Default [ANIMATION] Scream of Pain

Introduction

Scream of Pain badly needs an overhaul. It's a powerful nuke that is very badly represented by soundless, feeble green missiles lightly hitting affected enemies.



A Scream of Pain

This represents pain so much better. It does away with the translucent green missiles and the feeble blue effect that plays on the QoP's feet:



And its pretty easy to do too! The effect is an imported model that you can download here (5 kb).

Also, play the death animation of the effect Abilities\\Weapons\\MurgulMagicMissile\\MurgulMagi cMissile.mdl on the "head" of all affected units. This replaces the green missiles that shows who gets hit.

Sounds

Currently, the Queen of Pain already has a sound effect that plays with the spell. It is Units\\Undead\\Banshee\\BansheeDeath.wav. What I'm suggesting for this sound is to have it be played at a pitch of 1.2, instead of its current pitch of 1. This makes the sound more shrill and fitting to the theme of QoP. (Original suggestion from Cigaro)

A testmap is attached below for those who want to hear and see the new effects!

Miscellaneous

Scream of Pain's missiles are removed in this suggestion, so it would be good (IMO) if the spell was recoded to become a proper AoE spell (instant damage, hits all units in AoE). As it is based off Fan of Knives now, it doesn't hit invisible units and units that the QoP does not have vision of, which makes no sense at all considering it's a scream.

There is a testmap here if you want to check it out in live action. Note that a glitch in the map causes the sound effect of Scream of Pain to not play on the first cast, but subsequent casts play the sound effects just fine.

QoP's current scream is probably sentient or something, that's why it can choose targets instead of acting like a blanket AoE spell.
Terresquall is a Cosmetic genius, I support this too.

It's Terrasquall, so purely visual I believe since he knows his stuff I'm guessing the size of the taunt effect will be changed a bit to fit the actual AoE, whatever it is.

You know, this topic on DA inspired me to create my own SoP effect. You can check it out in my signature. I like this very well, but like I already mentioned in my Topic, I dislike the Banshee Death sound for this skill. It fits better to Akasha's Ulti because it sounds 'stronger', too strong for a normal ability. I think a nice sound effect for this skill could be Assassin Death (I'm not sure if it is the right name but I'm talking about Lanaya's Death sound) with a higher pitch. Anyway, T-up.

Hey Terre, why don't you just import all your suggestion from the old DA forum here? I've only seen a handful that made the crossover.

I do have intentions to bring quite a handful of suggestions from the old DA forums over here. The reason why I don't simply "port" them over is because I feel that most of them still have room for improvement, and I'm trying to find ways to improve upon each of them before I post them here.

Looking at some of my older suggestions, I was surprised at how lacking some of them actually were. A good visual suggestion isn't all about flashy lights and explosions, which was all I was making back then. Consideration has to be given to its impact on the game's experience (will it cause lag? Will it clutter the screen? Will it mislead players?) and whether the coding involved is stable. Very simply put, I'm making sure that all suggestions that I make over here are not only appealing, but also able to be implemented after technical aspects have been considered.

For me it is quite ok. Compare with the current animation, the current one looks more pure, and the one you suggesting looks like a roar animation[just blue colour]. How if combine both? Change the current animation of scream of pain to blue and + with this effect? Wow. Looks more epic.

But on the other hand if you implement a fast AoE visual the skill would effect instantly. With the current visual you still "see" (sometimes :P) that the skill is going to hit you and you have the opportunity to blink/heal/eatcookies before you get hit by the spell!

You should maybe implement a blue wave or sth heading for the victims.

Already used on lion? Lion's attack projectile is a red bone head with horns (the same as his staff's head)

Yes this is a very nice visual change done by the master of cosmetic changes! I support this one! Way to go Terresquall!

And the green projectile can now be used for her attack animation as was said by Henry.
