DotA Building Grounds
"Ideas have seen, suggestions have heard... Now is the time to make them work..."
Getting a new hero in DotA from these forums takes a lot of work and is only chance-based (implemented or not). Also, many suggestions come with highly imbalanced, crappy, copy-paste and uncodable ideas because users don't know what it will look like in-game and their suggestions is based on their personal gaming taste. But, some suggestions have shined through the forums, giving them a chance to be implemented. The only problem in "having" this chance, some of us are able to program testmaps, using most data for getting as close as possible to the real thing, giving others an (still not 100%) idea about what's it going to be.
Right now, some members and I have started a new group, divided by teams in order to work on a Decent Public DotA Template we have found. This is the project Dota Building Grounds, an advanced testmap to bring suggestions that deserve a chance to shine on the screen at least.
This might ensure an easier suggestion implementation chance on the real DotA map, for users on the Suggestion forums, our plan is to work separately on specific tasks, gathering information and implementing/coding whatever is necessary.
Our communications will be via forum itself, Skype and Dropbox for map storage during development.
Receiving the token for creating 1 hero and 1 item.
Current member working on map development will work only on these suggestions. Tokens last until the member reports his/her success on that task. Also this member must send the map back to the shared storage (Dropbox folder) so that the next member can start implementing whatever he/she's requested to.
Up to 24 heroes from Heroes Suggestion Forums and 24 Items will be created for the first launch version. We'll replicate some of the heroes from the current DotA map (not the hardcoded ones, i.e.: invoker) to keep a comparision marker (for balance purposes). When the first version of DotA - Building Grounds is ready for posting, a locked version of the map will be released on a public.
In any case, we must create a group for making this possible since this will require a lot of work (coding stuff and creating effects, whatever is necessary). For this, I'll have to ask for:
- Members having experience at world editor and mechanics (terrain design, icons, effects, destructibles, values, etc...).
- Members with coding experience on GUI or JASS.
- Members with experience at DotA gaming and the way it works.
- Members with at least a hero solid hero suggestion with some good comments and T-UPs.
To those interested, please comment about what you think, this might be a chance to do something else than seeing our posts dying or being destroyed by negative comments.
