Default [VISUAL] Handful of Cosmetic Fixes and Touch-ups


Introduction

This is a topic that seeks to bring attention to several visual errors or misfits that can be very easily and simply fixed. Alright, not much to say here. On to the specific stuff:

1) Axe: Culling Blade

The skill's animation is timed wrongly! The skill deals damage when the Axe swings his weapon upwards, not when his weapon descends upon the head of the target!


Culling Bad

Fix: Increase Axe's animation speed to 180% when Culling Blade is activated for 0.3 second to syncronise the damage with the blade landing.

2) Moon Rider: Lucent Beam

There are two problems with the Lucent Beam animation:
  • Doesn't show at all on an image if the skill does the killing blow (i.e. image goes poof, but no beam comes down).
  • When multiple Lucent Beams hit a single unit, it is not apparent (the beams "stack" together).
Fix: The effect played is currently attached to a unit's "origin". Instead of such, play the effect at the unit's location.

3) Demon Witch: Impale

When the spell is cast, Lion's spell animation is cut off the moment the spikes come out, even if the spell isn't cancelled. This gives him a very weird jerk whenever he casts the spell.

Fix: Increase the base spell's Follow Through Time from 0.3 to 0.8 so that the spell will show the rest of his spell animation. This will not affect the spell's casting delay, and the additional animation can be cancelled.

4) Goblin Techies: All Spells

He explodes whenever he casts a spell (???) .

Fix: He should just have a "stand" animation for all his spells, except Suicide, of course.

5) Bat Rider: Flaming Lasso

He explodes whenever he casts it (???) .

Fix: Just use his attack animation.

6) Lord of Olympia: Lightning Bolt

Taken from here. A (big) improvement to his cast animation.


Oooh, shiny!

Fix: Use his "attack slam" animation.

Except for Bat Rider's Flaming Lasso and all of the Techie's animations, the rest of them can be seen in this testmap here.

T-Up to all, especially Axe, I always found that looks damned funny. I'm not a fan of that big flowery flash either, should be something more gorey and bladey if you ask me.

Woah, my lightning bolt suggestion. Haven't seen that in awhile =o

Anyways, I keep forgetting to mention this, but for Tiny's avalanche, his spell animation in the editor is set to "spell" if I recall correctly. It's just that his cast backswing is set to zero and it won't show. (I'll have to double-check a few things just to make sure.) Also, the lucent beam not appearing on a killing blow is really irritating. I think other spells share this problem. If I have time I'll try to list out other visually wrong animations as well.

Edit - Checked, Tiny's cast values won't let him show his animations. Just wanted to mention that in your solutions to fix it. It seems Invoker also suffers the same problem =s

He means, if you Lucent Beam an Illusion and kill it, the Illusion disappears and the Lucent Beam's graphic will not be shown, so it looks like Luna killed the Illusion with nothing.

I like all of those changes, but I honestly love the way Batrider explodes while releasing his Lasso, which fits 'the ends justify the means!'

Unless Tiny's spells are based off Channel, the animations will still show regardless of whether his spells have a cast point or backswing value. Even if it's based off Channel, giving his spells a Follow Through Time will allow the animation to show. In World Editor, only Channel stops/prevents animations from showing (when an insufficient value of Follow Through Time is given). You can not only see this in Lion's Impale, but also Sniper's Shrapnel and all of Kunkka's spells. Their animations are all cancelled prematurely because their follow through time for their spells are too short. Tiny has 0 follow through time for all his spells, so his animation is cancelled instantly when it comes out.
