Default [STR-SENT] Mandevar, Titan of Order

Titan of Order
Mandevar

Description: If you guys do not know Mandevar is one of the oldest Hero in DotA. And here is my attempt to recreate him. I played around with his title "Titan of Order" he might look similar to Final Fantasy's Judges too. He works really well in team fights and is a natural tank. He also has 2 disables in his arsenal although they are both unreliable.

Background Story: Used by the Sentinel on the old war, Mandevar is once again called upon to aid the Sentinel to victory. Enforcing law and order in the lands Mandevar is the prosecutor, judge and executioner making his presence feared by everyone. His massive size lets him sweep his enemies and move thru the battlefield easily. His words are the law and no one seems to be able to do crimes unpunished. He is Mandevar the Titan of Order.

Some review:
Skill 1: damage is quite sad for mana cost...

Skill 2: Hmm... Proclaim seems counter-synergistic. o.O

If they cant do one of the above... Its lesser chance to do inflict debuff. Anyway, at the current arrangement, lvl2 is better than lvl 4..o.O I suggest to implement a change to :

Level 1: Can't use items
Level 2: Can't use items/cast Spells
Level 3: Can't use items/cast spells/attack
Level 4: Can't use items/cast spells/attack/move

This way, it also corresponds to various "games"

Very early game: Prevents Healing from tango
Early game: Prevents harassment
mid game: Prevents Harass/some elements of gank
late game: chase

SKill 3: Interesting Passive, ensures that he packs a wallop when he initiates gank xD

Ulti: 2 parter, part 1 Hurts, part 2 is interesting. Nothing much to say though...

P.S. Check out my hero! =D

About the hero: STR gain IMO should be greater than AGI gain.

First skill is like a cleaving nuke. Second is basically an AoE stun. Gears of the Titan is a good synergetic passive.

Ultimate is a pretty awesome skill; unique and effective. This hero really becomes a good AoE and anti-aoe due to this skill. I suggest morphing the other skills to fit around his ultimate's theme.

About the template... spell names in allcaps would look better [which was intended]

I could still increase it, but its an AoE Greater Bash (That synergizes with the ult) with a rather low cooldown.

Skill 2: Hmm... Proclaim seems counter-synergistic. o.O

If I change it to that it would be way more counter synergistic the current one actually makes them use the other 3 they could still do. I mean if they can't move and gets pummeled they'll resort to using their disables or items, if they can't cast spells they'll resort to attacking etc. Again the disable is random.

SKill 3: Interesting Passive, ensures that he packs a wallop when he initiates gank xD

Ulti: 2 parter, part 1 Hurts, part 2 is interesting. Nothing much to say though...

Will do.

Hmm, I'd consider this. I decided to use agi to make him more of a physical tank via armor.

First skill is like a cleaving nuke.

Basically yes, but is far more trickier to use.

Second is basically an AoE stun.

Read above.

Gears of the Titan is a good synergetic passive.

I guess it is.

I knew something was wrong! Thanks for pointing that out.

Meh. Got nothing else to do.

Higher STR than AGI is much better. Seeing the stats at first, I thought he was going to be a semi-carry/tank with those stats.

Review:

1st Skill - Instant? Magical or Physical? Totally pathetic to say the least. Even if it is an AoE disable I do suggest giving + damage depending on your damage. Scales better and synergizes with your 3rd Skill.

2nd Skill - Again, another weak skill. Even if it is spammable, 2 skills which are spammable especially with your low INT gain are rather difficult to uhhh... well... spam. An unreliable disable because of the randomness. AND its an active unlike those passive disables.

Even if it does synergize with the ultimate, the randomness cannot be accounted for.

3rd Skill - Makes last-hitting easier. Also ensures an easy chase/set-up so you can use your skills better. No prob here.

Ultimate - EPIC. Also making it global seems to ensure that you hit those hit-runners, blinker and the like. Still though a single combo depletes your mana almost immediately. Does the de-buff show in their status? I hope not since ganking with this skills is so rather good since opponents won't expect it and just keep last-hitting, use items, move, etc. Best of the lot.

Overall - Buffing up his first two skills, fixing the stats a bit(make his INT gain bigger while decreasing his other stat gain), tweaks here and there and you've got an albeit good hero in the making. Good Luck BTW.

Okay, seems like I need to work on the stats.

Review:

Thought so, I'll rebalance this with his normal damage.

2nd Skill - Again, another weak skill. Even if it is spammable, 2 skills which are spammable especially with your low INT gain are rather difficult to uhhh... well... spam. An unreliable disable because of the randomness. AND its an active unlike those passive disables.

