Default [Cosmetic] Vengeful Spirit


Hello PD forums. I have been out for a while and I am about to dive back into schoolwork for a bit. But before I go, I wanted leave some cosmetic changes for Vengeful Spirit. All of these suggestions can be taken individually or as a group. I think any of them could be implemented. Without further ado, let me begin:

1) Vengeful Spirit's Model - I am not a fan of the current model because it has no animation and the portrait doesn't move when you give Venge commands. So I am changing it to the Campaign Night Elf Sentry and giving it a small tint and transparency. Here's a screenie of my proposed model for each color:



I think that the transparency working on the Team Color clothes works much better for Venge and gives her a more ethereal nature.

2) Venge throwing herself - Venge's missile sucks. She throws herself. So I made a two part change. First, I changed her missile to the Devour Magic missile so she has a regular attack (this could be changed to pretty much anything though). More importantly, I changed Magic Missile. Now it is this:

Castigate



Punishes an enemy by sending a vengeant spirit to torment the target. The spirit rushes and attacks the target, dealing damage and stunning it temporarily.

Here's a screenie of the spirit flying at an Ogre Magi:



A little more fitting than Magic Missile imo.

3) Nether Swap - Nether Swap has a nice animation. A bolt of purple lightning to indicate the switch. But Dark Seer's Vacuum was recently changed to give time to the movement to make it more visually helpful. I think that Venge could deserve this as well, so I made a cosmetic for Swap that actually Swaps the units. There is about a .5 travel time at max level and the travel time depends on the distance. Here's a screenie of a Swap:





As you can see, the units swap positions in a more interesting way. This is not impeded by units or trees. You will end up at the final location regardless of the objects in the way. It will be able to destroy trees along the way to prevent bugs however. It can also be changed to have a static travel time if it is believe to be needed.

Finally I have a test map for this (not surprise there I guess) so you can play around with the changes. If you have any comments about what I can do to improve the cosmetics, please let me know.

Please remember that each change can be done independently of each other and are not intermittently linked.

i dunno, i say stick with magic missle BUT i like the new swap suggestion and the model change as well. just remove the RAWWWR from the swap.

no opinion yet, but you need to attach the red lightning thingy in her weapon as the usual sentry doesn't have it.

T-Up for Nether Swap Anima, but without Wave of Terror Sound :S

The current model of venge it's ok for me, attack projectile and Magic Missle too.. T-null for these.

Thanks for support. Removing the sound is easy to do by playing a sound and then destroying it so the game won't play a sound for the Howls.

I can't add the lightning orb to her weapon because there is no attachment point where it will go. Its very irritating as it was the first thing I tried. In addition, because of the model's transparency and tint, the orb will be a messed up color. I will try to find a better solution when I have a chance.

@Lycan: I don't have anything to record it with on this computer. If I find time I'll try to get around to it but thank you for your offer in either case.

T-up!

Two comments though:
The sound used by swap is already used by her armor reduction skill. I wouldn't mind if there was no sound at all, maybe just a "woosh" sound.

Maybe change Castigate to "Torment" and rather than just sending the spirit to them and then having it abruptly disappear, give it a very fast "attacking" animation for the duration of the stun. I hope that makes sense, feel free to ask me a question.

whats wrong with the "weapon" point?

its too high or something? you could ask someone to edit the model so it will be a bit off and so in the right place.

@babohtea: Actually, the spirit does attack the target. It distinctly swings its blade. Try the test map to see it. The name is irrelevant to me.

@doomsday: Nope, "weapon" point is not the center of the blade, its a little bit on one of the sides and looks very awkward as a result. Here's the best I could do with a "hand,right" attachment:



If someone could move the weapon point to the center of the blade, that would be perfect.

I will try to work on removing the Howl sound since its obvious that it should be changed.

Oh no, I meant keep the spirit projectile rather than just having it disappear. Currently, the spirit takes a swing and then dissipates, I was hoping that the spirit could keep on taking swings adjacent to the target while he/she was stunned.

Oh I see. That's also easy to do I guess. It might be visually cluttering though.

EDIT: I'm having trouble getting rid of the sound actually, so what about I change the effect to something else? I was thinking of the death animation of Devour Magic (the proposed missile's animation when it hits a unit).

I think it is a clear T-up, BUT the icon for the Stun Spell you posted is really ugly. I like the one you used in the game. I love, that the thrown missile plays attack animation, but I think it lacks a good sound. T-up on the model change, too. New Model has a spell animation, unlike current. Nether swap looks strange when casted on low range.
Could it be, that you use Terrain Manager City??^^

It can be partially done, again if the model can be altered so that the weapon point is in a more appropriate place, it is in the bag.
