This is my first guide here on Play DotA, and it will exclusively be on my favorite hero-Darkterror, the Faceless Void. Starting out with Carrion Swarm, Bash, Evasion and Time Stop, Faceless Void has grown into the current Faceless Monster that we know nowadays.

Faceless Void is a melee agility hero. Just like most agility heroes he is born to be a DPS machine. What makes him unique from many other DPS'ers is the ability to bash. This allows him to, with items of course, almost permanently stun lock or 'perma bash' his desired target to death.

Faceless Void also has an utility spell, named Time Walk. This grants him the ability to to chase escape, initiate, juke and do a few more things like a god.

Backtrack is another one of Faceless Void's arsenals, allowing him to dodge any, I repeat, any damage.

Finally, Faceless Void also possesses Chronosphere, a quite huge AOE disable/stun/freeze/pause. However, this is probably the most unique spell in the game. It disables everything!!! Yes that includes your allies, towers etc. This skill when combined with Time Walk allows the Faceless Void to kill a hero and escape without taking any damage.

But wouldn't that result in him being an imbalanced hero?

Actually, not at all. Faceless Void isn't even close to being imbalanced.

Let's take a look at his stats first. He's fragile, has a rather bad agility gain and poor intelligence. But stats don't have such a big impact on game play, do they?

His main weakness however is that, Faceless Void has an incredibly challenging early game. Possessing no nuke at all, no healing spell or the like, Faceless Void has to suffer. Nukes dominate the most early game, and as mentioned earlier, well you don't have one. You have Time Walk but all it does is get you to safety. Then what? It doesn't provide any regeneration to stay in the lane or something similar. You could rely on Backtrack, but sadly it's to some extent, luck based. Fortunately, you do have insanely high base damage to ensure many last hits, still you have to accept the fact that you're melee and will lose the phase.

All this sums up to, that you're more of a late gamer. Never forget that you still have decent mid game potential.

Now, let's have some analysis. Facelessv Void basically specializes at dispatching of targets one by one. He somehow needs to separate his victim from the enemy team, and that's exactly why Chronosphere is there. Furthermore, he needs to keep up with his target and Time Walk and Time Lock are there to aid you as well.

Now that you know how much destruction and chaos you can cause later on, why would people let you? They'll constantly gank you and keep you their prime target to hinder your progress. But guess what? You have Time Walk to evade ganks, and if things get too sticky, Chronosphere.

Faceless Void is by no doubt a carry. Incredible hero killing power, great survivability and a huge AOE disable which allows you to take out key heroes first. As a carry you need to keep up with your target, Time Walk and Time Lock are there. You will be constantly ganked, Time Walk and Chronosphere are there to aid ya as well. Can out carry other carries really easily, check.

Faceless Void is also a natural initiator with Time Walk and Chronosphere. There's absolutely no reason not to initiate with it(unless it's early-mid game). Chronosphere allows you take down the key points first(disablers, rival carry, etc).

Faceless Void can ALSO be played as an utility hero if proffered, in which case you would mainly focus around Chronosphere. Though, I won't really encourage it, it's still a viable way to play him.

Faceless Void skill is very versatile, and doesn't have much impact on his game play actually. I will list the two main skill builds, and always remember that everything can change according to situations.

Primary builds

There are various item builds that can work on Faceless Void, and I will some of the most effective ones.

The cookie-cutter carry build

Focuses mainly on using Time Lock and Chronosphere to their full potential. This build focuses on a pure carry, making you a machine of destruction.

The 'Alternate' carry build

Pretty much the same build as the cookie-cutter build, instead this one focuses on a different item choice.

The 'Illusion Powerhouse' build

This build is rather odd, focusing on Manta Style illusions, which can be very devastating during Chronosphere.

Note: I haven't tried this build much, but I can say that it works really well.

The 'Utility' Faceless Void

The best boots for Faceless Void are obviously Power Treads. I don't think I need to give any explanations but...

____

They grant attack speed, the primary element on Faceless Void. The bonus attribute is also inviting, I prefer agility, though strength is also a fine choice. Put them to intelligence to play a little trick.

____

Totally trash, Faceless Void doesn't need the active due to Time Walk serving the same purpose, and the attack speed from Power Treads outweigh the bonus damage from Phase Boots.

____

The most expensive and almost completely useless boots for Faceless Void. The price tag seems ugly, and the benefits from Power Treads render these trash. Even late game, I would think a million times before swapping my Power Treads for these.
