THE GUIDE OF CHAOS KNIGHT OF...CHAOS!?


I. INTRODUCTION!!!

*This part isnt too important, but perhaps some of you like to know your reading the guide of a legitimate person who isn't well...legitimate? my name is taejun, but on garena i play on too many names to count. i have played public games and several TDA matches on battlenet for a good year or so, and am currently attempting at a team for some good competitive play. This is a guide for anyone ranging from noobs looking for a solid foundation to play upon, or pro's just looking for different views on their character.

II. The Hero

Chaos Knight



BACKROUND

<A disciple of Mithras, the God of Chaos, Nessaj has utilized the powers bestowed upon him to further the cause of Chaos and Evil. He stands opposed with all his might against the powers of Order and Good. He uses his ability to call upon chaotic energy to damage and stun an enemy for a random length of time in conjunction with his power to rip holes in space to instantly strike down all that stand against him. His powers culminate into the terrifying Phantasm, creating avatars of himself who do full damage to all those who oppose him, confusing the battlefield and wreaking havoc amongst the forces of Good.>

?!! HIS PLAYING STYLE !!?

-I think chaosknight is a very versatile hero that can be used in a variety of ways, but most effective to me as a ganker. you can see him being used in pubs pushing to the never end, and even in competition where used correctly can be a deadly thing for the enemy to deal with. a 4 second stun is nothing to be taken lightly. where in this guide anyone may stray from it and not follow it word for word, for the sake of the guide i say he is a ganker and late game semi-carry.

III. SKILLS & STATS

-Notes:his stats at least in my opinion , are rather fragile although his strength gain is ok, but if you'll notice his int(intelligence) is HORRID not to mention his god awful agility making his attack speed non existent. but all these are solved throughout the game so dont fret!

SKILLS

-Chaos Bolt



A mysterious energy bolt is thrown at an enemy. It stuns for a random amount of time from 1-4 seconds.

-Deals random damage between 1-200.
ACTIVE

lvl 1 : 1-2 seconds stun, Deals 1-200 damage
lvl 2 : 1-3 seconds stun, Deals 1-200 damage
lvl 3 : 1-4 seconds stun, Deals 1-200 damage
lvl 4 : 2-4 seconds stun, Deals 1-200 damage
manacost(140) on all levels cooldown(10 seconds) on all levels

-Notes: this skill is AMAZING!! its potential of a possible 4 second stun is simply outrageous, which is what helps you to fulfill your important role as a ganker. dont let the 1 second look diminish your hopes, for later on 2 seconds is the minimum and is still very good. (also yes 1-200 damage is wack...imagine a 1damage stun!?! but trust me its the time thats more important)

-Blink Strike



Teleports to a unit and strikes it if it is a foe, dealing bonus damage.
ACTIVE

lvl 1 :casting range:700, deals 30 xtra bonus dmg to target unit
lvl 2 :casting range:700, deals 60 xtra bonus dmg to target unit
lvl 3 :casting range:700, deals 90 xtra bonus dmg to target unit
lvl 4 :casting range:700, deals 120 xtra bonus dmg to target unit --manacost(50) on all levels
-cooldown(30,20,10,5) on levels 1,2,3,4.

-Notes: omg this skill is (arguably) the best there is in dota for ganking and chasing purposes, which is exactly what our chaos knight does. It can escape ganks (blinking on a friendly unit away , or target unit for the matter) and start a gank (blinking in on the enemy, and then throwing your stun for another strike after). and as you can see, the cooldown at level 4 is only FIVE seconds! while your mana pool doesnt allow it at first, you will spam this skill alot. it is AMAZING. imagine 120 blinks over and over and over every 5 seconds

-Critical Strike



Nessaj's mojo gives him a chance to deal bonus damage.
PASSIVE ABILITY

lvl 1: 11% chance to hit 1.5x normal damage.
lvl 2: 11% chance to hit 2.0x normal damage.
lvl 3: 11% chance to hit 2.5x normal damage.
lvl 4: 11% chance to hit 3.0x normal damage.

-Notes: this skill has amazing potential for later on in the game, but honestly isnt really useful at first since our little friend has the attackspeed of a slug early game. It is very useful and great for dishing out some nice damage later on, but only after you get some items and stats in. Early game is virtually useless but still powerful all the same.


ULTIMATE -Phantasm



Summons several copies of the Chaos Knight from alternate dimensions.
=The illusions deal full damage, but take extra damage.=

lvl 1: mana cost:175, summons 1 image(s) that deal full damage but take 200%
lvl 2: mana cost:225, summons 2 image(s) that deal full damage but take 200%
lvl 3: mana cost:275, summons 3 image(s) that deal full damage but take 200%

-Notes: AN AMAZING ULTI.....later on. however during the early stages of the game (levels 1-8) it is almost useless and isnt worth taking in, but is a skill very dangerous and can be used later on to completely change the tide of a battle, a push, or a gank. One of the absolute best in the game, especially after our nice little cooldown buff

IV. PRO'S VS CON'S!!

<> so the big question is WHY should i play this character? i mean yes his skills look amazing and 4 second stuns with clones mashing around with a blink? he seems great, but with his terrible intelligence gain it seems like it can't even be used. not to mention his agility which would make his farm life just terrible. so here goes...

