Default [Overhaul] Vengeful Spirit


Introduction

Hey ladies and gentlemen,

right now Vengeful Spirit got one of the most inconsistent visuals in my opinion.
She throws herself when attacking, the wave of terror is made of multiple howls and the buff FX is the same as Lyca's howl and Bara's charge, the magic missile is a blue frosty projectile and her command aura is brown. The only FX I really like is the swap effect.
The icons don't fit to each other: The frosty projectile, a demon's fangs, a Tauren's paw, a... stick.

So I put some effort into giving her a visual overhaul.

I decided on a purple/red color scheme, which seems most fitting to me.

Comments:

Magic Missile:
This is just a recolor of the current one. I tried a ton of effects and they all did not fit well; This icon fits the suggested effect while being warcraftish.

Wave of Terror:
Based on this icon by Crazyrussian. Not much to say, I think it's quite fitting.

Command Aura:
Taken from here. 4eNNightmare did a very good job making this, but I did not like his other VS icons too much.

Nether Swap:
Placeholder icon! I did not yet find a good icon for Nether Swap, so I quickly remade Mass Teleportation. It is ugly, but the color scheme fits (roughly) so it is not too annoying when you want to check the other icons.
If anyone got a really good idea or is able to make good icons he can post it here, I'd really appreciate a good icon.



Visual effects


The main part

Projectile
I decided to use the default ladder projectile. Tried some other things, they did not look too good and this projectile fits to the red orb in her chakram.
Finding an alternative for Warlock should not be the problem.

Magic Missile

Based on the old effect, but less icy and more magical. Colors are adapted to her new color scheme.

Wave of Terror

She is a spirit and it is a terrifying wave - what would fit better than ghosts?
The wave FX consists of 5 ghosts based on ribbon emitters, flying around towards the target location. I am not 100% sure if the speed is right, but if I am not mistaken the data is correct. Just in case it looks too fast for you guys.
The buff FX consists of 2 smaller ghosts hovering around the target, which both reminds of the old effect and fits to the wave effect.

Buff FX: 1349 bytes


Command Aura

I did not find a good-looking texture to create a simple aura and I did not want to use shockwaves again. I dislike custom texture imports, so I experimented with existing textures and stumbled upon endurance aura, which looks quite fine and aggressive with a different texture:

Nether Swap

Swap is totally fine imo, no changes!

Testmap

I was too lazy to completely code the wave and swap, so there are no swap targets (it has no new effect, anyway) and the wave does not create the buff effect. Instead, some of the peasants standing around permanently have the buff FX.
Abilities deal no damage so you can test them without peasants running around :P

Feedback

...should be constructive if possible. Just saying that you dislike something does not help anyone, an explanation what you like/dislike is far more helpful.

I guess the icons are a work in progress, cos everything except Command Aura and Magic Missile look bad IMO.

The effects, on the other hand, seem great. Except Command Aura. I reckon they need to me more definitive.

I'll test the testmap soon and see for myself

All looks good.

For the ultimate icon I'd like to see something very simple and easy to understand (even like a two-way arrow would be good)

I prefer the current Howl visual to be honest. Everything else is good though.

As for projectiles, I still think giving Venge the red one, giving Warlock Furion's green meteor, and Furion one of the bird projectiles is the way to go.

As I said, Swap is a placeholder icon.
I kinda like the wave FX though.

If you got an alternative idea for Command Aura I am all ears, but I like the one I made as well.

Most of them are good
But there's some that I don't like:

1) Wave of Terror, icon and missile, the icon is kinda unwarcraft-ish for me, the effect looks ugly when stretched
2) Ulti icon, I know that it's a place holder

All in all I have to say I dislike most of this suggestion.

Icons:
Magic Missile: Color looks better, but I dislike the general theme of the skill. I think a simple recolor isn't worth the MSI for it (at least mirroring would be better, so it doesn't look completely like the ingame icon).
Terror: In my eyes it lacks WC3-Style, therefore I don't like it.
Command Aura: I dislike the colors. My favorite icon for this skill is the recolored and turned version of old Telekinesis.
Nether Swap: Since it is a placeholder, I won't rate it. However, I have to say, I really love current one. It looks great and wouldn't find any other use ingame. Additionally, since the players are used to it anyway, why not just keep current on? It fits with the color scheme anyway.

Projectile: T-up. Tossing herself doesn't look good.

Magic Missile: It still uses the horrible sounds from current one. I never liked those (They have such an icy feel). All in all it looks better than current one. Still, I prefer the version where she throws herself on this skill (maybe with some magical touch up effects).

Terror: Your basic idea looks awesome. Buff looks even better. There is still some things that bother me, though. It doesn't really look "well-defined", it is not really possible to tell the AoE. Current one is some concentrated energy, it gives you this feeling that "everyone in this area is affected", however, with your model there isn't really a defined area. The buff also looks a bit this way. Maybe it is just me that I dislike the sized Spirit Tower missile. Another reason could be that it is too transparent... Anyway, please note that it is still better than current one and I'd prefer it ingame, I just think it isn't perfect.

Command Aura: Looks nice. Maybe a bit too transparent.

Nether Swap: Like you said, current one is fine, but I'd prefer to have that overused "Death Pact"-effect removed/replaced.
