How to get a Signature and Avatar

Quick Guide:

1) Go to the "User CP"
2) Under "Setting and Options", in the left column, you will see "Edit Avatar" and "Edit Signature".

Detailed Guide:

A) Ok just under our banner which is at the top of the page you will see a few things such as "FAQ, Search, Log Out, etc" click on the "User CP" link.

B.) After you enter this link their will be a lot of text all over the place but really you just need to pay attention to the column on the left for now. There are a few sections in this column, which are "Messenger, Subscriptions, Personal Profile and Options." Look under the section in this column that says "Setting and Options" and click on the link in that section that says "Edit Signature" to edit your signature or click on the link that says "Edit Avatar Settings" to edit the Avatar.

How to set an Avatar

1) After going through the first two steps and clicking on the "Edit Avatar Settings" in part two, you will have a page that has your current avatar shown as well as two other options so you can put others.

2) Now bring go to this page and sign up for an account: Photobucket. After signing up for an account you will have to go into your Album. To enter your album simply log on, on the front page and click on the blue lets that say "My Album".

3) After you click on "My Album" you will get a page that has a few things on it such as "Add Pictures, Add Sub Album, Picture, Description, etc." To the right of the Picture space there will be a button that says "Browse..." click on this and select the picture that you want to set as your Avatar from your computer and click on the button entitled "Open" on the browser that pops up.

4) After clicking this the space after the word "Picture" should be filled with something like this "C:\Documents and Settings\Wivot\My Documents\My Pictures\Cat_Surrender.jpg". Once you get this you click on the button just below the "Picture" area that says submit.

5) After you click this you should have your page reload with the picture below the box with all the information in it. You will have a few sections underneath it entitled "Url, Tag and Img", highlight the text in the "Url" area and copy it.

6) Then go back to the area on this forum that was explained in step one of this process. Go to the section at the bottom of the page that says "Your image avatars" and in the area next to the text that says "Enter a URL to an online avatar image" place the Url that you copied from the photobucket album and paste it here.

7) Now click on the button that says "Save Changes".

Congratulations you have just given yourself an Avatar.

How to add a Signature

Now onto giving yourself a signature, which will appear under your text in every one of your posts. Please make sure to not pick a huge picture or a staff member will remove it.

Ok now onto how to put in a signature.

Refer to step b above and instead of clicking on the area that says "Edit Avatar Settings" in the section "Personal Profile", click on the link that says "Edit Signature" which is just about the avatar link.

Repeat steps 3-5 which are explained above, make sure to copy the text in the url area from the picture you want to add into your signature and not your avatar picture.

c) After you click on the link that says "Edit Signature" it will bring up a page that has two sections on it which are entitled: "Your current Signature, Edit your signature."

d) Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see a white text box, which has a few buttons and such above it. Click in the area provided and type something like this: [IMG]http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b116/Wivot/Bacon.png[ /IMG] (your code will have no space between the [ and the / )

e) Once you have this in your signature you click on the button that says "Save Signature" which is at the bottom of the page.

TA-DA you now have both a signature and an avatar.

Imageshack.com (This walkthrough will be using the free image hosting)

Ok well I posted one for photobucket.com and I am now bored and I shall up-date it to have imageshack.com as well.

A) After going to the URL "imageshack.com" (typed without the ") you will come to this page, click on the link that is highlighted in red.

B.) After you click on that link scroll down to the bottom of the page that pops up and you will find a text bar and a Browse button. Click on the browse button and choose the picture you want and hit open.

C) Ok now you will get a bunch of text in the text box and you will now want to press the button on the bottom of the page that says "Up-load Image".

D.) Now you will have a bunch of text boxes under your up-loaded image. You will want to copy the one that says "To send this image to friends and family, copy and paste this code:".

E) Now follow the previous steps in either the above sig area (steps C - E) or the avatar area above (steps 6 - 7).

Imageshack.us (This walkthrough will be using the free image hosting)

A) After going to the URL "imageshack.com" (typed without the ") you will come to this page, click on the link that is highlighted in red.

B.) After you click the button that was mentioned in step A. It will bring this up and you will find the picture you want to load in. And then click "Open". (Which will be without the " )

C) Then click "host it!" (Which will be without the " ) and the image will be hosted. The button is highlighted in red in this picture.

D.) Now copy the URL given that is highlighted in red in this picture.

As I said before this is just to help members who need a little push in the right direction. I know there is an FAQ and I would appreciate it if you stopped posting it. This guide is basically if a member still does not get it and needs help on how to do it, trust me I have seen it happen.

Regardless I have a quick question about linking within signatures. Are we allowed to have links to dota portal? My signature has a link to my hero idea at Dota Portal. Can I keep it or off with its head?

Yes, I believe that is allowed. For now, operate as usual unless someone on the forum hierarchy tells you otherwise.

great guides, but i don't prefer imageshack, i prefer photobucket, due to imageshack image deletes after half months.
