1. Introduction
If you don’t know anything about the Invoker, this guide is NOT FOR YOU. Please refer to a more basic guide.

Many people want to play the Invoker. This is not surprise because he is very fun to play. However, he is also one of the most difficult to play—right up there with Chen. It takes a lot of practice to get the hang of his spell system. It takes even more time to know which spells are needed when. Even though I’ve been playing Invoker for a long time, I am still learning new strategies.

He is a very adaptable hero and each game requires an assessment to determine which build to use.

This guide is for those who already have a feel for Kael and want to become pro. Therefore, the main focus is on “pick assessment” and spell strategies and combos. Of course, I will also review some of the more basic strategy points.

My main goal is to get professional teams to pick Invoker more often and bring him more into the spotlight.

2. Pros and Cons
Pros
- Highly adaptable to allied & enemy picks and to game progression
- High MS with Wex
- Great disabling spells

Cons
- Paper hero
- Easily countered by Silence
- Unforgiving to mistakes

3. Stats, Skills, and Spells

4. Skill Builds

The Summoner (side preferred or solo)
Build capitalizes on early Alacrity for lane control. Sun Strike is also available to you early on. 4 levels of E are taken before switching to Q to setup dual Forged Spirit and exploit Alacrity as much as possible. Q is finished first because Ice Wall is the Summoner’s signature spell (along with Spirits). W is finished before E because it is more useful lategame (+MS, Attack Silence of Blast, Tornado distance).

The Hasty Wizard (side or solo)
Most supportive build. You can get 1-2 more levels of E at the start to boost Alacrity. This does postpone maxing EMP and MS. If you find that your lane is difficult, then do get level 2 (and maybe 3) E. At any rate, finish W first. Being able to move around so quickly makes you support easily. EMP can totally discourage enemy pushes and also win battles. Tornado travels very far (3100 with L7W) and scouts VERY WELL. I often find myself flinging off Tornados into the woods and finding the gank squad. Q is finished after W because Ice Wall is more important lategame. Scouting Spirits are possible as they don’t decay so fast at like L3-4Q.

The Battlemage (mid solo preferred)
This is the build most people don’t know about. It can turn games into a complete stomp… or it can backfire. It exploits Alacrity TO THE MAX. Not only are you unstoppable by any enemy laner (in terms of CS and harassing), but you can also gank. And when I say gank, I mean DOUBLE KILL. At level 7-8, with your Alacrity, Meteor and power tread, you literally tear it up in your ganks. Your team is going to be supporting YOU while you hit uber hard. Sun Strike will usually nab you a few leftovers. It’s important to note that, although this high, relative-to-the-enemy DPS persists quite late into the game, Invoker needs to switch gears and bring out his other spells eventually. Max E first (W at 10), then finish W. In some cases, you might finish Q before W (depends on which will be more useful @ lategame).

5. Item Builds
Here are the lists of items that go with the different skill builds. Sadly, I cannot give you exact item builds because each game is different. I tried my best to put at the top of the list the items that I liked most.

-Chicken
-Tangos or Healing Salve
-Guantlets or Circlets or Branches

The Summoner
*Initiation*
-Blink Dagger
-Euls

*Protection*
-Mek
-Ghost Scepter
-Hood or Pipe

-Boots of Travel

*Late Game*
-Agnims
-Guinsoo or Shivas

The Hasty Wizard (pretty straightforward)
-Boots of Travel
-Euls
-Agnims
-Skadi or Guinsoo or Shivas

The Battlemage (also pretty straightforward)
-Power Treads (str) *preferred
or
-Boots of Travel + Orchids
-HotD (after upgrading boots) + Centaur or Troll… Wolf just dies
-Agnims
-Guinsoo
-Satanic
-Buriza

Special Item Mention: Agnims… this item is HIGHLY recommended in any game.
Special Point: you need tons of mana lategame during pushes, battles, or defensive battles.

6. Strategy
Here's a TDA I played last night to give you a feel for all the stuff you are trying to learn: Download Replay
