Default Storm's Ball and Glimpse


1. Let's say Thrall casts Glimpse on Storm. Storm Balls away during the travel time. Is the Glimpse fast enough to hit Storm during his Ball phase?
2. Is Storm immune to the Glimpse projectile (and as a result, its effect) during Ball?
3. Let's theoretically say Storm can Ball for more than 4 seconds. When Glimpse hits him after he finishes Balling, would he go back to the original position before he Balled, or would it drop him back to the last 4 second position he was passing while Balling?

Yeah, I kinda suck at explaining, so bear with me.

In my experience, the glimpse 'traces' a path between where the target is and where the target was 4 seconds ago.

Fairly sure it isn't based off of a projectile ;0

IE when Thrall used glimpse on Spiritbreaker, Spiritbreaker casted Nether Strike, got teleported back 4 seconds, then appeared beside Thrall.

Fairly sure it would work the same way, except that Storm would end up wasting mana.

If Storm still had distance left (say he has a bloodstone with 100 charges and tried to ball across the map) then he would get teleported back but keep balling in the same angle/direction as he was, unless glimpse is triggered to cancel it (probably not).

"IMMUNITY"
-unsure how magic immunity affects glimpse, judging by SB ult + glimpse, guessing that it can't target magic immune but still affects them
-some spells like Slark's Pounce, SB ult, meathook set the unit's position, effectively nulling the glimpse tp, whichever 'position set' happens last
-some spells like waveform, ball lightning, will make the unit keep going, e.g. if you blink while waveforming you'll keep moving :|

when thrall is picked, every 0.25 sec position of every hero on map is stored in array.
so, doesnt matter what u do, how did u came here, u will be backed at position where u was 4 sec ago.
3) yes, panda will return to position, where he's balling
1) Storm will roll, but he will be placed at point, where he was 4 sec ago. Cuz Glimpse isnt a projectile.
2) Glimpse cannot be applied on invul units, isnt it?'

Ah, I didn't realize Glimpse wasn't a projectile. That answers all my questions then. Thanks!

Well for starters Glimpse shouldn't be able to be cast on a rolling Storm?

Let's say Thrall casts glimpse on Storm before he starts rolling, will he continue to roll to his destination after he arrives to where he was 4 seconds ago?
I see some intense mana drainage here..

storm come, he moved last 4 second to thrall
glimpse casted
storm cast ball on Thrall, lets say, Thrall stay so far away, that glimpse will return panda to point faster than he reach Thrall.
then panda will be ported on place where he stay 4 sec ago and will keep flying to thrall.
of course, panda will loose much more mana

Glimpse doesn't interrupt spell casting ? That would mean you can cast Freezing Field while you are moved by glimpse.

Glimpse interrupts spellcasting, but not Ball Lightning.

Though what DracoLich said is wrong.
Say that at the instant Storm Spirit is ported back, the distance between him and his target position is only 400 units.
After being ported back, he will move 400 units in the direction he was moving, then stop.

You cannot use more mana for Ball Lightning due to triggered movement than what you were supposed to use in the beginning.

But if you cast Glimpse on Panda he can't cast Ball Lightning because he is interrupted and if he casts Ball Lightning first you can't cast Glimpse on him because he is invulnerable. So how should both of them cast their spell at the same time ? Or can Glimpse target invulnerable units ?

ye, i forgot that ball is untoppable.
Ball will keep angle? If storm flying 200 units forward to point1, where he stayed 4 sec ago (lets say, Point 2), and got Glimpsed, will he fly 200 units forward from Point2, or will turn back and fly 200 units to point 1?

Glimpse has a delay before taking effect.
(the time it takes for the special effect to go from the target's original position to the target's position 4s earlier)

I shall attempt to summarize such that it would be clearer.

Sequence:
  • 1. Glimpse cast on Storm
  • 2. Storm rolls away.
  • 3. Depending on how long the rolling is, Glimpse might or might not move Storm before he stops rollling.
  • 4a. If Storm stops rolling before Glimpse animation finishes, Storm will be transported back in normal form.
  • 4b. If Storm gets transported back before finishing the roll, he will continue to roll towards that direction for what's left of his mana or the distance that is left right before he gets transported back to 4 seconds ago.


For 4b.
Lets say Storm balls 1000 range. He gets transported at 800 range. He will continue to roll in the same direction for 200 range or until his mana runs out.





For all those who don't know what Glimpse animation looks like, here's a pic.

The green box is the target's current position when I cast Glimpse.
The yellow box is the animation which needs to go to the red box. Once the animation reaches the red box's location, the target will be transported there.

Oh now I get it. Thought the unit doesn't move instant from point1 to point2, but a few units every 0.02 seconds or something like that.

Not really, it only stores up to 9 (or 4, too lazy to check if it stores all heros or just enemies) units every 0.25 which is pretty slow for the wc3 engine. Ofcourse if you had a 1000 thralls in the game there might be some lag, but dota is not coded to handle such extreme instances.
