Default [INTERFACE] Split Shot


An Interface Fix

This is more of a fix than a suggestion. Whenever Split Shot gets activated on Medusa, an icon appears above where Mana Shield's icon currently is (bottom right picture). This icon serves no purpose other than to show the player that Split Shot is activated, but a better alternative is simply to remove the icon and replace the Split Shot icon with the engine BTNCancel.blp icon to show that Spilt Shot is activated.

Codability is not an issue; you can simply put the dummy ability in a spellbook and disable the spellbook. This causes the icon to not show.

Misc.

For those who dislike the cancel icon, kirb has made another deactivation icon for Spilt Shot:



It would also be nice to replace Mana Shield's cancel icon with BTNCancel, since almost all spells in DotA have the standard cancel icon as a deactivation icon. This is, however, not part of this suggestion, and I'll leave that to IceFrog and his team to decide whether or not this is best for the game.

Well, the problem is that this icon is actually needed since Medusa gets the Barrage ability to allow this split shot.
The only way I could think of would be to replace it with an "invisible" icon, but you would still see it when holding your mouse over it (a tooltip without text).

Still, I T-Up this. Might not be perfect, but it's definitely cleaner.

You can make the icon easily invisible. How? You maybe know the ladder item called 'Spellbook' it contains 3 abilities. Just create a new Spellbook ability, edit the spells inside to Splitshot (this you wanna hide) change max and min spell numbers to 1 and finally DISABLE the spellbook ability via triggers. You an't see/click it anymore, but still the passiv works.

I heard of it, but I did not know how it works.

Seeing as Split Shot is a very old ability, it must've been made before the spellbook workaround was discovered. Newer abilities like Shapeshift and Leap all add new abilities to get certain of the skill'sl effects and they all use the Spellbook workaround to hide these abilities.

All the more reason to implement this fix--there's no reason Split Shot shouldn't be updated.

BTW for your afternote, Mana Shield already uses its own unique 'deact' icon so there's not much need for changing it

THe problem with your work around is when medusa has an illusion and split shot is activated. Take note that illusions benefit from Split shot and mana shield. How will it be indicated on illusions...Better yet just make the icon into passive icon on the control button position it is placed.
