A Guide to Knight Davion,
the Dragon Knight

Introduction

"Dragon Knight is the most versatile strength hero having the ability to nuke and stun. With Elder Dragon Form, he is able to rip through team battles. A formidable ally to have on any team. He is played as a Semi-Carry & Tank"

Hero's Story

"Abandoned and forsaken as a child, the Half-bred Dragon Davion sought refuge from the evils of the world, and from the uncontrollable power growing within himself. His search led him to the doorstep of a mighty Druid, who taught him to tap into the massive energies that lay concealed in his blood - a tribute to his ancient Draconian heritage. A master swordsman, Davion smites his foes in his raging frenzy - transforming at will into an Elder Dragon of destructive fiery rage to crush all those that threaten to vanquish his new home."

Skill Sets and Usage of Abilities

Breathe Fire
Strategics: This is your basic farming skill. As a harassment skill, use it as the same time when you kill a creep. By doing this, enemy heroes cannot deny their own creeps and in the process get damaged.
Mechanics: Magical damage and affects mechanical units. It's AoE is shaped by a cone. Starting position is 50 AoE and ending in 250 AoE with a range of 500.

Dragon Tail
Strategics: This is your only disable and has great use with Breathe Fire. Never use this skill to engage unless you are sure the target will be eliminated or returns to their fountain giving you an easier lane to farm.
Mechanics: Melee range stun. This is the longest level 1 stun.

Dragon Blood
Strategics: As a tank, this is really help as it increases your EHP while at the same time helping to regen lost health. I am against leveling this early game. Your two active skills can net kills while Dragon Blood does not.
Mechanics: Increases health regeneration and armor.

Elder Dragon Form
Strategics: EDF has a few strategies which are to escape with improved MS or chase. In rough scenarios, EDF can turn the tides of battles simply by being intimidating.
Mechanics: Morphing time is instant. All Dragons have 315 MS and 500 attack range!
Green Dragon
Possesses Corrosive Breath which effectively slows down a unit. Unit takes DoT (takes 20 damage per second and duration 5 seconds) but does not stack. Affects Buildings.

Red Dragon
Possesses Splash Attack. The Splash deals 100% damage in a 75 AOE, 75% damage in a 150 AOE, 50% damage in a 250 AOE. Gains 5 Bonus Damage.

Blue Dragon
Possesses Frost Attack. Splash is same as Red Dragon. Frost Breath slows units for 30% movement speed and 20% attack speed, lasting 3 seconds. Gains 14 Bonus Damage.

The Skill Build with Justifications

Legendary Arc Honist:
Breathe Fire: 1,3,5,7
Dragon Tail: 2,4,8,9
Dragon Blood: 10 to 13
Elder Dragon Form: 6,15,16
Attribute Bonuses: 14,17-25

Max your active abilities first. If you can net kills early game then you can farm faster for better items. Dragon Blood will, of course, beef you up in time for mid game clashes.

Poison Dragon is taken at level 6 for its ability to become range with above average movespeed. Giving you more opportunities to net kills. The slow is negligible but significant. With Poison Dragon, you can take down towers safely from a distance as corrosive damage affects buildings.

Red Dragon is situational and based upon your team heroes. If you have AoE heroes such as Magnatuar or Enigma then it is advisable to take this at level 11 for its splash effect otherwise wait one level before Frost Dragon is available.

The Item Builds with Justifications

Strength - 19 + 2.8 | Agility - 19 + 2.2 | Intelligence - 15 + 1.7
Range: 125 (melee) | | Move Speed: 290

Dragon Knight has the potential to become the prime carry of any team. So items will be centered on him becoming that. Items will also reflect on his ultimate so damage items are recommended and because EDF increases movespeed, we will increase it further.

Empty Bottle-Crow - Complete this combination ASAP! Dragon Knight has poor mana to begin with. You will be using the Crow to replenish your Empty Bottle constantly.

Bracers/Magic Wand - Two Bracers to keep your health up and a Magic Wand to further that. These are key to your laning phase.

Radiance - This is your first major item. Immolation forces teams to focus on you so your job as a tank is complete. Radiance helps you farm a lot (better than Hand of Midas) and enables you to farm neutrals too.

Helm of Dominator>Satanic - If for some reason you die often, it might be a good idea to farm HotD. Lifesteal stacks with EDF so there are no cons to this item. Lifesteal on a ranged strength can be difficult to kill.

Some Further Items-Discussion

The items added here are more of extension items and relate to your progress in-game.

Black King Bar - Mass disables are your biggest threat. Consider getting this.

Dagger of Escape - Mainly used to pull off immediate stuns and to get in range to use your skills more efficiently. As a strength hero, this item's main use is initiation.

Sange & Yasha - Mass movespeed and attackspeed during EDF. A lot of synergy between the two. The faster you attack, the faster you can take down teams during clashes.

Buriza-do-kyanon - This item is recommended after S&Y. Criticals and Splash is not hard to imagine.

Battlefury - has the saddest combination for Dragon Knight but the fact that it provides regen and damage in one item makes it a viable option for Dragon Knight. Cleave is helpful to a Dragon Knight without EDF and this item scraps the Crow-Bottle combination.

Dragon Knight Techniques

Crow-Bottle:
Learn it and get used to it. Always have your own crow at standby in case you need a re-fill from the fountain. This is the only way to regain lost health and mana immediately for a hero who needs his farm. This promotes strong lane stability once mastered.

Dragonic Combo:
Dragon Tail and Breathe Fire are your most basic maneuvers. Simply stun a target, hit him a few times and when he goes out of range, use Breathe Fire. You can also Breathe Fire and stun at the same time if you have full mana and enough mana to spare a second Breathe Fire.

Fire-Harass:
Use Breathe Fire on dying creeps while keeping enemy heroes in range. This discourages them to deny their own creeps and at the same time, they might stay away giving you a safe time to last hit.

Fire-Farm:
Use Breathe Fire to mow down creep waves. It might take a few more hits on some creeps.

Dominate Creep:
HotD allows DK to have pets around. When you are not using pets to hunt, use them pull the creep camps while you stay in your own lane.

Dragon Knight Strategies

Laning - You might want to stay on the side lanes if you plan on having a partner or take your chance at mid. Since my skill build does not include Dragon Blood early on, you are forced to use Crow-Bottle.

Soloing - Mid is your choice of a solo lane but since my skill build does not include Dragon Blood early on, you are forced to use Crow-Bottle constantly.

Farming - Remember your first priority is Crow-Bottle. Spam your skills wisely to the point where you can make 800 gold for an upgrade and a purchase of an Empty Bottle. Farming comes easy after this. Use Breathe Fire to rice farm.

Getting Ganked - Activate EDF and try to outrun opponents. Stun the most lethal hero (stunners, slowers) if you have to. Teleport to safety afterwards.

Ganking - If the gank is nearby, join it. Whoever is near the target is going to stun first. Use Breathe Fire as a last resort, your normal attack is enough or you'll just be wasting your only long range nuke. Activate Dragon Form if it is available, it can be crucial during clashes.

Pushing - Activate EDF during tower pushes and use Breathe Fire on creeps. The idea is to clean out their creep waves so your team has more mobility than them. This also forces your own creeps to target them instead as a nuisance. The Ultimate Dragon Form slows, so if you target buildings with units near them, the splash and slow will take place.

5v5 Battles (Offensive & Defensive) – Dragon Form is the only way to defend against a push. Stick with Breathe Fire if it is still under cooldown. Since your team will be with you on this one, expect to be the first target. The only difficult they have of you is that you will be in range distance. Either they deal with you or run.
