Default [COSMETIC] AoE indicators (now with testmap v2)

Have you ever played some heroes such as Earthshaker and fail to land the perfect Echoslam because the enemy is slightly out of range?

Have you ever played Templar Assasin you just walk out of Shadowmeld because an enemy hero is just out of your max range?

here's the solution: AOE indicator.

A simple solution to a few of Dota's AOE spell problem..
yes, a simple AOE ring.

During -test mode, when a command such as -aoe 500, is typed, a 500 AOE ring is displayed on the controled hero.

A simple command such as -aoe XXXX (XXXX being in the range of 50-1500). Probably the largest AoE used is 1400 for blink dagger, and anything more wont be really effective.

This is only visible only to the player that typed the command, and not to anyone else. And to prevent abuse, only 1 AoE ring can be displayed.

And if possible, add a command to remove the AoE indicator if the player do not like it, they can remove it such as -aoeoff.

To map testers: the ring is not made by a single brillance aura. This will cause problems when the AoE is too large. It is achieved by adding 40 dummy units and making them circle around a target hero. The dummy unit used are "Preset/Abilities/Devour Magic <Missile>, Devour Magic".

Update for testmap version 2: reduced lag, added a new animation which shows better AoE when moving.

[+] Fix AoE "1-click-spells" such as Shadowmeld, Echoslam, or Reverse Polarity for not landing at the desired area.
[+] Maximize a ranged spell such as Fissure and Kelen's blink.
[+] Versatile indicator for ranged heroes.
[+] Allows better training at single player or -test mode.
[+] Only visual, no change to spells.

testmap: as promised, the testmap below.

Big T-up.
@Boris: TBH it's fair, you can't call such stuff 'cheating' so that they deserve to be only in test mode, it's more of a boost to gameplay. Like the pylon matrix in starcraft 2 can be displayed on the screen.

Making something TOO noob friendly may backfire. Perhaps make this thing last for a very short time. Dunno, null for now.

i want to it to be in the real game, not only in the test mode.. it's really irritating when heroes like Lanaya walk out of invis, gets nothing, and all she gets is PAWNED!! hard!

I've seen variations on this proposed but you whipped it up into a delicious -AOE command. A person can read their tooltip like Mirana's 200 aoe starfall and plug it in with this command. Very versatile. I am impressed!!

BIG T-Up. Great idea.

@iKrivetko, giving the command a limited time is trivial. It's either on or off. Stop sitting on the fence and DECIDE.

Meh.
It's more for "lol I am so noob I have to add a command to see if I hit the enemy or not :(((((((((((((" people.
Even though right now you can't always be sure, you'll still know whether most enemies are in range or not since they are rarely at a point that is close to being out of range.
So this is only for very few cases... and next thing you want is -doesthisspellkillhimornot, right?

Maybe as a short, temporary command that shows the AoE for like a second or even less, so you can't use it as a permanent line-of-hitting.

I simply love this idea. Here are some suggestions:

-AoE X (X = number from 50 to 2500) -> A circle appears around the hero, with an AoE equal to the written number.
-Range X (X = number from 50 to 2500) -> A straight line appears in front of the hero, with a distance equal to the written number.

That way we have all the possibly measurable distances covered.

If people are worried about abusability, we could make this a channeling skill, meaning that any order issued will cancel the animation. Or perhaps simply make it a singleplayer-only command.

I've seen this suggested for Lanaya before. I like how your suggestion is an option, for all players, and scalable. It could be used for more than just AoE spells, like attack range or leap range. I don't think it'll make dota noobish, because noobs probably wont use it as effectively as a more advanced player.

BIG t-up. I wan't this!

I was testing out this suggestion in a quick map i made. No aura that is already in wc3 works well when it gets to around 5x it's size. That's only 500 AOE. This means icefrog would have to find/create/import a custom model that doesn't get messed up as it gets bigger, and some type of aura that is very readable. The exact size of auras when they get big are less clear than when they were small.

This is a 500AOE Brilliance Aura Caster

It should be in -test mode only..IMO.. it's noob-friendly, estimating AoE and Range in playing DotA is interesting and requires practices and skills ^_^