Planning to change it with the skill below, I need comments about it.

Yey!

Skill 1: No comments. Very sound mechanics and concept. I like it.

Skill 2: Clever, nasty and evil. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Another good skill.

Skill 3: In an epic race back to base, this hero would be a bitch to chase down. You'd need someone like Bara or Lycan to catch him with this skill. Very nice.

Ultimate + Subskill: Oh snap! That's a very nice ability, but how will you know how many debuffs an enemy has? Perhaps give an allied vision only number above each enemy hero which shows how many debuffs they have.

Rebalance his stats please. More strength, much less agi, much more intelligence. Why in the world would he need even 1 point of agility!
Very nice character overall, esspecially the ultimate and Gears of the Titan. I hope he gets implemented. Epic model too.

This is actually new, the old one was uncodable (according to SN0W) glad you liked it.

Thanks.

Still long range disables screw him up easily. Because he needs time to cover distance to make this effective.

I guess that would work, didn't thought of a debuff in the status bar would be pretty obvious to experienced players.

Oh thanks for pointing that out, I just forgot to switch the stat gain. (You could check the changelog)
Thanks for the feedback guys.

Nice to see a justice-themed hero, I am reminded of my very first suggestion here which went bad lol.

1st skill - pretty cool when used in a clash or when you're surrounded. I like skills whose damage scale based on number of units present.

2nd skill - ok skill, situational but keeps enemies in check

3rd skill - love this passive, its simple and effective. Somehow works with Justice slam.

Ultimate (Subskill) - GJ on this, pretty unique. Truly defines this hero as what he's supposed to be.

Overall: It's a good start and I can imagine myself playing him, although he seems a bit too reliant towards enemy actions and waiting for something to happen he excels in his purpose in the battle field. I want to see a more proactive play from him coz he's just so reactive currently. T-up from me.

that is the place that he loves, in the middle of a clash where everyone is busy, casting spells moving etc.

2nd skill - ok skill, situational but keeps enemies in check

as i said he's very effective in the middle of clashes.

3rd skill - love this passive, its simple and effective. Somehow works with justice slam.

positioning is key for almost all his spells, so this helpss him alot.

well the current metagame of the game is towards early team fights / ganks and that is where this hero shines, to counter it.
bump ._.

[0-20] Despicable
[21-40] Bad
[41-60] Average
[61-70] Good
[71-80] Great
[81-99] Amazing
[100] Excellent

Your background story is...theme-related. But it suffices.

-:STATS OVERVIEW:-

Hmm, just from your stats you indicate that your Hero shines the most on mid-late game mark, however your skills show decreased potential as the game advances, and this is what bugs me. However, they are balanced. I see what you did there, Bristleback is amused.

-:SKILLS:-

[Skill A (Justice Slam)]
Values: 1/5 Bad
Originality: 3/5 Original
Utility: 3/5 Useful
Balance: 3/5 Balanced

Overall: 10/20 Average

Notes:
■It scales horribly. It's powerful at level 1, and it doesn't change almost at all throughout levelling it up.
■Physical damage makes this skill lose potential late game, while it is often imba on early game.
■The AoE is very little. Almost your attack range. Is that really necessary?

[Skill B (Proclaim)]
Values: 3/5 Good
Originality: 5/5 Prototypic
Utility: 4/5 Very useful
Balance: 3/5 Balanced

Overall: 16/20 Great

Notes:
■Great idea. Unique concept, and
■Does the unit kill count only via attack? because if not, it could be imba.
■Imo, a better scale would be appreciated. Even more, you could add types of punishment by levelling up.

[Skill C (Gears of the Titan)]
Values: 2/5 Average
Originality: 4/5 Very Original
Utility: 5/5 A must-have
Balance: 5/5 Perfectly Balanced

Overall: 16/20 Great

Notes:
■Weak. Another scale that I don't personally appreciate. My ideal one would be scaling ms and damage, as well as buff range, but keep the stacks the same.
■That idea is really good, really useful, with both chasing and escaping capabilities. A lovely passive.
■You didn't mention what happens if you cast a spell. Do both buffs get removed? Though actually, it'd be better for me if casting a spell wouldn't affect anything.

