Default [ANIMATION] Reality Rift

Introduction

Reality Rift was once Blink Strike, which was a skill that moved the Chaos Knight to its target. It used to be that when the skill was cast, a reddish-yellow effect appears and covers him as he raises his mace. Then, another reddish-yellow effect appears on him the very moment he arrives at his location.

Now, although Reality Rift teleports the Chaos Knight, the enemy and his illusions, the animation STILL only plays on the Chaos Knight. This fix-cum-suggestion seeks to fix that.

The Fix

It's really simple, really, just play the same red effect on all targets, instead of just on the Chaos Knight. Then, instead of playing a bunch of small red portals at the area they all cluster in, play a bigger version of the red effect (x1.75 scale) at the clustering point.





Misc. Pointers
  • The path for the effect model is Abilities\Spells\Demon\DarkConversion\ZombifyTarge t.mdl.
  • The current effect has a triggered sound (Abilities\\Spells\\NightElf\\Blink\\BlinkArrival1. wav at 1.6 pitch) play whenever the effect plays. This should carry over to all the effects that are present on the field now.
  • In my test map, the Chaos Knight's portal effect takes place on cast, while all the other targets have their own portal effects take place on spell effect. The timing for the portal of other units can be done either way, but I've put their effects on cast mostly because its easier to code.

There is a testmap here if you want to check it out in live action. The whole animation looks better and less cluttered than the graphics show.

I agree with the concept. The colour needs some improvement though. Orange doesn't seem to fit him and the visual is too big.

Really nice suggestion, but is it codeable to make the illusions of nessaj raise the mace(cast animation) at the same time with nessaj?
It will surely add some sync flavour to the skill

While It's probably codeable (see Phantom Lancer), I think it's quite unnecessary and out of theme. CK does not rely on trickery and subterfuge like PL does, so the chenge is out of flavour on him. Furthermore, since CK is the one casting the spell (not each separate illusion!), it would be weird for the illusions to have a spell-casting animation.

EDIT: the test map seems to be broken, my WC3 can't even recognise it. I've tried various older patches, to no avail.

It works fine on my side. I'm using Warcraft III version 1.24.2.6378.

Patching back to 1.24c and moving the map file around eventually got it to work. While I like the concept, the animation itself is pretty unappealing IMO. I don't like the bleak whitish colour.

t-up on the idea...

but i think it will make Phantasm a bit overpowered/imba...
since the images will appear right next to the target together w/ the real one, the immediate extra hits from the images dealing 100% damage is huge...

This is no different from how the skill works in the game. This visual suggestion has no intention of changing how the skill works mechanically.
