it seems pretty usefull, restoring your own mana while draining your opponents, but im not sure if i like the stats or the separate parts of the recipe. As it is now, only int heroes can buy this and even to them it seems rather useless bonus of adding mana to yourself rather than your ally with arcane ring, altough arcane ring doesn't burn mana, it has a powerfull restore effect. If you want manaburn you buy necronomicon.
What i instead think this should do, is some kind if mana waste AoE spell. Like when your opponent casts a spell after being attacked by sages staff he instead looses twice the mana cast and nothing happens? Finally i can't see this item being used on any hero, maybe a pit lord? Other casting items gives, hp, damage, defense or attack speed modifications, this item only gives mana and that we already have 2-3 items for that, hex, shivas and orchids. |

The idea of Drain is good, but.. compared to Lion's Mana Drain this is overpowered.

This item is a great idea, but I think noone will use it as it is now. So much gold needed for it and you just drain some mana.
Lion drains 100 mana per second and has a cooldown of 10 seconds. This is much better than the staff right now. |

I mean, the suggestion template is sweet and awesome and cool everythning and icon is even more everythnig just it's worthless. I wouldn't buy this on any hero.. unless I played againast 5 axes and has a support hero. This item won't be used.

I think this item is not so useful. Well, if I have afforded to buy a Mystic Staff, I'd rather go for Sheep Stick than an Item that drains mana of an enemy.
Maybe changing it's components and make it's price cheaper will make it more better. Although I could not see any point why this item should be implemented in DotA. Sorry, that is my opinion... |

2. Because this game is broken anyway. 3. Because ghost staff sucks too but it 'exists'.

Mana version of "Heart" ^^
[1] 4200 is too much for an item just for int and mana [2] I'm pretty sure it's not the item we need and could get early on [3] at Late game, int is just not worthy anymore [4] Skill is that of much needed, but Mana drain is not a wise skill to be added, it's almost useless TBH

Consider using mana drain like Razor's static link. As long as you are within a certain distance from a unit then you will continue draining mana. Try to give it what spellcasters (I am assuming spell casters will use this item primarily) will need or give it abilities that will synergize with it. It can be +10 movespeed (to stay in touch with link) or +5 armor (all int heroes have shitty armor) + hp/ mp (point booster is usually bought on support heroes/some int heroes).

QS is a little odd, geared more towards DPS?
Obinn's idea is good, you may also consider escalating AoE Mana Drain as a passive. Example; On entering the 500 AoE, enemy units (Heroes inc.) are buffed with "xxxxxxx". In the first second they lose 5% mana, which is given to the weilder. Every second passed within the 500 AoE will increase the drain by 1%, capping at 10%. Obviously, leaving the 500 AoE severs the drain. You like?

This item is underpowered, especially for its cost. You need to buff that mana drain. Make it take a whole AOE, and/or take by % maybe. Right now, I can't think of many heroes that would gain from this when most late game Int heroes (I'm guessing you would use this on an Int most likely) already have major mana regen and don't need more. I like the concept, but honestly I don't think we need an item like this; at least at this current state. How about making it similar to a Mana Break+Mana Drain kind of spell; dealing damage with the Mana Drain, just not getting that damage back in HP (e.g. - You use Mana Drain on enemy hero; it damages half of __% of target's max Mana pool in damage, and you still drain the full __%). It could work late game, and might be a pretty good item like this, but I just came up with it now, I can't give real numbers. Who knows, maybe it could deal just a certain # but be able to upgrade like a Dagon (but I think it'd make it too similar). Just something to think about, the other posts above had some good ideas as well.
Gotta keep trekking along, making it better and better

Come on, you gotta give more insight and your own suggestions/feedback on the IDEAS, your 2-3 sentence post on the stuff that isn't the core of what I'm saying isn't really helping this thread =/. This is YOUR item suggestion, so you have to help improve it, or at least defend more on why it's good the way it is. |

Why not drain mana based on the intelligence of the hero who's carrying it?
