I started off the THD playing with friends, after hearing how a buddy of mine did a real swell job supporting the Sand King he was first laning with- and later in the game- gank running and mid/ end-game all out clashes. After trying it out i could really appreciate this hero's gung-ho role of flashy and colorful demonstrations of frontal power (I Love BLASTING spells), but more importantly the practicality of his disables and AoE spell Dmg. I dont play the THD competitively, only in in-house/pubs (Though the level of tension and the desire to win is - arguably- no less), but i have had some 5v5 drafts against other lads with this hero.
Pros
The one thing people would notice most about the THD is his strength gain. At +2.3 per level its high for an intel hero, and at an +2.8 intel gain his mana is pretty decent too. This makes for a Nescafe mix of durable caster capable of Disabling, Nuking and
Soaking up some damage. Unlike most other casters he starts off with over 600hp, as opposed to the all too common <500. Presumably this is a real winner, and like the Ogre magi he's one of those "strength casters", offering a valuable presence particularly in the early game stage.
Cons
That said, the minus points sometimes make me wonder if liking this hero was a result of nothing more than a dragon fetish. When one examines the downside (thats DOWNside, not UNDERside -i dont like dragons in THAT way), its easy to see why. First off theres the issue of agi gain. Ordinarily this wouldnt matter for any caster; its usually just accepted as part of the trade off, particularly a supporting hero that doesnt see too much physical combat, but then again most heroes dont Ordinarily start off with ZERO armor and make up for it with 1.2 every bloody level. The THD's Dmg reduction is an award winning 2% at level 1, and at maxed 25, peak at a grand total of
