Default Latest tech purchase thread

Bought a new case. Corsair 650D. This case is really nice and very well built. Don't think I will be buying another case for a long time. Highly recommend it.

Ditched the extra monitors. A single 2560x1440 monitor is good enough. Well I guess the TV helps too.

Might be picking up a GTX 680 SC tomorrow for $400. Can't wait :O

Thanks. The speakers are Klispch Promedia 2.1 and the headphones are Sennheiser HD598. I would recommend both .

Is this the one? Well I like it, seen a review on youtube. But I'm just gonna stick to my 30$ speaker system for now.

I like the new case but I preferred the look of your old side monitors. I could imagine how they would be redundant though

Yes, that's the one. I bought mine when it was on sale, though. I almost never buy anything at full price.

Yeah, In the end I found myself only using one of them to display my music list (which I happen to be doing with my TV now). The other just kind of sat there looking pretty. I had plenty of work space already.

Um, about $350 USD back in June/July of last year, I think.

Edit :

Dat 680!

New 17.3" Asus N76 laptop. Given fantastic performance so far. I'm very happy with it. No more MacBook Pro 15"

Cost $1877 (that's Australian prices, tho, they're always inflated by around 25-50% )

Nvidia GT650 with 4Gb, 8Gb RAM, i7-3630QM @ 2.4GHz and 1.5 terabyte HD (which is actually 4 harddrives). The OS and my personal stuff on 1 HD, Steam on another, movies have up their own and then TV shows are on the last drive. It also has a BluRay drive.

Unfortunately it came with Windows 8, but I quickly bastardised it into something resembling Windows 7 (Team Four Star logo for the Start Button :3) The fan is fantastic as well. It's both effective AND quiet which is amazing. Even better, it natively supports 1280x1024 so you can play Age of Empires II on the highest res without tweaking any system settings

To go with the laptop I have a set of Plantronics Gamecom USB headphones with Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound and a Cooler Master XORNET mouse.

Considering a Noctua DH14 cooler, any better suggestions? I am looking for a very silent setup as my current PC is using CM Blizzard T2 CPU Cooler which makes a fuckton of noise especially at night, and occasionally makes grinding noise which was temporarily fixed by knocking the sides of the case.

Also, my wire management is shit, there's no back casing or anything to hide my wires. Any help?

Thanks. My favourite part is still the ability to play Age of Empires II in glorious 1280x1024 res :> Nothing beats the classics. And what's more, I don't even have to use the "Close-Windows-Explorer-Then-Run-The-Game" work around in Windows 8 :O (I'm also running it in WinXP SP2 Compatability to be sure).

That and having (a smaller version of) this as my start button with Classic Shell:

They are good , under performance setting they are loud for some people though , comparing to my ex-Delta fans/1900XTX sound levels it's nothin tho

They are better but still there's no other reason to buy them over high-end aircoolers than possibly more convenient space requirements and the looks.

They did upgrade the fans but the biggest difference in the H100i is the software, really. Ideally you'd want to use something like Gentle Typhoons.

Im not a fan of air coolers at all, their bulk is something I dont like. I prefer a clean tidy look to my machine and they go against that

The h100i is a huge improvement over my h60. My temps never go above 45c at full load. My h60 idled at like 40-45c..

Idles at about 27c.

And yeah, I like the clean look that the liquid coolers give. I also would like not to remove a heatsink just to install RAM lol.

You will only get 40-45 fps on with a single 680 at 2560x1440 fully maxed out depending on the game. I was aiming for the 60 mark. Some lesser demanding older games will do fine but some other games not so much.

If I only played on a small 1920x1080 monitor, sure that's very unjustified. 2 680s is still kind of overkill but whatever. I got them both under retail price.
