Midnite's Guide to the "Pound for Pound" King

Foreword

This guide is intended to shed light on the Troll Warlord's hidden potential as one of the "taken for granted" carries in the game. I created this guide because there is quite a few made for this hero due to the fact that Jah'rakal isn't an overall complicated hero to master. This guide may not be of much help to experienced players (Pros) but is a good guide for beginners. I've made it easy to understand for the general public.

Table of Contents

I... Hero Introduction
II... Pro's and Con's
III.. Skills
IV.. Items
V... Skill Build
VI.. Laning
VII. Friends and Foes

The Troll Warlord is a pure fighter, able to attack from a distance or up close, where he becomes stronger overall and may also bash. He capitalizes on attack speed, being able to strike and move quickly, as well as enhance his allies to sometimes do the same. Jah'rakal can also Blind his opponents, making it difficult for them to land attacks. Additionally, successive attacks landed on a target enable greater focus for Jah'rakal, greatly increasing his attack speed. If he is able to acquire items and momentum soon enough, there aren't many fighters who can best him.

When to pick Troll...

~ There are less than 3 stunners/nuke-rs in the opposite team
~ You want to make the bodies of your enemies litter the battlefield
~ Your team lacks a carry
~ You love to farm
~ You like to be the star player of the team

Don't pick Troll if...

~ There are a lot of disablers/stunners and nuke-rs on the opposing team
~ You don't have map awareness which is important for a jungler hero
~ You're impatient in farming which you will be doing most of the time
~ You don't know what a BKB is more or less know when and how to use it
~ Your a dumbshit

Pro's

[+] Hits really hard and really fast
[+] Can switch from ranged to melee and vice versa in a jiff
[+] Does not need a ton of mana (No mana problems)
[+] Fantastic farmer/jungler (one of the best in-game)
[+] Late game monster

Con's

[-] Low starting hit points
[-] No escape mechanism
[-] Fragile to nukes and chain stuns
[-] Always on top of the hit list
[-] Ugly as shit (let's face it he's no George Clooney)

*Skills

Berserker Rage

Jah'rakal goes berserk, using his throwing axes as melee weapons. He gains bonus damage, movement speed, attack speed, hit points, armor, and the Bash ability, but can only attack at melee range.

Blind

A searing light blinds the vision of a target enemy unit, making it miss on some attacks.

Fervor

When Jah'rakal engages an opponent, his animalistic nature grants him even greater proficiency in single combat. With each continuous blow on the same target, Jah'rakal gains understanding of the prey's defenses, and guides each strike with greater ease than the last.

Battle Trance

Jah'rakal unconsciously uses dormant magic to awaken the savagery of every warrior on the battlefield. Greatly increases attack speed for a short duration, and lasts twice the duration on Jah'rakal.

Items

*The thing about Troll is that he can turn the tides of war to your favor once he gets his core extensions and late game luxuries. That is why people often make early and mid game hard for you. They just won't let you farm.

Starting Items

cheap way to block damage and add stats
for speed... what else?
a must for a jungler hero such as yourself
don't run out of these babies especially TP
only on those special cases when your getting focused fired on

Core Items

Treads give you AS, MS, and the hp you need
Armor and life-steal
Trust me you'll get your money's worth

Core Extensions and Luxuries

You can't always rely on teammates that can grant you invisibility. Don't get cocky in using it though, you don't have that much mana to spare and at the cost of 75 mana it is still a lot
Your main luxury item. Provides you survivability on it's own due to the 30% evasion. I'd actually consider this as part of your core so get it as soon as possible
Adds greater life-steal and strength
Upgrade your Crystalys to score better criticals
AS, MS, and damage
I'm not a fan but I know I'll get sued if I don't include this so... here it is
You need some sort of survivability and this is the perfect item for the job because you often get pounded by stuns and nukes.
Due to popular demand I've decided to include this because it gives an additional +35 to your AS and the armor that Troll badly needs plus, the armor aura it gives to your allies
If you feel like you don't need the attributes that give anymore and you want to increase your poor MS further then go for it and push all the lanes
Another good survivability item that gives +40 additional strength and a solid 300HP that you require in order to stay in the middle of a clash longer without the fear of dying
works wonders during farming and even during clashes. Not the best choice though but is really fun to get if your facing noobs (no offense)
you had better be very sure (Good for slicing and dicing)

Don't forget to get this once you already have treads and HotD

Roshing

When you have completed your basic core which is HotD and Power Treads you can already take on Roshan alone but still be wary for it is likely that you would be killed in the process not by RS but by enemy heroes.

