I've played for 5-6 years aswell and switching wasn't really hard QWER is just superior to everything. Then again i did play wow with like 50+ binds with awkward ones so i guess that hlps

legacy keys are needlessly complicated. Pretty sure you get used to them fast, at least a lot faster than it would be when you wanted to change from qwer to legacy.

I took me about ~30 games to get used to QWERDF; generally. I have noticed an interesting thing. QWERDF is not game specific but rather, hero specific. While I was fine using QWERDF for Tide/Lion (most played initially), I did shit when I tried mirana. By the time I got used to mirana, I was having problem with CM. Basically, you will need to play each hero a few times to get used to QWERDF on that hero. Right now, I do not find QWERDF any problematic on any hero. At the same time, I am fine with legacy hotkeys while playing Dota1. I guess my brain got used to the link between QWERDF and graphics. I'm saying this because when I tried QWERDF on Dota1, things went shit

i dont see how either legacy or qwer is superior to the other
i like legacy keys since they make alot of sense, and is unique to each hero, i got tiny hands and use f1-f6 for items, dont see how qwer is easier to use number keys |

So you have Q for hero focus A still okay for attack S,D,F still reachable. W E R T actually has no disadvantage compared to Q W E R. Many pro fps players also use ESDF which translates to WERT in Dota. |

I play DotA from Jan 2008, and it took me just one game with each hero to get used to QWER..

It shouldn't even take hours.Seriously though any normal person can see what the hotkeys are once and do fine from then on unless you have a lot of user error when it comes to using a keyboard. |

Play around with it in single player.
For me, I never played Lina in quite some time. So after one long, frustrating game of hitting the wrong keys, I am now stuck on QWER for Lina. Which ain't that bad really. For other heroes though... Like Pudge, who I've played countless games in D1 as... The change was very difficult. THE THING IS, IT'S NOT HARD TO RELEARN THE KEYS. But it will depend on the hero, which skills are used most often, how much you played them, etc. Fof Windrunner, I NEED legacy. WERF --> QWER is way too damn confusing. But say for Lina, DT?G --> QWER was easy enough. I think the easiest way to change over would be to practice impulse play for 30min in single player. This is the same way I learned Invoker keys. Meteor! EEWR, D! Follow with def blast, QWER+B! etc. Somehow changing my T skillshot button for Pudge is a lot harder since like I said I played him so much. But it is possible to unlearn your habits. |

What I like about QWER is that you can then bind stuff to lots of other keys instead of worrying about hotkey conflicts. I do QWEDFR for abilities, t for upgrade, c for select other, x for sticky buy, j/n for autoattack on/off, etc. With legacy keys if you want to hotkey more stuff you have to put it on harder-to-reach keys unless you want to change them around for each hero.

I don't really understand why anyone wouldn't use QWER. It's simpler, you don't have your fingers scrawled all over your keyboard. It just...makes sense.

Except that some people like me use our own keys instead of QWER (I use SDFG). Someone saying 'use Q' means jack shit to me. Just use the name, then there is no possibility of confusion.
