2nd one is not too bad, 3rd one is very bad and mine would be somewhere in between. But as I told, I am not quite sure whether that is the issue or not, but I think I have not tried this option before. Have you got any solutions which might help me out? I would be very thankful!

Asus Gamer OSD <-- Do you have that installed?

"To further remove most minor stuttering not due to system specs, you can disable Catalyst AI. This does not seem to be able to be done from Catalyst Control Center, so you will have to download a 3rd party program. I used RadeonPro and things are perfect now"

Ye, I give it a try, but the thing is that I just bought this videocard, but I had the problem before that already with ym onboard Intel i5 graphics.

Edit: I downloaded Radeonpro, but I am not quite sure how it helps me.
I just did the setup-bit. Since I read about stuttering, then many people recommended triple buffering and vsync to be kept ON, so did I in RadeonPro. laos, I enabled API monitoring, although, I do not know if it is useful or not.

Because in his older thread he tried it out and claimed that it was not due to latency.

VSYNC may increase inputlag but to be honest it shouldn't cause anywhere near the troubles you're having.

Well. There aren't many options left. It's a conflicting/malfunctioning software problem. Which one, we don't know.

Asus Gamer OSD comes with Asus Radeon cards btw.

Moreover, people recommended to uninstall software like Asus Gamer OSD and Asus Smartdoctor. I went to Control Panel -> Add/remove programs, but these were not listed there. Moreover, the guy In youtube does not say, what he exactly did in RadeonPro, which removed the stuttering.

Actually he did say he disabled Catalyst AI. I'll download the software, see if I can find that setting.

Have you tried setting war3.exe to run in win xp sp3 compability mode?

It's under Advanced tab and default set off. So yeah. that doesn't help

Well i mostly use my pc for Pro Evolution Soccer and some Counter Strike : Source so its a little more than what you need for dota.

CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86 Ghz Overclocked to 2.01 Ghz
RAM : 3 Gb DDR2
GPU : Nvidia 250 GTS Overclocked to 1001 Mhz Memory Clock and 700 Mhz Core Clock
Motherboard : Conroe Xfire E-SATA 2
OS : Windows 7 32 bit

CPU : Intel Pentium 4 @2-4 Ghz
RAM : 1-2 Gb DDR or DDR2
GPU : Nvidia 7500 GT
OS : Win XP

Simplicity itself. Just give 300 euro and you have a brand new pc for dota.

As for Dota 2 Change the upper with Core 2 Duo CPU arround 2 Ghz , and Nvidia 7600GT ( i was playing dota 2 on it fine but id recommend 8800 GTX at least). And make ram 2 Gb DDR2 at least.

Ye, I tried the compatibility thingy as well as other options there. Well, I do not have CCC installed either, so I cant have Catalyst AI. Btw, do you know what should I set Anti-alliasing, triple buffering, vsync etc in RadeonPro for The Frozen Throne?

Thanks, Messiah, for your answer.

I'm a bit confused, how did you download the latest drivers for your card?
Did you disable the onboard video?

The antialiasing etc. options are irrelevant at the moment.

Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Display -> Change Display Settings -> Advanced Settings - there you can download latest drivers for your graphics card and monitor.

As I restored my PC to factory settings, it automatically accepted my Radeon HD 6670 as my main videocard and never asked or installed to download CCC.

Did you disable the onboard video? Start menu->Search "Device manager"-> Display adapter->Rightclick disable on Intel something something.

You probably have done that.

I'm out of ideas other than you install the latest AMD provided drivers http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

If that gives you nothing you can try deleting them completely http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=ihVEGWrk5E4
and then trying a fresh install. But other than that I don't know.

Ye then we got stuck, but thanx for yoru help anyway. Still need to go for new PC though, but its gonna be a cheap and old one as it is supposed to be since WC3 is such an old game and dota is built on that - dota just need slightly better spec. Messiah recommended pretty good PC. Pentium 4, 3 GhZ, 2-3 GB DDR2-3, some cheaper GPU and Windows Xp should be good enough.

My laptop is worse than your desktop and it runs the game at 60 FPS.

Download the latest MSI Afterburner BETA and install it. Works with a video card of any model, not just MSI. You can download non-beta as well but it doesn't record sound (at least last time I used it).

Install the program and open it. Ignore the overclocking options, instead go to SETTINGS, open VIDEO CAPTURE, put video capture to a desired hotkey (one that does not conflict with other hotkeys). Set video format MJPG and use ~70-80% quality*. Put the framerate to 30 FPS, youtube doesn't accept more anyway.

*The quality means how good a picture you'll record. Leave it as high as you can, but don't put it too high or then your HDD simply can't capture all video and then the video becomes a slideshow.

Watch the video you just recorded and see if it shows the program you had. Upload the video to youtube, and put the link here.

Instead of getting a new computer I would get an SSD and use it to do a fresh install of windows. There is no way that this is hardware related.

CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9650 (2.3 GHz)
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 (800 MHz)
HDD: WD15EARS (Western Digital 1.5 TB Caviar Green)
PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus Series 500W
GPU: ASUSTeK Radeon HD 4850 (1 GB VRAM)
MOBO: Not sure, but it's definitely not a good one

I can play DotA 2 on high settings with no lag most of the time. I do get the occasional 'freeze' once or twice per game. I get lag spikes frequently, but that has to do with my internet connection (or faulty wireless adapter) than with my computer's hardware.
