Default The Horsemen

Sorry it took so long God of Death, but here's the first chapter of your fan fic.

For those of you wondering where this came from, check out God of Death's hero suggestion here. This story is based on that hero.

Quote:
Escape

We were Omega.

We were the end.

No world could stand before us, no being could rival our power. We were the destroyers, the reapers, the devourers.

But no more. Now we are imprisoned, our powers stripped from us, and we are feared by no one.

But we will escape. What was before will be again. The time is almost at hand, and soon we will be free.

Over the roar of flames and endless screams, I heard a shuffling sound. Looking up, I saw him. Our saviour; the servant of the one who agreed to free us. Wordlessly, he fitted a key into my chains, before handing me a shard of ice. As he turned to my companions, another sound filled the air. It was a sound I had come to dread; the howl of the hellions.

Panic filled the eyes of the servant, turning to me, he pointed desperately to the shard of ice in my hand. Realising what he wanted me to do, I shook my head. ‘Not without them.’ I said, gesturing to my fellow riders as I did so.

As the cries of the hellions grew closer, a voice filled with the sound of weapons clashing spoke. ‘There is no time brother!’ the voice said.

Turning, I began to argue with my fellow rider, only to be cut off by another voice, this one filled with the sound of stomachs grumbling. ‘War is right! You must return for us, but for now, run!’ the voice.

Another voice continued, a voice filled with the sound of authority. ‘What was before, will be again,’ it said. ‘But not today.’

All three voices combined and spoke as one. ‘Now go!’ they shouted.

As they spoke, the first of the hellions entered the chamber. Looking at me through eyes filled with hatred, it raised its hand. Realising what was about to happen, I dived to the side, an instant before the ground beneath me erupted into a column of fire.

Landing, I bared my arm, before plunging the shard of ice deep into my flesh. The effect was instantaneous, as I felt the cold rush through me, chilling me to the bone. Suddenly, my entire body was lifted into the air, as if held by an unseen hand.

More hellions burst into the cave, pausing only to decapitate the one who had saved me. As one they raised their hands, and a volley of fire blasts hurtled toward me. I closed my eyes in anticipation of the blow. It never came. Instead I felt my body being caressed by myriad currents. Opening my eyes I found myself in an evershifting dreamscape of colours. 'Where am I?' I asked, not expecting an answer.

To my suprise, a voice answered. 'You are in the Nether, the space between dimensions.' The air in front of me shivered, before forming into a suit of armor with no visible body. However I knew something resided in the armour. Something ancient, and evil.

Inclining my head I spoke. 'Ner'Zhul.'

'You know why I have released you,' replied the Lich King.

I nodded, before voicing my concern. 'My comrades are still imprisoned. That was not part of the agreement.'

The Lich King hesitated for a brief instant, before answering. 'What happened in Abyssus was... Unfortunate. However, you have my word that I will work to free your accomplices.'

I nodded once more. 'Without the other riders, I cannot undo the binding on my powers,' I replied.

The armour raised one of its gauntlet's, which began to shine with blue light. 'While you cannot use your own power, you can still wield that of others.' The armour paused, before voicing a question. 'Will you follow my orders once I have bestowed upon you a fraction of my power?'

I smiled. 'Of course.'

'Good. Largior Glacies Veneficus!' The Lich King cried, as the blue light shot forth from the gauntlet. I braced myself, but nothing could have prepared me for the blast of pure cold that hit me, seeming to sear my very bones. Ice began to form around me, spreading outwards until I was covered in crystalline armour. The cold swept through me again, and again, wave after wave, until I felt it touch the well of my power, my mana core. The cold was as merciless as it had been to the rest of me, reaching icy fingers into the core of my being. And then, it was over. Where before I had been powerless, now I stood a powerful warrior. Raising my hand, I watched as ice melted and reformed around my gauntlet.

'It is done,' decreed the Lich King. 'Now go, my death knight.'

