Default Latest tech purchase thread

My housemate and I just went halves in a Wii U. We got the Mario U + Luigi U bundle as well as purchasing Mario Kart 8 and we got a free download for Zelda: Wind Waker remake. We also bought the Princess Peach and Yoshi Wii remote plus controllers

Nice, how is it? Fun? With the e3 conference and upcoming titles, the WiiU is really tempting.

So far pretty good. Mario U is a little too easy and Luigi U isnt as fun. Mario Kart 8 doesnt seem to have in game options so I cant work out how to change the split screen or get the minimap on the screen. Maybe it cant be done. But these things are small annoyances, the games are quite fun and serving their intended purpose. I havent played Zelda yet and I am thinking about buying Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze. It's pretty clear its made for casual games, the controls would be more awkward in serious games

My old Sony headphones died (R.I.P) due to my own incompetence. Now this thing arrived earlier today. I'm no audiophile but it's been pretty great so far. Significant upgrade in certain ranges and comfort, but a little less flexible and bass.

lol @ 'casual games'

watch the SSB crowd rage

the 1st party games are good, the only problem with WiiU atm is the lack of 3rd party games, but hey Bayonetta 2 exclusive!

looking forward to the WiiU Zelda, Hyrule Warriors, and most likely coming Metroid

it's super smash bros (n64), super smash bros melee (gamecube), super smash bros brawl (wii), and then super smash bros (3ds/wiiU)

I would say it is mostly a casual platform. My biggest problem with quite a few titles, the Zelda ones in particular, isn't that they have a "childish cartoony art style", but the fact that they're very easy and offer no challenge whatsoever.

SSB is mostly a casual game too, it however gave people the options that could be adjusted to make the game competitive. I kind of wish Nintendo would take the notes, that a game can be both have depth and still appeal to a casual audience.

Just look at it. Brawl came in. Wavedashing was a bug and you could say that removing it was okay. But they slowed the game all the way down and ANYONE would've preferred SSB over Brawl, especially since the games were otherwise so similar anyway.

MK8? They just had to include that blue shell. Afaik the game doesn't have the item options that SSB does.

Sure it's been there around forever but at least in Double Dash it was rationalized somehow.

Agressive randomizing is used in casual games across the board even in FPS games (TF2 random crits, CoD delivery packages) to make the "casual players" feel better about themselves but there's a difference between creating a slot machine game with a little bit of gameplay and game with some randomness that ask player the awareness to quickly adapt the situation.

Even the biggest competitive scene ever existed, which was in SC:BW, was born through community effort. Blizzard couldn't made maps worth a crap until the community started making maps where you could block off the ramps with buildings.

That said, enjoyed xenoblade, was hoping they'd revamp the battle system a bit more for the gamepad (no more QTE B's) and you could have better party controls etc., but it's still probably a solid game. Bayonetta 2, tool. And I would, still, buy MK8 and probably W101.

Could buy the system for sub 200€ right now but it's only the basic and w/o games. Well, later on then.

Third parties have no reason to exist on the Wii U right now and nobody can really blame them. It's Nintendo's job to do the heavy lifting, and they did far less while demanding more when compared to the competitors.

360 pad is a rather safe choice. Receiver off ebay if you don't have one.

Have 360 Pad, can confirm.
As most likely you're using Windows, plug-and-play and driver support is best. Anything else requires varying amount of additional work.

- BenQ GL 2250 monitor, because my previous one was VGA-only
- Arctic F9 PWM fan, because my previous rear fan failed
- CM Storm M mouse pad, because I needed a bigger one for gaming after switching to lower sensitivity

Panasonic TH-42AS600 42 inch IPS-LED TV, apparently a new model from Panasonic. I blew roughly 740 USD on this TV. It's far above my expectation. Vivid clear picture and smart TV function. I couldn't ask for more.

Even with new TV my room doesn't get any better looking though.

I managed to snap the cable of my Plantronics Gamecom 780s so I ordered a replacement last night from Amazon. Same model because aside from my own stupidity they're a damn good pair of headphones.

Bought Siberia V2. Why it's so tight? I don't like it wrapping so hard around my ears. The sound is fine tho.

All headphones loosen up after while so it should get better. Plus ~150g doesn't seem that heavy (compared to beyers i use and they weigh 270g so almost a double)

Went on a spending spree and bought the Surface Pro 3 i3/64GB version. I've been playing around with it for the last two days and its quite a spectacular machine. I've also never used Windows 8 before, and I feel that the learning curve is rather exaggerated.

I didn't buy the Type Cover though. It costs the same as a Filco Majestouch so i went with that instead.

Bought Gioteck EX-05s wireless headset. Here's hoping the armband won't break just like what happened to Corsair Vengeance 2000.

The armband seems tough which is what I really need. The way the headset fits itself seems like the "stress" is distributed evenly throughout its whole body (though I can't judge). the leatherette earcups is a culture shock for me but aside that its great. My only regret is that there's no device drivers for it in win7 yet. The headset is marketed for PS3 and Xbox360 and PC. tbh its a great all-in-one bargain wireless headset.

edit: here's what it looks like

It's been pretty great actually. and that's keeping in mind there's no device drivers for them yet.

the receiver can also go to analog mode (the 3.5mm jack) but yeah that would just make them analog wireless headset with a surround sound button.

And to complete my set, I need to ask anyone here about a great wireless mouse that will last long enough.

I'm currently using logitech M505. it easily fits to the hand but after 1.5 years that mouse had failed its left click. it fails to drag-click, it sometimes double clicks, and sometimes the click isn't clicking. SOOO yeah I need a replacement.

G700 seems bad as well. http://forums.logitech.com/t5/G-seri...en/td-p/484528

that said I already have 2 AA rechargeable batteries. If you could point me to a cheaper wireless mouse that uses the same battery + fits to the hand + durable, then please.

very cheap and it has a mouse pad included. I easily "understood" its grip (or maybe small mouse is my thing and I never knew?). my only qualm is that my ring finger hits the dpi switch and I really need to fix this bad habit.
