Foreword:

You have seen of course many people failing this hero in publics or anywhere else. They almost did the same mistake. They started wrong had a bad item build and went solo. First of all Enigma is one of the greatest supporter and jungler in DotA I have seen. The way you skill him gives you already advantages or
disadvantages for the game. If he's played right, he is even higher than solo mid heroes.

How does Enigma work?

Well, Enigma has 1 farming and 3 supporter skills. The needed Skill for Woods is called

Demonic Conversion

You turn an enemy neutral unit immediatly to Gold and get 3 summoned units which tank for you. Note this skill only effects lvl 4 and lower creeps. Use it on the level 4 unit if possible. Wicked Farming and Leveling works because of this skill.

Malefice

By repeating Ministuns you disable enemy heroes from running away and deal massive damage in addition with your attacks from your hero + the Eidolons ones. Your main ambushing/support skill.

Black Hole

This skill was leading to Triple Kills by totally disabling enemy units (even magic immunes) in the affected area. Use this skill in combination with a dagger to initiate the fight.Before you begin casting ur ult make sure to cast Midnightpulse in order to increase ur damage output

Midnightpulse

A nasty Aoe spell that can also be used for escape by killing trees or an aggressive factor to increase your damage in combination with Black Hole. Like the ult of lich in bnet this ability also affects magic immune units.

Where can you find him?

Till level 5-7 you can meet him in Woods and have nice conversation with him and his eidolons family. If he isn't visited till that he will feel lonely and supply his want being social. That means GANKING TIME. Not counting on enigma, the opponent mid hero will be surprised if you approach from behind. Good timing togheter with your allied mid hero will grant first blood I m sure. In woods he uses his spawns to tank for him. A clever guy. Start ganks being at least lvl 4 due to the way of skilling him. When stepping on lane convert a foe meatwagon and malefice on the ganked victim all you now need to do id right click your foe with your eidolons family.

You re in the forest in the main part of the early game. You will need somebody who tanks the creeps for you.

NOTE: Why the hell don't you skill ult at 6, noob? Because malefice in combination with demonic conversion drains too much mana so that I would be immediatly oom.
Just don't use malefice or Demonic Conversion and use Black Hole only!
Why should I waste a 200 sec cd spell when the 2 other spells are
already enough to kill somebody. Shouldn't I rather save it for really needed situations? In my opinion Black Hole is only needed in big team fights later or to save your ass when you are running away from bounty e.g. and kill him at tower with your ult. In most cases if you use ult while a little gang your allys will probably notice too late that you already casted Black Hole.

What to purchase?

In dependence to the skill level (Pick League, Clanwars or similiar) I recommend Observer wards and a crow. In pubs you rather don't need them beacuse it s unlikely that you are ambushed in woods. Else get as many clarity potions as possible and 2 Ironwoodbranches(in -ap) or Circlet of Nobility(in -pick). Through his gr8 farming abilitys he is THE hero for being Wards Bitch.

After having used all the potions you should have farmed about ~1750 gold or even more. Move to the secret shop and purchase
RoH(Ring of Health) and Void Stone

It's a good investion to recover your mana and health fast if you are ganked in the jungle. Continue your unstoppable farm and help your ally occasionally at bottom lane(sentinel) and top lane(scourge) respactively. To see what I mean you find a link to a replay of mine which shows how to play enigma. Unfortunatly the game only took 30 minutes so I couldnt reach end farm.

The Core Stuff that is required:

Necromanicum Archer and Warrior deal about 200 damage/sec togheter. Necromanicum casted togheter with your ult wracks havoc.Your foe will lose overview and kill the warrior accidentally --> freekill. 9% ms and as bonus make life easier to chase a hero espacially invis ones. Necromanicum also known as "free-gem" is also useful in fighting antagonistic observer wards. Never mis getting this item ASAP. Activating phase and necro togheter grants you 440 ms which is quite a lot.

Explanations
In most cases I don't need a dagger to place my ult right. I don't rush in them. I let them rush into me. I recommend dagger in games enemys have many disabler (e.g. Rhasta, Atrapos, Earthshaker,Lion,Tiny,Alchemist) A lothars is the right choice then.
What's the benefit of daggering in and start the fight when you are the first who will die. Your allys will need at least 1,5 seconds till they have reached you. That's almost the half of the ult. Remember: black hole has 180 sec CD a fucking long duration!! Well it looks cool to have dagger in the inventory. But what happens if you blinked in to pull 4 enemys in the ult when there is a 5th guy that immediatly stuns you? Yes, you re fucked then. Another situation. You get bloodraged and ruptured by Bloodseeker. Dagger isn't useful in such situation. Imagine you spend that money on Boots of Travel instead. Boots of Travel would have saved your life then.

Another thing I really want to mention because it's important to me. NEVER EVER WASTE YOUR GOLD ON BKB!(black king bar). Does enigma look like a carry? He's a supporter. If you want to boost your survivability purchase a Heart instead. 3900 gold can be spent in other things. If you waste your money on bkb you are magic immune but no tank = dead after 5 attacks. If you are a tank you won't need magic immunity anymore. My advice to you: Buy armor and health. Better get a lothars to 100% land your ultimate. If you caught them without lothars you active it while casting which avoids you being the target of aiming spells like Leos Hellfire Blast etc. If you spent your money on dagger and bkb you will have a massive lag of mana. You re a discentive to your enemys when they see you having activated it.All of them will split and run away till your buff faded away. A lil scarab of weaver or ward could detect your purpose which leads your blackhole getting a fail. You Bkb is useless then! I know many people have another opinion consider buying a bkb or not. This is just a personal statement.

Mistakes:
People farm too long. Let the carrys farm and help your mates. Babysit the solo laner to have a strong startup.

People only gang when they have their ult. Stun eidolons and midnight pulse are alrdy enough for a little gang.

Wasting Black Hole!
You' re ganging 3 on riki. Nobody has dust and riki is stunned by some1. You don't know if he got hit by it and use ur ult at the place he was stunned. Pls dont do such a crap
