Default Latest tech purchase thread

Fashionably late to the SSD party. Gonna get an Intel 530 120GB tomorrow since the guys at Asus are gonna wipe my hard drive while fixing my laptop.

It's a pretty good mouse, the old one last for a long time (my first release of 5400 dpi rat 7 last me for about 2-3 years), cuz my MMO7 lasted for only 1 year, also heard that this happened to other people as well from the shop owner, so yeah. (And he stop stocking up on R.A.T. line of mouse now)

Speaking of R.A.T, my R.A.T 5 is working well for over 2 years now. And my latest purchase that literally just arrived and I'm writing on it now:

Tesoro Durandal. My old keyboard's W button sunk into the keyboard itself from intense overuse (playing the shit out of TF2 and WoW) so I needed a new one that would last a while.

^How much DPI is your RAT 5?

Pre 6400 or first batch before MMO 7 should be the good batch.

My RAT 7 is 5400, the long lasting one.

Disagree. I have owned a few and am an avid Diablo player (best mouse killing game ever). All my razer mice are still alive and functional

Huh, I have had three Razer mice and they all spaz out on me (LMB double clicks on its own, that kind of thing) after a year of use.

Lots of web searches confirms that many others also have this problem, it's not indicative for sure, but Razer products aren't reliable for me.

Logitech hardly breaks, though I've heard some people having some issues with the G400 chord.

Last and only time I had to contact their support (mouse with slight sensor issues, didn't really affect in the use I was using the mouse for tbh but I'd rather have a "perfect one") all they wanted was a couple of pics and they sent me a new one, letting me keep the old. While on Razer's hide you might get refurbs and whatnot afaik.

I personally stand by the CM Storm XORNET mouse. Cheap and highly reliable entry-level gaming mouse. I've had this one for about a year and a half, no problems.

I still haven't replaced either of my logitech G5 mice lol. I think these are from like 2005 or 2006? I bought 2 of them because I liked the first one so much and they both still work flawlessly.

For a while I was using one at work and the other at home and the guy I was working with wouldn't shut up about how nice it was.

Needed something slim and relatively low-noise (also I'm a fan of old HP laptop keyboards).

Lucky :P. I wanted to buy one but they were out of production so I bought a G500. It started double clicking on me, but it was a relatively easy fix http://zalbee.intricus.net/2014/02/h...ch-g500-mouse/

Lenovo G405S laptop. I got the AMD A10-varient.
I still don't understand the point of switchable graphic but AMD 8600/8700M graphics intergrated and tri-crossfired, mmmm.....

Pathetic 4 hours battery life on power saving mode, but otherwise a rugged laptop with incredible craftsmanship.

Lucky fucker, my phone (which has VLC installed and thus plays .flac audio) only has 16Gb, which is only about 1/4 of my music collection

Plus great pro of fiio is that it has pretty good dac comparing to phones. Too bad Fiio X5 isn't available around here. It's a great play that also works very good with my DT770's unlike my phone which barely gives any bass/sound through them.

Little edit: if you need a cheap flac player - get Sansa Clip + 64gb card for it (should total under 100euros)

DACs are already figured out these days, it takes nothing to make a DAC good enough for human ears. It sounds a lot like "can't see above 24 fps" which is naturally bullshit, but as far as audio goes it's actually more or less true.

Whether if your player or phone is good enough to drive the headphones is another question. An amplifier might be needed if you have a more demanding pair of headphones, especially when it comes to mobile devices. The engineer expects you to use something like Porta Pro rather than high-end Sennheisers, so he goes with the cheaper and more energy-efficient solution.

I bought a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u CRT for $10. It's serving me quite well, running Dota 2 @ 1024x768 @ 120 hz. Smooth as butter, and it makes playing Quake and CS:GO super easy, as well.

Damn, I miss my old 17" CRT and wrecking shit @120Hz refresh rate.

But I play shooters on mega casual level these days, so it's alright.

I'd still have it if it didn't die, and it simply took TOO MUCH space. Tho sometimes I ran it @60Hz and 1600*1200 for ez sniping (or in DotA where resolution>refresh rate for me + it made no sense due to the limiations of the WC3 engine), or somewhere in between at like 85Hz and 1280*1024 so I could actually see stuff at mid-long range.

But yeah, fluidity was awesome (comparing prices, a decade ago a monitor like that wasn't exactly cheap, tho I guess today's top gaming monitors are way more expensive, relatively). But as said, I totally lost my drive to own scrubs, so 60Hz or 120Hz makes no difference to me (skill-wise, my eyes still appreciate it).

In regards to pricing, this particular CRT was manufactured in January of 2001 and cost about $950 at the time (at least in the United States). I don't remember too much about the cost of hardware at that time, but I do recall that you could get an entire notebook PC for $1200 at the time (Dell Inspiron 2500). My friend had a Pentium 4-based PC that cost $1500 for the whole rig (including peripherals) so it was quite a substantial amount. I think this has to do with the fact that the Diamond Pro 2060u is generally regarded as one of the best CRTs ever made. The fact that I picked it up for $10 attests to society's degradation in terms of technology and economics.

It really makes a huge difference to me, seeing everything in 120 hz, because fluidity is much more important to me than more visual FX or anti-aliasing or what-have-you. Especially in games like CS:GO and Dota 2, where mere milliseconds could decide the outcome of the game. Analog technology still has its uses! The fact that this CRT is over thirteen years old and is running strong as if it's just taken out of the box tells me a lot about the decline of reliability of hardware from most manufacturers.