[Ultimate (Judgement)]
Values: 4/5 Great
Originality: 4/5 Prototypic
Utility: 4/5 Very useful
Balance: 2/5 Not balanced

Overall: 14/20 Good

Notes:
■The way you scale the skill here is weird as well, but as it causes not trouble imo, it's fine.
■Another nifty idea that synergies greatly with Gears.
■the bad thing is how you balance this. While killing a unit and casting a spell are reasonable, moving around triggering a Guilty Debuff is kinda overpowered. I mean, you can easily max out debuffs when you chase someone, along with Gears. Also the 3 second slow isn't really relevant to the idea.

-:ADDITIONALS:-

Skill synergies: 5/6 Marvelous
Template: 3/6 Good
Theme & Aesthetics: 4/5 Great
Personal bonus: 3/3 Great job

Overall: 15/20 Good

Notes:
■The skills are rather a nuke, and two skill that synergize with Gear, so they're good. If I were you, though, I would really reconsider some issues on Proclaim and Judgement, as they often create lose/lose situations for your enemies, which is bad.
■Your Template is good, but these black images with text like 'Skills) should use an nqb frame to be inside.
■The theme is good, a golem is awesomesauce, I wish you the best.

-:TOTAL SCORE:-

71/100
Great

Well I wanted him to be more of a early-mid game hero, I'm considering lowering stat gain and increasing starting stats.

-:SKILLS:-

[Skill A (Justice Slam)]
Values: 1/5 Bad
Originality: 3/5 Original
Utility: 3/5 Useful
Balance: 3/5 Balanced

Well the damage is quite low because it forces them to move (proclaim and judgement loves this).

[Skill B (Proclaim)]
Values: 3/5 Good
Originality: 5/5 Prototypic
Utility: 4/5 Very useful
Balance: 3/5 Balanced

Overall: 16/20 Great

Considering this one too, a unit kill counts with skills, so he'll get damaged and silence. The skill only lasts for 2 crimes a unit so it should be balanced.

[Skill C (Gears of the Titan)]
Values: 2/5 Average
Originality: 4/5 Very Original
Utility: 5/5 A must-have
Balance: 5/5 Perfectly Balanced

Overall: 16/20 Great

Notes:
■Weak. Another scale that I don't personally appreciate. My ideal one would be scaling ms and damage, as well as buff range, but keep the stacks the same.
■That idea is really good, really useful, with both chasing and escaping capabilities. A lovely passive.
■You didn't mention what happens if you cast a spell. Do both buffs get removed? Though actually, it'd be better for me if casting a spell wouldn't affect anything.

Haven't really thought of what happens when you cast a spell, and scaling the MS might be imbalanced (he'd get faster in shorter distance).

Well, we could increase the range before he gets a debuff, the 3 second slow is icing on cake and lets you chase down those pesky runners even if they manage to escape.

71/100
Great

I agree to what you said about Gears and Proclaim. However, the problem remains about Slam. You could just have it lvl1 and go for other skills instead.

As for Judgement, you have Proclaim and Gears for chasing, that's why I don't get why you want a slow, too.

I'll see what I can do with it.

Well the hero is meant to fuck up team fights FOR your team and not just yourself. Yes you could chase with Gears of the Titan but your team can't and Proclaim only lasts for 2 crimes which should happen at the team fight.
bump.

Well... There was some serious discussion going on... I don't think i have anything to add. I agree with everything NiKaNoRoU said. I agree with him that Sentence shouldn't give Guilty Debuffs for fleeing enemies- Proclaim's stun is enough in this case.
Although i love the hero idea. All the spells are balanced and work in combos. I think Justice Slam is good as it is... well what i suggest is swap the Initial and Crash damages- more initial damage will make you want to level it up more. And perhaps rescale the Initial damage (in my suggestion) to 50/100/150/200 because if you cast Proclaim and Justice slam the punishment for those cnockbacked units will be stun- 275 damage and 2 seconds stun from 2 spells is not that much at all.
Overall- i like the theme, the model and the spells. 17/20 from me for your idea.

His int gain is too high for a strength hero. Also it seems all of his spells are more for a int hero.

Maybe you should change his primary attribute to int ?

Also the Ulti seems a bit weak. It only synergies with one skill ?

Okay, I made some changes. Switched Proclaim's stun and Judgment's slow, I also increased the needed units to get a Guilty debuff.

I also increased the damage, it should scale better now, do note that it is mixed damage so armor and resistance reduces the damage.

Thanks.

Some changes to the stat to make him more early-mid game hero.

It works with all 3 skills, Slam makes the movement debuff trigger. It makes Proclaim way more risky. And Gears keeps you in range for them to get the debuffs.
Some number tweaks.
