Default Is the dota 2 economy getting stupid ?

Well, as the title says, is it ? People are giving 1 key for 7/8 rares, when rares are hard to get. If you buy an uncommon on the shop it costs 1€/1$ or something, and rare costs something like 2€ or something. So what the hell is wrong with this economy ?

The shop price does not reflect an item's value most of the time.

1. Where there is demand, there will be supply.
2. Some people are impatient, so they might sacrifice everything to get just one key.
3. Some people have imperfect knowledge about the Dota 2 buy-and-sell system (they don't know how much a key costs and a rare item costs).
4. Some key sellers are greedy.

Yeah, but it's just pure stupidity. A month ago 2/3 rares was a key, now they want the double. I have 400 hours, almost 500 hours of dota 2 and i don't have more than 20 or so rares therefore i get nothing.

'Consumer surplus or consumers' surplus is the monetary gain obtained by consumers because they are able to purchase a product for a price that is less than the highest price that they would be willing to pay.'

I think it's because of the inflationary.

It's the other way around, the faster they get out of the closed state, the faster they have more players, thus more money in hats
And if they just listen to the community and release one unpolished and unfinished hero per week, they would be making even more money

I have like a million keys, where should I go to get some decent items? (Only thing I really want is a custom courier or two tbh)

Also for each new hero to come, you could change the stomach of gilrls heroes and says the new hero will be her baby. For example, Lina model becomes pregnant and then a new hero is released, and she comes back to normal.

TF2 has the same "problem" and I think that's how it started in dota 2. For example, a key costs about 4 ref. If you only collect drops and turn them into metal it would take you a month to get one key (assuming you got the max number of drops per week). Even under best conditions, you're looking at something like 40 hours of game time to get a $2.50 item.

Trading tends to not take store prices into account, favoring rarity. If you want a key just buy it from the store. Keys will always have higher item value than cash value worth; F2P games tend to value cash shop items way higher than most in-game items.

That bold line is the main reason. Even more so with all the new item sets that dropped a few weeks back. People throwing 1 Rare + stuff for one freaking common. They are the cause of why people sell high.

Now 3 weeks have passed, and using only the excess commons I have accumulated, I got about 20+ new commons. I got all of them using only 1:1 common trade. The first few weeks of trading was horrible, as you get idiots posting in your trade saying "HAHAHA THIS COMMON MEEPO ITEM IS WORTH AT LEAST 3 RARES! STOP TRYING TO SCAM PEOPLE!!! XAXAXA~"

People will not be able to sell high if people don't overpay their stuff. Sadly, this is DotA community, and getting people to cooperate is impossible. So the only thing to do is to be patient and wait it out.

By the way, if you want to know why treasure keys got shoot up by so much, it is simply because of this chest:
http://www.cyborgmatt.com/2013/03/do...re-of-rarities

You can open this chest by any normal treasure keys from the description. And the worst items you can get from this chest are the Grand Blade and Cape of Dark Magic. The Cape is highly sought after, while the Grand Blade is still at least a rare. The other items in this chest have just freaking high demand.

For some (many) the potential value of a key will always be worth more than whatever they have in their inventory. You aren't unlocking any treasure chests with a set of bracers for Jug or a new bow for WR and the possibility of unboxing an unusual courier or a strange weapon or whatever is too enticing. They may trade away dozens of rares (which are increasingly less valuable since there is an unlimited number of drops) before they unbox something truly special, but that truly special thing will likely be worth more than all those rares combined.

In other words, some people just like to gamble.

Of course, other people just don't know what things are worth, so...

Does it matter, though? Most of the cosmetics are hardly noticeable. I can think of only a handful of cosmetics that I would actively try to acquire, most of which are custom wards or things like Reaver, S&Y, and other item cosmetics.

The older items are worth fractions what they're worth in keys.

For instance, 8 dollar couriers from when the shop first opened, are worth only 1 key, which is worth 2 dollars on the steam market.

Jews will be jews, that is all.

I've stopped dealing with these kind of people since I learned of Dota2Lounge, D2L makes it easier to post a lot of offers to a lot of different people (most of them being the undesirable kind, but eventually you get fair traders), eventually getting a trade that is fair for both sides.