The many coloured dreamscape shifted around me, rushing inwards. Just as I thought that I would be crushed, the landscape abruptly changed. Where there had been many colours, now there was but one. Green. A deep lush vibrant green. Around me, hundreds, no, thousands of trees stood, tall and ancient.

Suddenly, the trees in front of me quivered, before collapsing to the ground. In there place, a huge metal machine moved forward, it's great jaws devouring the fallen trees. Behind it, a host of thousands marched, their bony claws and metal boots silent on the earthen floor. At the head of the host stood three figures. One, a reddish orc astride a horse. The second was a necromancer, thought taller than the others in the army. And the third... I recoiled, as I realised that a hellion stood before me.

'Relax,' a voice said from behind me. Whirling around, I saw... nothing. The air shimmered, and I found myself looking at another member of the undead. This one seemed different however. For one, it's skull blazed with a fire unlike any I'd seen before. And it's eyes... It's eyes held intelligence. This was no mere mindless slave. This was a general of the undead.

'The Lich King employs a hellion!' I cried, struggling to contain my anger. If he was working with the hellions, then that meant that-

The skeleton before me cut off my train of thought with eight words. 'That hellion is a traitor to his kind.'

'Who do you think told the Lich King where to find you?' a deep growling voice asked.

Turning back to the army, I saw the hellion had approached me, the orc and the necromancer standing at his side.

The orc spoke, his voice containing the echo of somebody I had known long ago. I shook my head to clear, catching the end of the orc's sentence. '-all friends here. We need to work together if we're going to take down the Sentinel outpost.'

I nodded, before replying. 'I understand. Now, where exactly is the outpost.'

The necromancer gestured to a rise. 'Over yonder hill,' he answered. 'But be warned, we do not have long before the artifact we are here for is moved.'

I grimaced, before reaching over my shoulder to draw my scythe. Then I remembered. I growled in anger. The hellions would pay for what they had done. But for now, I would need a weapon. Holding out my hand, I focused, trying to understand the extent of my new powers. The air over my gauntlet shone, as ice began to form. Gritting my teeth, I shaped it, darkening and hardening it until it fit the purpose I had made it for. I held out my hand, and a sword of pure ice flew into it.

'Well then,' I replied. 'We better get started.'
If you're wondering, the words that the Lich King says when giving his power to Death are Latin. Same goes for the name of the place that Death was imprisoned in. I'll let you figure out what they mean .

Why thank you . Any particular requests for later chapters, or are you happy to let me go with my own plot? The plot summary is posted in the guild, so feel free to check it out. Beware spoilers though.

How do you feel the first person point of view works by the way? I normally don't write like that, but thought I'd try it out for this piece of work, partially because the starting (and ending lines of the whole thing) wouldn't work in third person.

I won't check the plot; I'd rather watch it play out. I'm seriously one for plots, as you might see in Dusk, so I won't spoiler ^_^ No requests at all, except make him badass like he's supposed to be!

And, well, I'd say it's worth it to make it in third person just to have the lines

Also, it is so epic to hear the personal thoughts of the bringer of an apocalypse! Which is why I like the first person style here =D

E: Damn. Itching to spoiler

^Yep, those lines are my favourite as well. They were the first thing I came up with when I started writing this, and they're just so cool I agree with you, first person is definitely the best option, if only to have those lines. Although being able to see into one of the Rider's heads is also a plus. I was a bit worried about whether or not I had made him seem too weak in this chapter, but hopefully that wasn't a problem. He'll kick ass next chapter anyway, trust me.

Hehehe, spoilers just sit there and taunt you. Be strong, be strong.

Considering he's lost most of his powers, seeming weak isn't a problem. What is a problem is his fear of Clinkz

I've made up my mind to not peek, and wait patiently for your next piece!

Great chap! For a second I thought this was about Kaldr, but then I realized it was Abbdon.

^Thanks. The hero is actually Death, based off a the contest winning suggestion by God of Death. The link for the suggestion is in the first post if you want to check it out.

Not at the moment . I've written a little more but the first person view point feels a little bleh when I write any more of this story.