Tips:

1. Place wards on the surrounding area near Roshan's lair
2. Ask a teammate to watch your back while Roshing
3. Keep a low profile and don't Rosh simply because you have the items but because the coast is clear
4. Be mindful of enemy presence
5. Don't Rosh if enemy team is missing

*Notice that I didn't include the time when you should already have this and that because in my philosophy as a Troll player as long as you get the stuff you need to turn things around I don't see any reason why I should put a timer on you. Besides, I don't want to add more pressure to your already pressured ass.

Situational Items

get this if your always being chased by an enemy physical damage dealer
additional damage plus the mini-stuns. A perfect counter to Mortred and butterfly carriers
avoid being zapped all the time
bring pain to those who bring pain to you for half the price of AC. Just activate and watch as you return pure damage to your attacker for 4 seconds
a little splash damage won't hurt. Just imagine yourself as Sven on steroids
Since you will be farming a lot this may be of some use to you due to the transmutation it gives and adds +30 to your AS. Not such a bad item if you know how to use it.

Common Problems:

1. People often forget to use it once the cooldown is over.
2. Cooldown for this item is quite long for an ability that gives only 1.5 times a units normal experience as the bonus.
3. The gold it gives is only 2 times that of a units' normal value depending on the kind of unit targeted.
4. 1900gs is quite expensive and hard to farm.
5. It will surely delay your core/extensions.

*Not recommended in competitive games

Of course... It's up to you to adjust in certain situations.

Rejected Items

Mostly everything else that was not included above...

it's not really a total reject but who needs the mana it gives anyway and besides it's just too much gold
what's the point if your squishy eh, you don't need the AS it gives. What you need is some decent armor that can buff you enough and HotD gives just that
it ain't gonna work
this is a dead end and you can't upgrade it to a Satanic

Laning

Choosing a lane...

Choosing a lane is pretty easy for you. Just go to a lane where there's money to be made.

If you're playing as Scourge I'd recommend you go top and if you're playing for Sentinel the bottom lane is the best choice.

The idea is simple... always take the lane near the neutral's campsites to assure good farming. If you are facing dangerous heroes in a lane, I'd recommend you stick to the jungle and farm until you're ready to go out.

Remember that your more of a jungler than a laning hero so just keep farming up for those neutrals.

Always keep an eye out for these heroes they like to hunt you down. Be warned!

How to avoid ganks:

1. You must establish good communication with your teammates.
2. Place wards along key areas where ganks usually take place.
3. Don't stray in one place for too long/always move from one farming spot to another however it is not advisable that you farm in the other side of the river unless you have a companion and or your enemy is busy defending their base.

*Warning: Always watch out for missing enemy heroes.

Friends/Good Allies

In DotA anyone can help anyone so long as they know their specific functions and tasks in the game but of course there are some whose worth special mentions.

Stunners

They stun, you stun-lock.

Special Mentions

Shackles+BoomBoomPow+Voodoo+BoomBoomPawned

Can heal and feed you at the same time

A walking BKB... How convenient

Gives you great amount of healing armor, can stun enemies with his sentinels and make you invisible. And the best part is he can hold the entire enemy team for you to kill with no interference.

Foes/Bad Enemies

As I have said before every hero if played correctly is a potential threat to your existence even to a hero like Troll.

rs

ever been zapped to oblivion before?...

Stunners

Do not get caught up with these guys stuns. They'll stun you to death and use their combos to finish you off.

Summoners

Not once, not twice, not even thrice, sometimes even 10 times! Fervor wont work if you can't concentrate on one target. They are all irritatingly dangerous.

Other Late-game carries

You obviously don't want competition...If you know what you are then you know what they are.

So... He's your best friend and your arch enemy. Stun-lock to the maximum level bitches!

*Every Troll player must know that patience is a virtue and that your time will come soon before the endgame.

*Always remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer so that you can stun-lock them to death.

Screenshots and replays are coming soon...
