Default The Asian vs European Thread

So, the biggest DotA tournament ever is under way, and right now Europeans are in deep sh!t with MYM having lost very embarassingly in group stages.

Rant:
Asians are dominating.
Take a look at the sheer number of Singaporean, Malaysian, Chinese and Vietnamese teams winning matches. Alright, to be fair, there are more Asian teams than European teams, but when it comes down to a match between Asians and Europeans, Asians have a higher win rate atm.

Granted there are various European teams that were not able to make it for the event, but the results of SMM atm strongly indicate Asians' superiority at DotA.

EDIT: Top 16 of SMM atm
Malaysia Cybertime vs Malaysia Little
Singapore AEON.DotA vs China CommeDieu
Malaysia INC'Excello vs Malaysia Cybertime.Fishnet
Singapore XTC vs Philippines Mineski.ph
Malaysia FTD vs Vietnam StarsBoba
Malaysia Kingsurf vs Malaysia FTZ
Australia MCiTY vs China EHOME
China CityHunter vs Canada PokerIdol

Good luck Poker ):

EDIT: This topic is really old and the above is old news already. Asians ended up winning that specific tourney but oh well, Puppey is my favourite player still (:

Sigh.

Let's run the next tournament on European soil, with 90% of the teams European.

Something tells me the story would be different then.

Actually, let me rephrase it a bit more directly.

Comparing Euro and Asian DotA based on a tournament taking place in Asia and featuring ONE European team???.... Is retarded.

Alright, take a ride back in history. Remember ESWC? I wonder who won that. (Singapore did by the way) And that was back when SK and MYM were in their prime :x

EDIT: Yeah Europe would probably include America, Australia and Russia as well even though they're not geographically European. So I guess non-Asian would be a better way to phrase it.

Concrete evidence that NA > Europeans please. Would like to see this one being argued, since the Asians>Non-Asians one has just ended.

well because they've got further in the tournament correct?

oh no, hold on a sec, if MYM faced the same teams PI faced they would've advanced easily right?! Then you wouldn't even be discussing this right now!

but, who cares about north americans. they advance but still Asians>Non-Asians has ended. If MYM advanced and PI got cut, it would still be going.

your logic is flawed.

I don't quite understand your reasoning but anyway you still haven't provided evidence that NA > Europeans so that point remains in contention. Don't quite get the whining about MYM not facing the teams PI faced since MYM lost to relative unknowns as well. (Inc Excello and FTZ)

If MYM advanced, and PI didn't, there would be no Asia>non asia yet.

If things happened like they did, where PI advances and MYM gets cut, the masses are going to jump right to conclusion, as shown.

I'm not whining, that was just to show a different reality that may have happened.

You see, here's the thing. You think Europeans are < than asians because they lost to them.

Well, MCiTY and PI beat them, so wouldn't that make them better than Europes like indirectly? Of course not, but if we're using the same logic as you, it would.

Also they lost to a team ranked higher than Cybertime in Malaysia so calling them unkown is a disgraceful remark.

EDIT: that's just my logic, and I hope MCiTY and PI keep playing well as I am a westerner, they played really solid in the group stages!

In my opinion, Asian and European DotA are just tow "different kinds" of DotA. And dont forget: In Europe, DotA is more a hobby, while some people in Asia see it almost as their profession .

@ SMM: I think it would have gone better with Maelk. He rarely got outpicked, while Kuroky has been outpicked - or has not picked as good as Maelk - more often than him.

Really bad picks by MYM against FTZ. Certainly, not surprised at all that they lost. Oh well, lets talk about this after the tournament is over .

Being from America, I don't really pick sides in this debate, but I gotta say it is annoying when one incident incites threads like this. Jesus christ annoying as hell.

When MYM goes godlike in the competitive scene asians shut up euros gloat, roles reverse when otherwise. Annoying as fuck. I mean at the very least, can't this thread wait for more than one slip up of euro's top team before the gloating begins? Or are you that starved of attention? (I don't blame you for that, euro gets all the fame and is in general overrated)

just btw wat happened when zenith went to ASUS ?

but its true, the top asian teams take DotA much more seriously and are stronger than the euro teams imo.

Zenith lost in ASUS in Russia to Say Please and to SK in Dreamhack. They were supposed to be one of Asia's top teams and was definitely the most popular one internationally.

according to the interviews on mymym and gg.net:

I think that some of the asian top teams are pretty cocky/insulting/biased, or at least their headplayers... dota is not the WWF or something...

i don't know how any of you could doubt that the asian scene is better, but i would argue a lot of it has to do with how shitty Kuroky was at picking today
