Default [ITEM] Smoke of Deceit


Smoke of Deceit

It is said that the smoke is made from envy, pride, lust, greed, wrath, sloth, and gluttony of human race combined with the breathe of the Lich King. Anyone under this smoke can deceive anyone even the wisest king.

Additional Information:
2 charges
Maximum stock of 2 in store
Store stock takes 4 minutes to replenish
Stacks with itself in inventory

Deceit:
Places a buff on self and allied units in 1050 AoE that prevents them from becoming visible on minimap.

Lasts 15 seconds, costs 5 mana, and has a 60 second cooldown

Animation:
Upon Cast, a smoke animation glittering on the heroes for 1.5 secs. Heroes would regain their usual visual effect but still under deceit status for 15 secs.
If the hero would be given a smoke animation during the entire buff, the surprise status and guessing whether a smoke is used or not ,will be easily revealed therefore it is best to have no animation at all during the entire buff time except during cast.
(mind games->confusion sets in-> instilling fear in opposing team
->worrying about gank->more difficult to farm->less farm fest->more interesting game).

Justifications:
  • This is a good counter for observer wards
  • This is a good ganking tool specially that most of tournaments today is mostly farm fest due to perfect warding and map awareness of players.
  • This is not only for offense but defense also by blinding the opponents minimap while you juke out of trouble. Though a double edge sword since your teammate will have a hard time locating you for backup but a skilled teammate may manually scan you on their screen.

Pros:
  • good ganking tool (as an element of surprize is achieved if one relies on minimap alone).
  • avoids being seen by enemy observer wards indirectly by being invisible to minimap
  • helps you and your allies juke out of danger

Cons:
  • you and your allies are also under deceit status which is invisible to minimap which may render miscommunication among teamates (a well coordinated and skilled players can countermeasure this disadvantage).
  • generally you are still visible to the actual screen since it only affects visibility in the minimap.
  • unspammable since after the 2 smoke of deceit with 2 charges for a total of four at the start of the game, the team can only buy 1 smoke of deceit every 4 mins therefore only 2 charges every 4 mins can be used (this item must be used wisely). A great strategy is to buy every cooldown if one has money to have constant supply every 4 mins for ganking strategy purposes but yet ofcourse if the team can afford so but come to think of it that a successful gank means everything (gold, experience, possible free push, more gold, level gap, annoyance-mind games, etc).

Further Analysis:
  • Countermeasure will be done by pros by clicking here and there therby making their lives even more complicated. Besides clicking here and there will mean less time for doing your usual chores and end up being killed if initiated while clicking somewhere else. ^_^
  • Clicking here and there is easier said than done since they wont know where and when to click.
  • And so a perfectly executed plan with the proper timing with the aid of smoke of deceit will ensure a successful gank.
  • Therefore after all is said and done, use of smoke of deceit sparringly is still the best to avoid your opponent being too cautious.
  • This item is just another tool for ganking but doesnt ensure a succesful gank.
  • If this item will be implemented, one thing is certain, mini-map may not always be reliable thereby confusion comes in.
  • This item will boost ganking potential definitely.
  • This item is a nice addition for the purpose of juking/escaping.

It's not that much of a counter for sentry wards, rather for observer wards. Mixed that up more than once here ;-)

Interesting idea for sure, and as you said really cool for ganking.

Yeah, it was new to me, but there are two functions:

SetAltMinimapIcon() takes the path of a texture.
UnitSetUsesAltIcon() takes a unit and a boolean.

So I tested it and that was all the code I needed (left out the activation here, but that's trivial).

Epic idea.

Alot of ganks, Pubs especially, are ruined by just the slightest glimpse of an enemy hero on the minimap.

ALSO, as an added effect, perhaps make it that you obstruct vision of enemy heroes?

Well i won`t agree to this - even the most pro guy isn`t able to watch the whole map all the time. unless he`s auto-attacking, or staying behind like a noob.

/OT:
It`s a good idea...
Now i can hear those competitive players screaming "Hack! We didn`t see you coming through our ward-wall"
Maybe increase the price a little (250-300?)
