Default [ANIMATION] Avalanche


EDIT: Added some details about how to show the spell animation of Avalanche.

What's This

A long long time ago, there was a suggestion in the old DotA-Allstars forum that sought to improve Avalanche's spell animation. This is a revival of that suggestion.

The Improvement?

Basically, it's making Avalanche go from being this:



to this:



All it requires is 3 simple steps:

1) Change the spell's casting animation to "spell" in the Object Editor. No custom scripting required.
2) Make the spell originate 100 units in front of Tiny, so that it looks like he's "pushing" the rocks forward.
3) Give the (dummy) spell a missile arc of 0.2 so that they look like they are flying in an arc, because if you look closely, the rocks slide on the ground towards their target destination now.

Will It Affect Gameplay?

Tiny is quite famous for his 0 cast point, which means that all his spells have no casting time. Adding a cast animation wouldn't, in any way, change his spell's 0 casting time or how it works at all. It can still be cancelled instantly after it is cast like now (casting Avalanche still interrupts Tiny's orders even without a cast time), and the rocks still travel at the same speed.

And adding the animation isn't futile, because while Tiny has 0 casting time on his spells, people still take time to animation cancel it, so you actually can catch a glimpse of him doing something, instead of him standing still and telekinetically moving his rocks.

Technical Problems

It has been brought to my attention that Tiny's spell animation might be hard to show when he's casting the spell because of his 0 cast point time. I've managed to make it show on my own test map, and I'll share some ways that it can be made to show.

1) If the spell is based off Channel, give it a Follow Through Time of 1 second.
2) If the animation just refuses to show, Tiny can be given a cast backswing to show it. This retains Tiny's instant cast attributes, but players will have to animation cancel to keep him moving.

Seen this before and tried the test map... this one really looks better than just having Tiny stand then a couple of rocks fly around from his back

Maybe he has no casting animations because of his really, really small attack speed (after having ultimate)?
I don't know. But You are surely right. It sucks that he uses no casting animation, while he has ones which look really nice.