PROS:
-Amazing ganker
-Blink which helps chase / initiate / escape
-Not very item dependent to an extent
-One of the best ulti's of all time, amazing dmg output
-Push power what what?!
-Amazing base movement speed(fastest in the game?)

CONS:
-Fragile in the early stages of the game
-Mana pool is horrible...you throw 1 stun/blink and poof gone.
-Item dependent later on in the game to an extent
-Ulti although very good, can be easily countered

V. SKILL BUILD

-Although depending on game play and can change the circumstances requiring different skills, the most common ( in my view ) and effective , is only 1 type of build for his skills.

(explanation??): chaos bolt is the skill that really strikes fear into the hearts of your enemies, cause no one wants to be hit 200 dmg fast with a 4 second followup stun. thats a LONG time. it is your ganking friend, and blink being the 2nd skill taken and maxed for obvious reasons of escaping and chasing/lasthitting.

-QUESTION: WHY dont u get critical strike sooner??! u noob! 3.0x damage!!

<>ans: well yes that SEEMS like alot...but look at the % of it occuring, its 11% and with your attack speed, its highly unlikely to be much help in the early game where your speed is just dreadful,
-and if ure thinking WELL if u attack 10 times, its BOUND to come out!!
<>ans: trust me, early game if you manage to get 10 strikes in a row on someone without it resulting in YOUR death? kudos to your aegis or the afk body your wacking on, it probably wont happen.

-QUESTION : ok ok so critical is bad at first, but ure ulti at level TEN? oh come on its ure ulti!! everyone gets it at 6 or 7! and your getting a clone who deals THE SAME DAMAGE AS YOU! IMBA?!

<>ans: wrong! just LOOK at that mana cost!! and the cooldown! and then YOUR base mana. oh..em..gee ...way to deplete your mana all in one blow for a stinky clone who takes more damage then you and deals terrible damage just like you in the early stages? So we get it at level 10, to follwup at 11 and receive at the cost of 50 more mana, TWO clones, which at this point in time, help alot in the factors of pushing. Yes one nessaj coming to own a tower isnt so scary, or even 2. but say 3 chaos knights and for fun an illusion rune? talk about an army, ya thats some pushing power now. and of course stats are taken at ure comfort for the effort to help our poor friend and his mana pool. but criticals later on at mid game can be taken upon preference.

VI. Early game play!

-This is where chaos knight has a lots of controversial topics sprung about, because with his mana pool, although his skills are amazing in synergy, his int just doesnt allow him to spam his spells the way he wants to. and with his agility, and being a melee hero farming* is rather difficult with him at first. so you cant harass, or last hit that well so WHAT do we do?

-YOU SHOULD ALWAYS and i mean ALWAYS be at rune spots.ALWAYS!!!! they are your best friends as the *team ganker* and often result in blood because of them.
(examples): you just ganked top and have no hp or mana but your mid solo needs a gank bad. oh look a regen rune! excellent be right there you failure mid solo jk...
(example): zeus: OMFG OMFG i wasted my ulti hes at top tower with FIVE HP HOLY HELL MAN IM PISSED. oh look haste rune! ill just run up there and blink in and run off like nothing happened, and if hes running? pft hows he gonna outchase 522 ms with a stun and blink at my disposal?

-So with the knowledge of rune spots, you should lane as difficult as it may be until level THREE and PREFERABLY three. some occasions may differ as your lane is hard pressed and mid is constantly ganking for you, or other lanes are in complete domination and you leaving would be a complete and utter waste. BUT more or less, level three is good and you go GANK!!

(example) -take it that your on the sent, and your bot. once you hit level 3 u run up mid and chill for a sec, and after u go into fog you run up top (passing the rune spots) and gank top with ure blink and stun. and with any luck, and perhaps another stun or 2, that will result in kills.
-from level 3-9 , what you mainly do is just roam , not really staying in a particular lane for too long because surprise is your best ally at this point in time with ure blink+stun combo.
-starting at level 11 with your ulti now at ure disposal, things start to get a litttttle bit different

VII: THE MID GAME PLAY!!!

-this is the time where ganking starts to slow down as a single roamer, and it is time to go heal and TEAM PUSH/gank?!!

-ganking is where you shine the best, but team pushes is just another thing added to your list of * i own u kids *....list..?

