Default [FEATURE] Observer/Sentry Wards


I suggest an extra function to Observer and Sentry Wards which is auto-pings whenever an enemy hero appears within their sight range (like how you manually Alt+Click minimap). I think this can be coded by a 'sight of enemy hero' triggering 'ping'.

To prevent massive amounts of pinging within a short duration, a cooldown should be implemented, say 10 seconds. After pinging, a ward can only ping again after 10 seconds.

This is currently being done manually by players, so by implementing an auto-function, it helps the gameplay overall. It's not imbalanced because both teams can do so, and it just eases the map alertness function for both teams.

Also, make it so it so spacebar is set to the ping location as well.

I just scanned through, there is no sight of enemy. But you can ping.
I would make the ward have an 1800 range attack that only attacks heroes and whenever they are attacked, ping, add them to a cooldown group, wait 5 seconds, remove them from that group.

Unless I'm really inefficient like most people say and there is a better way of doing.

2. If it is, does it mean that it will be seen only by you, or the whole team?

1. Yes it will PING you and everybody in the team just like a normal player PING.
2. It's not pointless because it eliminates the ALT+CLICK that player needs to manually do every time they see a hero and it's 100% guaranteed ping without player forgetting to ping.

What if all 5 heroes get into that area at the same time, will there be 5 pings?

T-up. Even with wards, we sometimes miss enemy heroes revealed or entering the area. So this will be a decent implementation.

Im absolutely against it. Just because you got wards, shouldnt mean that the enemy team is forbid to ever gang you again. This would also apply to your team, effectively making the game boring. T-Down

Yes you are correct, just because I've got wards, it doesn't mean that the enemy team cannot gank my team. They can still do it, nothing is stopping them. Besides, wards don't let you see the whole map, there are still spots that are missed, except if you ward everywhere, but who wards everywhere anyway?? Again, if there's actually somebody who wards everywhere, isn't it still helps my team from being ganked?

I think you missed the point. Pinging the location of a VISIBLE enemy is not BORING. The extra feature is just to give wards more value for gold, thereby encouraging players to ward.

I didnt miss the point at all, you misunderstood my point though. I didnt say pinging the location is boring, that feature would be quite nice actually.
I meant it would take away the tension of the metagame and therefore making the GAME boring. Automating does not fit here.

Pinging for Observer Wards should be enough. I don't think there is a need for Auto-Alt-Click.

this should be implemented, but the wards can be toggled to auto ping or not. secondly, there should be limits on how often can the wards ping. such as once, every 10 seconds to prevent insane pinging..

There is a difference between increasing usability (reducing the effort needed to play) and reducing difficulty (reducing the skill needed to play).

I'm all for increasing usability since having to check things a lot is a pain, but this would also make it far easier to deal with your enemies. Currently they can slip right past someone who isn't paying attention to the minimap at that very moment, but that won't happen very often anymore with this change. I don't really like that.
