Default [ANIMATION] Poison Touch


Introduction

Poison Touch is a spell with pretty complex workings. When you cast it:
  • You get a ministun from the missile it fires.
  • You become slowed for 1/2/3/3 seconds (the slow happens instantly when the spell starts, not after the missile hits).
  • After the slow wears off, you receive 8/16/24/32 damage per second for 7 seconds.

It's visual representation, however, is very bland. This is all you see--a green missile flying towards a target and a green smudge on the target. You don't see any effects during the slow, and you don't see any effect when the slow ends and the poison starts to damage you.


Being True to the Word

The skill's tooltip describes Poison Touch as being such: infecting an enemy with a slow acting poison that takes time to set in. This is the focus that I'm going to depict with my suggested visual.

1) Affliction - When spell is cast



Change the spell's current missile speed to 10000 so we don't see a missile. All we see is the green effect (from the current projectile) shown above on the target, which is more fitting for as a cast animation for the target. Also use the Shadow Priest's "attack" animation as the spell animation.

Having a missile gives visual synchronisation issues--the spell obviously takes effect before the missile hit. Not to mention that the projectile doesn't really fit the skill. Using the attack animation is better because it depicts the "touch" better than his arms-wide spell animation.

The ministun the skill gives should also be shown, though that's really up to IceFrog.

2) Debiliation - The onset of the poison

The target moves slower with each passing second the moment it is affected by the spell. There will be no visuals at all on the target at that time, so the only cue of the poison setting in is the target moving slower and slower.

Once the slow ends and the damage starts coming in, we see this on the target:



It's basically a poisonous explosion, depicting how the poison has "set in". It's the death animation of Abilities\\Spells\\Other\\AcidBomb\\BottleMissile. mdl attached to the target's chest.

3) Poison - Receiving damage

Basically, the poison damage is dealt every second. As it is being dealt, play the generic poison effect (Abilities\\Spells\\Items\\OrbVenom\\OrbVenomSpecia lArt.mdl) on the chest of the target everytime the trigger timer ticks once to damage the target.

That's pretty much it. It (the suggestion) is pretty wordy, but I had to describe how it works in the context of the spell. Check out the testmap here to get a clearer idea of the whole thing.

T-UP on 2&3.
I prefer the spell missile as it is now, because it is much easier for your teamm8s to see that you casted poison touch on an enemy. (This is a pubber's pov, though).

EDIT:I just downloaded the test map v1.09b with all the visuals, but my game doesn't "see" it.It doesn't show up on the choose map menu.Any thoughts?
