aga is pretty much a must on the hero. After that, the items I get pretty much revolve around what my team needs.

There are many ways to play with invoker but one way I think is very good (It is my opinion)
Boots,Bloodstone, Sheepstick or Boots, Orchid, Blink or Treads, Radiance |

While Aghanim's is a great item on him, it's not really THAT good until level 17 so rushing it is not always a good idea. If you go Q W build, you really should get some int or mana regen before that.

If you're going quas build, get eye of skadi.
If you're going for wex, get cyclone. If you're going for exort, get radiance. Remember to get items of the same attribute or you won't get that 1.5x same element type bonus damage. |

depends on how you want to play invoker.
only thing that i´d really recommend in every build is agha, since its a huge buff for invoker. but apart from that....even a fast deso can be fun, when you whack almost every hero to dust in 3-4 hits with alacrity ^^ |
