Default DOTA 2 in LAN

so, Internet in my country is really really slow and it's impossible to play a game online, too much lag etc
my question... are they going to release DOTA 2 with LAN option anytime?
it's true most of the games are played online these days, but I think LAN can be useful still

EDIT by Cymen: Just so we do not have more false information in this thread, here is a link to the confirmation of this feature.

Unless Icefrog announces that there will be LAN and the ability to host your own servers, you can just assume the opposite. Even though if it weren't for private servers and LAN, DOTA2 wouldn't of been here today.

you can play dota 2 at lan right now if im not mistaken. tho you need to know how to console commands work because by that is the only way to do it.

Lan is a must! That's why SC2 didn't get the respect it deserves.

There will be no LAN.

No Lan = Valve has complete control over the game.
LAN = Anyone can run servers.

It is an easy decision.

Not gonna happen.
LAN funtion can use for platforms like garena and others, so less profit for Valve.
3 games that don't have LAN: LoL,HoN and starcraft II.

At least Dota 2 should support playing matchmaking with 2 computers at one house. So you dont have connection issues with the same Ip.

No need, SC2 don't have LAN feature but still popular in South Korea.
LAN feature will encourage people to play the game on illegal copy rather than buying them.
Don't play the game if don't wanna buy it. Go play tetris or pong.

As said by one person here, you can already play LAN in dota 2 by using console commands, and there is a discussion about how to get it to work in the dev forums, so while its not explicitly endorsed, its allowed.

No point if it isn't directly supported by the developers. It's just way too buggy and newer unofficial clients based on the version is also buggy.

All it does is give people bad impression about the game. If S2 was to release an up to date LAN version of HoN tomorrow it could very well replace Warcraft3 permanently.

It does not. The majority of games played in LAN centers in China now are MMOs and other minor types of online games. It makes absolutely no difference to people if they play on a LAN or online in a LAN center, they're there for the computers, not the connectivity.

The only plausible reason to have LAN is so people can pirate the game. Obviously valve isnt interested in giving people that option (although technically, Dota 2 already has LAN. Ive been using it)

Do tell, why else would we want LAN? As long as Valve has good servers, there's no reason to.

If Dota 2 wants to be anywhere near Dota 1's glory it must have LAN.
In most Asian countries including India, china, singapore most games are played in LAN cafes. So, not having the LAN option will make people either play dota 1 or some other game, because no one wants to waste time in logging into steam, into dota, wait for online server, etc.

I see the problem. You're in space, that's why you have really slow internet. Haha XD.
Anyways, I would like LAN very much. It would be easier to play with my friends. But with LAN, it would be easier to pirate the game so I think it wouldn't be implemented.

I absolutely agree. Private servers and LANs gave rise to what DotA is today. I'm sure they'll pull through with something of the sort to enable lanning. We need to remember that the game is still so far from being released. They still have plenty time to permit anything

Local Area Network is local. Other people on the network may well be in punching distance...

In any case, I fully expect there to be LAN support. I'm pretty sure Valve allows people to host their own servers for most of their multiplayer games: Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, and so on.

Well u think that they would spend millions of dollars on developing a game and end up with people using pirated versions for their use and in cafes?

Lol its not gona happen in Dota 2.

really want LAN to be avaliable for DotA 2, but it's most likely no going to happen.
I think (not sure) the reason might be DotA 2 like Starcraft 2 have a much bigger
file for LAN to handle, will take too long to load and lots of lags and maybe some delay.
so... good luck! xD
