"Ideas have seen, suggestions have heard... Now is the time to make them work..."

The Statement

Getting a new hero in DotA from these forums takes a lot of work and is only chance-based (implemented or not). Also, many suggestions come with highly imbalanced, crappy, copy-paste and uncodable ideas because users don't know what it will look like in-game and their suggestions is based on their personal gaming taste. But, some suggestions have shined through the forums, giving them a chance to be implemented. The only problem in "having" this chance, some of us are able to program testmaps, using most data for getting as close as possible to the real thing, giving others an (still not 100%) idea about what's it going to be.

Right now, some members and I have started a new group, divided by teams in order to work on a Decent Public DotA Template we have found. This is the project Dota Building Grounds, an advanced testmap to bring suggestions that deserve a chance to shine on the screen at least.

This might ensure an easier suggestion implementation chance on the real DotA map, for users on the Suggestion forums, our plan is to work separately on specific tasks, gathering information and implementing/coding whatever is necessary.

The Process

Our communications will be via forum itself, Skype and Dropbox for map storage during development.

Phase 1: Receiving the token for creating 1 hero and 1 item.

Current member working on map development will work only on these suggestions. Tokens last until the member reports his/her success on that task. Also this member must send the map back to the shared storage (Dropbox folder) so that the next member can start implementing whatever he/she's requested to.

Phase 2: ---

Up to 24 heroes from Heroes Suggestion Forums and 24 Items will be created for the first launch version. We'll replicate some of the heroes from the current DotA map (not the hardcoded ones, i.e.: invoker) to keep a comparision marker (for balance purposes). When the first version of DotA - Building Grounds is ready for posting, a locked version of the map will be released on a public.

The Requirements

In any case, we must create a group for making this possible since this will require a lot of work (coding stuff and creating effects, whatever is necessary). For this, I'll have to ask for:
  • Members having experience at world editor and mechanics (terrain design, icons, effects, destructibles, values, etc...).
  • Members with coding experience on GUI or JASS.
  • Members with experience at DotA gaming and the way it works.
  • Members with at least a hero solid hero suggestion with some good comments and T-UPs.
To those interested, please comment about what you think, this might be a chance to do something else than seeing our posts dying or being destroyed by negative comments.

To those who want to join the group and met the requirements, well, you know what to do, create a post or a PM to me.

I like this idea....if any ones willing to teach me coding I will help out ...also I think people are more interested in dota 2 then suggesting or replying to suggestions atm....might get worse after beta kick starts

meh, those testmap are optional , you really don't need a testmap to show how great is a skill, take glimpse for example, evey1 hated it when it was suggested and now it tbs made a comic with it.

so if i sign up i must help with the map making or i can sign up to request?

I actually love this idea. And since irisu (i generally trust your ideas) is carrying it out, I put much more faith in this than the failed filter suggestions part of the forum... I'll help if you need me. PLEASE, JUST PLEASE GET RID OF THOSE DAMN POSTS/THREADS BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Good Trolling is ok, most people can see its funny and it comes very rarely. Bad trolling just clogs up the forums. Anyways, aside from the rant, I like the idea of the group

Wait a second, have i talked to you before? i can't remember you D: ..., btw, Only moderators can remove things on the forums, i'm just a member. And well, thanks for your support, you've got some energy and seems you like the idea also :P

Another question, "failed filter suggestions part of the forum"?, what's that about?

@SHTO: i didn't know they're optional, but looking on the positive side, making a map basically with some suggested heroes would allow us a clearer image about them in action, this can be useful even for icefrog (if he's going to keep working on DotA of course), who knows?, i say if we can give it a try and have a chance to success, that's something.

@Wrooks: well, trying won't hurt anyone :P

Interesting. When I was trying to leave the forumsMan! You don't how difficult it was for me to stop creating. xD, I've got a similar idea.

Well, if I had enough knowledge about coding, I could make a new map of my own. That's not the case, but you receive my respectful T-UP.

I want to see the path this thought will take.

Lol... no, i rarely contact anyone, I just comment and watch. Some people are worth listening to, some are not. Observing can tell you a lot. Well, I know only moderators can remove, but at least the group can gain some respect and perhaps respect can lead to a cleaner forum.

Option 2 is already possible if DOTA 2 comes out.
But IMO, it'd be better if IF simply put a model of hero with main statistics, the rest will be finished by the community.
This is especially better, since we have no ideas about model characters in DOTA 2.

So, IF will be the official creator of CTH.

@Evfeed: I looked at that template, seems pretty basic, but with some adjustments it can work effectively. All i would need is to set a group for this development...

Edit: Any chance for making the DotA1 one last update (6.73) with as many heroes from Sugg's forum as possible? Items suggs too...Would be good to see a version where our hard work is compensated through entering game...I mean DotA2 will appear anyway so it would be good to see some of our best suggestions enter the game for only this version...

Oh and if someone knows how to make cool videos or draw very good we could make portraits for heroes or make a video where our heroes fight between them or against already in-game heroes...

^ We need icefrog's approval and of course if we make it who will play it? We need Icefrog to help publish it and I think it could fit in DotA msi or not...there are plenty ways to reduce MS...

Well... We can bring in the new heroes and test them out in the map. If Icefrog likes any of them, then he could port them over to the actual DotA (unless you want this to be a separate mod?) Anyways, the balancing would be hard as hell... (It is one thing to balance a new hero with an old one, it is another to balance 50 new heroes where each hero idea is made without even knowing that the others existed. I can help with that part I guess)

You balance all heroes comparing to old heroes...But I agree that without testing there can be no balance...because of this we make our own BETA test and then after balancing we can present it to IF
