In pl you should start the game with 603 gold so
6 tangos 2 clarity one circlet 3 branches
then go for perseverence for mana and hp regen then after getting a boots of speed complete the battlefury with you and your illisions cleaving you will be much more dangerous than magnus or sven.

with giving stats and nuke in early levels and with your clarity potions you can harrass your opponent when ever you want
pl has amazing stats to do anything he is the probably most lucky hero in game for stats.
with giving to stats in early game you will not need any bracers or wraith bands and you can go for big items much easily, after a battlefury complete your phase bot (in 6.63) then go for vlad for leeching which makes you nearly immortal at midgame unless you face a 3-4 gank.

after that go for diffusal with your battlefury you can farm or jungle or with ganks you can made the diffusal in a few mintues.
after that go for the heart of tarrasque as phantom lancers main attiribute is that not himself deals the most of dps but his illisionz do. after tarrasque your illisionz and you will be immortal as no body wants to go into a 3k hp pl and his illisions. also with your ultimum you will have %20 magical reduction which becomes more frightening.
