It does not make you magic immune. Biggest difference is pure damage (e.g. Timber Chain): Magic immune units are immune to pure damage, but even 100% MR won't reduce pure damage by a bit.
The other way around for mixed damage (e.g. Techies' Land Mines): Magic immunity has no influence on mixed damage, but 100% MR will reduce any mixed damage to 0.

Also, non-ultimate disables can't target a magic immune unit, but they can target a 100% MR unit.

TL;DR: No, it doesn't make you magic immune. Yes, you take no "magical" damage.

Magic immunity
- can't be target of non-ult spells in the first place
- no damage received from MAGIC and PURE damage spells

100% magic resistance
- still able to get hit by every single spell
- no damage received from only MAGIC damage.

Magic Immunity
- can't be targetted by most non-ult "normal" spells
- magic damage completely ignored
- pure damage completely ignored
- mixed damage damages normally based off of your spell resist and armor

100% magic resistance
- still able to get hit by every single spell (that would normally be able to hit you)
- magic damage reduced to 0
- mixed damage reduced to 0
- pure damage damages normally
I fixed a bunch of stuff for you