-with 3 of (YOU) dealing damage, and our opponent huggin the tower without a AOE spell? your just golden pushing with your teammates, and if one should get too close to ure towers u can always blink and stun, allowing your teammates to-

A: finish the tower or

B: be frag whores and own the kid u just stunned =D

=regardless, ure a force to be reckoned with.and depending on the types of enemies you are playing, items will differ but you will be expected to have finished a few items right? If not, say your record is....0-2 with 12 assists? don't fret, then you did your job and hopefully your ganking resulted in a very underleveled carry of the other team

VII: THE END GAME!!!

-now everyone is just farmed as butt and its probably ...ill guess 30 minutes? i could be wrong but ITS LATE GAME K?!

-your days of ganking are sort of dead now, and you can NOT farm, REPEAT not FARM!! with bonus gold from ganks and kills ( which you should have gotten...hopefully) and those occasional last hits in a lane (hopefully...) you should have a decent amount of items. this is the time to completely utilize your ulti to your best. every 140 seconds you should grab your team and push a tower and back. perhaps you guys can overpush but point being, if you've got your ulti? go for the push, tell ure team. its such a great skill and you only wait for 140 seconds, push it trust me u can end towers in quick seconds with the right team (or noob enemies).

VIII. ITEMS!!


-STARTING ITEMS



BOTTLE IS THE FIRST ITEM YOU GET AND AN ABSOLUTE MUST! You're a ganker constantly roaming and running around spamming your spells like an int hero whose gone half retarded. cuz u throw 2 spells and your done lol. this is a must have for chaosknight.



PHASE BOOTS IS IMPORTANT FOR THE PHASE AND EXTRA MOVESPEED BOOST!!! As a ganker you will constantly be on the move and many times chasing those heroes down in the red. Although i liked the old armor version better, the new one does offer some much needed IAS that we can use later on very well. it is certainly a core in my opinion.



VANGAURD?!?! Now before u all flame me, vangaurd is actually a really great item for our mini tanker friend. the hp regen is always nice as you can regen from top to bot, and vice versa while on the go. The hp boost is almost essential since you are sometimes thought of as a tank , even though your FAR from it, and with the recent heart nerf, i feel this is a tank enough item for you to suffice the game.



This item should almost, if not always be a part of your final build. It offers much needed attributes with the ultimate orb and the yasha is great for even MORE movementspeed making yours...315+60+10 lol thats quite alot, but the more important part of this item is the CLONES that it offers, now your ultimate at level 3, offers you...3 clones dealing full damage, and with you thats 4 chaos knight rollin down in a rolls royce. now pretend u bottled a illusion rune, and bam its magic you have got a gangster squad of 6 rollin deep. then you decide to get fancy and do a little more hocus pocus...and BAM manta style + 2 more!!! TALK ABOUT A MINI ARMY

-Note =EVERYONE SAYS that bd is illegal and in pubs everyone rages but in all honesty, i think its a fair and good form of gameplay since it can only be done in later stages of the game. If the enemy team cant teleport back in time to stop one i see no reason for them to deserve a victory, and i start on the bd flame because your hero is simply a tower whore and bd basically screams for your hero lol. also if this appeases anybody, its done as i can see in almost all forms of competitive play. play like a pro bro

THE OPTIONAL ITEMS THAT CAN VARY!!!



Lets say its only 21 minutes in and your record is rollin a nice little 8-0 from a bunch of succesful ganks and your occasional pit stops in each different lane offers you a good amount of mayb 25-30 creep kills? i see no reason why not. The dps that early on in the game is great, your movement speed is so imba the chance of *most* heroes escaping on just their feet is....and your blinks...and stuns...? ya that is just free kills, BUT REALLY i think that should be considered as a complete pubstomp item where your positive your opponents are just horrible lol, its good but ure chance of success farming it is slim to none to be early enough for it to be effective.



Battlefury actually serves a bunch of different purposes, in the early stages its a nice mini damage boost letting you hit a bit harder, the perseverance it comes with offers more survivability and mana regen during the game. BUT what it really helps, is later on when your clones come out to play and your just busting out your 3.0x damage criticals... ya it owns. perhaps only more effective on a phantom assassin...



If ure farming a battlefury i see no reason not to get this late game as a luxury should the game continue on for so long. with battlefury and your crits? the damage , hp boost, and the amazing lfiesteal available is just great.



Diffusal blade...now this item is a bit different and his style being used...well not as effectively alone. if your team is a bunch of carries or slowers with nice dps? or just simple dps without disables, this item is actually pretty good to get as a support. lets say anti tries to gank someone but even with blink can only get a few hits off. here u come to the rescue with a blink stun, hopefully 4, and then when they think they are clear comes a diffusal blade and 2 blinks ( u and anti ) he is pretty darn dead. but mostly being for agility heroes the agility stats could go to waste, but an excellent item for helping ure team in my opinion. plus ure clones would own some mana hard.
