Default New Project in Development

New AOS coming...The Ancient Frontier - The Hive Workshop

looking for opinions from dota players.

there are currently tons of bugs in the map so don't bother posting about them at this stage of the project's development. it's not even ready for major alpha testing. still, i wanted to make the project development more visible to dota players than just having it in my signature, so i'm making this thread so you can discuss us.
no need to register at hiveworkshop but if you're already registered there, i recommend you post there, as well.
at any rate you'll get the most up to date posted information by following that link to that project thread there, considering that's where you can download the map at and it will be updated whenever i get a chance. IF IT'S APPROPRIATE then i would also be inclined to attach the map to this original post of this thread.

the idea behind the project is that it develops the role of the forest monsters to make the game have more of a rpg feel than dota has. so there is the sense of an arena about the map. but it is also having a lane being pushed.

keep in mind that the terrain the map is currently using is entirely changeable. the way it is now will speed up the map development as much as possible. after the rest of the map has been completed, the terrain can be revamped and units replaced into it.

of course there is room for suggestions for the project including suggestions for items and heroes, and especially, forest monsters.

i know there's not much heroes to select at the moment, but i'm trying for originality of design of the heroes, and even if i had a tons of heroes and no items and the forest monsters unfinished, it would be a pretty boring game.

with that said though i'm planning to when i get enough heroes developed randomize the selection process for every game. in other words, you'd get to select only from 24 heroes out of the total hero complement in the game. basically kinda like random draft mode. but then there's an option for each player to ban one hero. and so it's going to be a bit like captain's mode in that regard, as well.

one of the more exciting aspects of the game will be that each player will have control over not 1 but 3 different heroes. it will also be a 2-4 player game. so that issues with leavers will be somewhat minimal compared to games that are designed for 10 players or so.

Ohh! So you're also a PlayDotA forum member.

I'm also a member in Hive, but with a different Username > random.guy27

Anyway...

Hive is composed of many (but not all) DotA haters and wanted their maps to be original and as far as possible from DotA.
Why am I saying this?
Just to point out what you should ask in Hive...
Quote:
• New Gameplay
• New mechanics
• Originality (In general)
• Terraining

* They specialize here more. Like what I said, I want their maps to be far from DotA and they are also good at terraining and stuffs.
As for here in PlayDotA forum...
Almost all, if not all, are DotA lovers (Duh for me)
While here, you should ask about...
Quote:
• Hero Suggestions
• Item Suggestions
• Neutral Creep (The one you called "Forest Monsters")

* They are more creative when it comes to suggesting these things since the "Hero Ideas" and "Items Ideas" section of the forum. Not saying all are good but, most know things like Hero Synergy, Item Synergy, Synergy in general.

I could help you in these stuffs.

But keep these in mind, Balance is subjective and Vote on CONCEPT. Not on NUMBERS
With that # of post, I'm sure you know this already.

today i updated the project attachment at hiveworkshop. i hopefully fixed some lag issues with a tornado spell, and added support for dummy units properly attributing their kills to the hero that spawned them. there might be some dummy units not registered, so if you find a hero not getting credit for their kill, mention it and i can register their dummy unit. i also had to change the base spell for razor gale for a new hero that is going to be using some new ultimate ability...it will be kind of like meepo's clones or phantom lancer's images, but it's different.

basically you cast a spell and for about 24 seconds or so you'll have these "shadows" following you around and doing as you do. right now the delay is .3 of a second, and it's subject to change. i imagine if we increase the movement speed of the hero, the effect would look cooler....so the shadows will be casting the spells you cast and have the same stats as your hero, but they will not interfere with your gaining of experience. they will disappear after the duration is up(put away to be brought back later) so it's a nice powerup during a battle, like chaos knight's ultimate. right now the cooldown is 45 seconds, which is pretty low considering the 24 second duration. but all the numbers are subject to changing. in fact razor gale itself will undergo quite a few changes soon(besides the obvious icon/tooltip changes).

right now the hero has incinerate(unfinished), razor gale(needs minor adjustments and proper icon/tooltip), shadow servant(might need minor adjustments and needs proper icon/tooltips), but there is one ability missing. i need one more for the hero, but for now i haven't a good idea.

there's also the possibility that the skill set as it is may be transferred over in the entirety to a white warden.

in the mean time i need to start working on the items or this'll be a pretty boring game, without those...

got that new hero reworked and got some guys to help with the visuals... the cape has been slightly modified and the icons have been made which were missing. starfall will no doubt be modified to look cool and be better in general.

lol sephiroth can fill the screen with flames. the way creeps move is a bit annoying.I dont get the way of reviving a hero and you should add something at the end of the map it looks like pathable terrain

what do you mean by "the way creeps move is a bit annoying"?

and this part, "I dont get the way of reviving a hero" tells me you barely tested the map at all...

but i don't blame you. it's not so far along that i'd expect you to test it a long time, heh heh.

added the base for the item drop lists and added the random selection of 24 heroes for drafting out of the total hero pool.

look forward to monsters dropping items! right now they all drop same item but i'll make some more items for them to drop next. it's at the top of my to do list....lots of work to do for items right now.

added some more items and item ideas, and added a lot of forest monster abilities. worked on heroes and descriptions...progress is picking up as of late! The Hive Workshop - View Single Post - New AOS coming...The Ancient Frontier go to the bottom of the post for the newest version. the monsters are seeing a lot of progress, work now to do is mostly items.

just a friendly bump to let you know that i've updated the map again for the hiveworkshop thread! you can mosey on over and check it out. i haven't updated the eyecandy, for the thread, though...it's still a little underdeveloped...heh. expect me to put out quite a bit more item eyecandy for the main post once i've got more work down on the items.

in the meantime...i would like to ask you dota players for some suggestions/ideas or whatever for items for my map. take a look at what i have so far in the various shops(there are also quite a few secret shops in the forests) and get a feel for it all, if you will. then let me have your ideas that spring up from taking a look at stuff in the map. thanks! in the meantime i'll probably be playing some dota and/or other games to give me a little bit of inspiration or to just let my inspiration center recharge or whatever..

I'd love to see screens. Or get a better understanding of map layout and movement.

i got some older ones i can share right now. these were mostly showing off the multiboard functionality...

here's one i just took of the terrain.
the blue and red circles are where the bases are. the army will travel along the outer edge of the map to the other base. at the middle of the path, you can venture off towards the middle of the map where the forest is...there's a half for both teams to fight in...complete with shops and a rune point. right now the rune points don't do anything, in fact i've a lot a work to do on those items, anyway...if you ignore the forests and continue along the center path there is another shop and a higher level forest, complete with a crystal golem that drops an "ankh" item(in dota it's the aegis of the immortal). in top left we see where you may choose/view/ban the heroes available for the game you're playing, and in bottom right we see an area that does nothing.

Nope :/ not appearing in your post.
Doesn't work with IE or Chrome.
Could you rehost on something like tinypic or imageshack?

Edit: is there an option to make your HW album public? I had to do that for images to appear in my guides here.

Maybe you were still able to see them because the images were saved in your cookies.

Just had a friend check, he couldn't see the images either. You'll probably have to save them and rehost on another site :/
