i did have the same idea of a 2nd map at first with same hero, skills items etc that will run at the same time as the 1st one(not change maps, keep both) but this will require more than 1 Icefrogs :P
Its cool if it can happen tho |

As is said,
the investment of time is very low compared to the result, as the main source of exhausting work lies in hero and item (maybe design changes aswell) balances. I think that this doesnt require too much time, nothing which cant be done by somebody who knows how to work the editing and has been directly involved in the development of Dota |

Well actually, back in the old version of Reign of Chaos, they did release a map that was a solid 1 lane that was fed by all 3 creep spawns at once. It was a wide open playing field that was actually quite fun. It was called Dota Rumble 3.3. You can find it on google if you'd like. However no one really plays the old RoC versions anymore so i actually wouldnt mind mixing it up every now and then with 6.6x versions.
But some will just say we already have modes that kinda do what your asking. -om stands for -only mid, which means only the mid lane creeps spawn and the bottom and top lane towers are invulnerable and dont spawn creeps. theres not really a point of having a 3 lane map made since dota is already a 3 lane map. a 5 lane map would be quite intense. all solo and lots of gank action lol. I might be for it. it would definetly take tp'ing and pushing to the next level. |

Im on to it
![]() well there are things u say that are right, i know the different modes and i know their effect... the thing is, that you even change a lot by adding 2 more hills in each lane... The terrain is a very important aspect for the gameplay.. As an example, imagin a map which just has mazes of trees and is completly in the forest or maps which are very complicated with cliffs etc etc i dont want to come up with very cheap and stupid ideas , but when you come to think of it, there are lots of opportunities... still main argument: dotas place in the ranking of pro-gaming games... |

None of the maps i see there are a serious attempt of increasing gameplay varation...
Everything i see are not long lasting fun modes... Thank you for the information though |

I experimented a bit with some systems to easily maintain a system like this ages ago, and I think it should be possible to move the required data within short time, so maintaining is simple and easy.

I completely new map should be the idea, like with no river, add large hell pit in the middle, 2 boses maybe, lanes that crosses each at a few points, stone pillars and burn trees to make a bit mazes, different paths, few dead ends with runes or some other award and stuff like that

@Infrisios: Thank you...
finally somebody who knows what i mean ![]() cant be that difficult and in the opportunities of new possibilties we both agree i suppose... @Hellraiser: As you see, it is easy to develop something which would change a lot and be more interesting... My real hope is, that you have about 10-15 maps, of which, in a clan war, each clan chooses a map which it desires to play... Of course as said in the first post, start with one map to await reactions |

I like this idea very much. Different terrains means different possibilities.
Some more terrain in a map could make a thing like scepter on balanar useful, and less terain could make this less useful, and make it harder to gank, or farm without being seen, so you have to vary your gameplay, according to the map you are playing. |

This would indeed be a worthy project for Icefrog to undertake. This has popped up before but there was too much rage. I hope this does not go down the same path.
Support. I'd like to see Icefrog's response to this.

The only problem is the balance imo. Creating a new terrain is not too hard.
I'd think this would be very cool, but we have to keep the same size and 3 lanes. Otherwise, it is to imbalanced. In CS for example, it is no problem how the map looks like, cause everybody has the same charakter he plays with the same stats. In DotA, heroes have alot of different roles. If you dramatically change map size or add/remove lanes, the balance gets lost, and the playable hero pool especially in competitive gaming becomes even smaller. I'd like to have a easy modifieable template for DotA (where you can only terrain due to protection, so that everybody can make new DotA terrain. Cause of the number of new terrains coming up then, there will surely be some really good ones which are quite balanced and could then be added to a dotamappool in leagues if the players accept it. Of course the developer of the different terrains always have to update their map to the latest version, but at least, I think we will really get some very nice terrains. |

Hmmm maybe you could try having some seriously high cliffs (3 levels/floors, 1 cliff) in the new map isntead of having gentle slopes in the current dota. Merging lanes might be pretty cool to watch.

There was an old April Fools Day joke map with 5 lanes (to remove the arguments about who goes solo
). I want something like that xD

I agree with you that balancing would be quite hard( e.g.: more creeps for Earthshakers ult available) but i dont demm it impossible. If a Hero is serioulsy affected by this, it wouldnt harm to nerfe/buff specific skills...(e.g. less dmg per creep on es ult) Those balance problems would be rather a few and easy to fix... |

i had this idea before.. but mine was a 3 laned normal map same items heroes etc.. just tree placements, neutrals secret shops were moved around and different and instead of having the -terrain snow commands etc the different maps would be snow, moonlight etc .. hope that made sense
..
