Thumbs up [Item] Torch


Torch:150g

Allows you to see just as far at night as you would during the day but also gives away your position to nearby enemies. Gives limited true sight. When you die while the torch is lit you will still gain vision of the area for the remainder of the duration. Has 3 charges that last 1 min per charge.

Additional info:
Your enemy will see you if you come within 900 range of them at night.
Gives 250 aoe true sight.

Well, it's original as far as i know. But, it's purpose is rather limited by the nature of the item. I don't see myself spending 150g for extra LoS at night, or the true sight component either. Also I believe that the true sight is too similar to dust.

I think the vision range must be 3/4 day vision or 3/2 night vision.

This would be a great defensive item. Ganks are great at night because you can sneak up on lanes much better, especially mid lane. If you were carrying a Torch and soloing mid, you'd be much more difficult to gank.

Exactly my thoughts. Plus the limited true sight will give you at least a heads up on invisible units sneaking up on you. Mind you day vision is 1900 and night vision is 900. The extra 1000 sight range is a lot of area covered.

Theres really no point in using a torch to light your way during day time. But I'm I'm thinking of adding a 250 aoe unobstructed sight as well. But the self reveal would defeat it's usefulness during the day. Which is why this item is only useful at night.

Well using this on Balanar with his stats is just absurd. Any other hero would benefit from this item.

Actually, the current item would be bad on Night Stalker because it gives you your daytime vision range during the night. This is worse for him.

What if you made the torch, like you said, bonus vision at night, but only 250 AOE true vision at day. That would give invis units 50% of the game to still be assured they are invisible.

The reason I think that it shouldn't have 3 charges, is it will make this item a waste of money, because after 3 uses (let's say - a time span of 15 minutes) - it's useless, whereas let's say, you put that money towards a Gem (a time span of the entire game), it could be a lot more useful.

-OR-

Maybe if you had 1 charge that lasted 10 seconds, that 'relit' (refills) at the fountain in base. It would cost, let's say, 400g. I think with a single refillable invis AOE of, of ~600, that lasts for 10 seconds, and the bonus night vision as you said of +1000 (800 + 1000 = 1800), this could be the next new item in DotA.

The reasons why I say this is that Gem's are rarely bought against invis heros (or are constantly destroyed), dust is never used properly, wards are too costly, and then, invis units are more imba as the experience of the user goes up. (i.e.: I'm permanently banned from invis units)

because waste of gold (or with either of these implements )

You're missing the point here, it's not about the true sight, hows 250 aoe true sight going to help you on a riki who just used blink strike on you. The use of this item is to make your vision at night equal to daytime vision and gives 250 aoe unobstructed vision/true sight at any time during its duration.

I like the idea. There are a handful of heros that have better night than normal. I think this item should add a certain amount of vision instead of setting to a specific amount of vision.

Maybe this could lead to lowering normal night vision a little bit more to enhance the night/day aspect of wc3. And maybe add new types of items for night/day.

I like the concept of the Torch, but the question is, it is useful enough? I mean Enchantress for example, she has got the same vision during night like at daytime. Does she have an advantage over other heroes when it comes to ganks at night? In my mind, if enemies come at night, ganking her properly, she is dead anyway. Her extra sight does not help her much since most ganks are being done by sneaking up through a forest or something like this, and then, they are in her normal sight range anyway.

I must admit, the gold cost is very low, too, so this should be balanced, but over all, I think this item is not worth to be implemented.
But okay, that's just my opinion, if others like it, go for it...
