Being a regular player of PotM myself, I have being playing her for a while now. So here’s my post (more like a tribute) on How to play Mirana.
But wait. No I am not going to write a guide-guide to Mirana as those, you can easily get from Playdota-Guide section. What I am going to tell you is how actually to play her, her weaknesses and her strengths.
Her four abilities comprises of Starfall , Elune’s arrow, Leap and Team Invisibility . All four are some abilities in themselves. Starfall – area damage. Arrow – high nuke and second maximum level stun (5 seconds) possible in Dota , if properly used . Leap – the ability to move in and out of the battlefield and to chase . and Team invisibility – no need to explain that.
Now just because of the awesomeness of these powers, people tend to forget her *actual* power.That is her agility gain. She has one of the highest Agi-gain in the game. And THAT makes her so special, coupled with her abilities.
Below is how I play her. Only main points though. Needs a lot of practice.
Remember. The arrow is NOT her main power. Don’t just spend whole game trying to hit arrows and not farming and not killing, which should be your main aim . Just use the arrow as a nuke- as a weapon to give 360 odd damage. Just make it connect-even from a less range. Give mini-stun. A one second stun . More than enough for her to kill along with other tools.
Try not to leap in a gank unless you see the chance of getting a kill with a starfall or a hit or two. Try to use it to chase and kill rather than leaping in .
Starfall . DON’T underestimate it. Its freaking awesome. A Starfall-arrow combo is enough to bring a 800-hp hero down to 300 . Rest hit normal shots and leap-chase and own !
Try to rush to yasha as soon as possible. Yasha-power threads or boots of travel – along with 2-3 wraith bands and bottle is enough for her to last a whole normal game. Rest all are just luxuries .
Though the preferable orb effect is desolator, purge is also cool for her- these, in case you aren't planning on Skadi . Deso is good if you have strength spammers like ursa and axe etc in the opposition.
Do make bracers or occasional hood if the opposition has Lion or Tinker or one of the kind. You will really have low hp till you get the ultimate orb.
Keep the power threads in AGI mode please !
Use the starfall to farm as well. It rocks. Just starfall when one creep is below half its hp and hit one shot to the caster creep. Even if you are the worst farmer, you are sure to get 2 of the creeps.
In case you have melee hero in the lane against you, make sure you hit him at least 2 shots when he comes for a deny/last shot. Harass the hell out of him.
More advance stuff, animation cancel and others. But will not talk about them here. Those are to be generalized.
One particular case I would like to share. While playing on garena, I recently saw a mirana player going for a dagon-only level one though. So starfall-300+arrow-360+dagon-400 = 1060 damage. Even after reduction it goes to 800 something and still you can kill a hero. Try to keep hunting the carry.
