1. Hero's Story
~Back to Table of Contents
An outcast of the Spirithoof clan, Barathrum retreated in shame to the Ethereal Plane, feeding off wandering souls to sustain himself, and wandered aimlessly for centuries, alone and miserable. Found and recruited by the Lich King, Barathrum's uncanny speed and wraithlike powers have now been unleashed upon the Material Plane, his lantern able to project nether energy into enemies, sending them backwards with sudden force. With the ability to close the distance between himself and a target in seconds, Barathrum the Spiritbreaker is more than a match for anyone.
2. Hero's Introduction
~Back to Table of Contents
Barathrum, rarely seem on the competitive scene, is a powerful chaser who dominate most of mid game. He has the abilities when coupled with items can make him permanently hasted. But unlike the Involker and Krobelus who can't / shouldn't be used as a chaser (they rely on their spells to kill), Barathrum can fully utilize the speed by converting it into damage.

WHEN TO PICK
- Pick him if you want to gank mid game without having to worry too much about your HP.
- Pick him if you wanna chase people and stock up kills.
- Pick him if you hate Cranium Basher.

WHEN NOT TO PICK
- You don't want to chase people around the map
- You want a carry who can 1 vs 5 late game or a wizard who can cast the shit out of people.
3. Hero's Info & Stats

- Charge of Darkness
Barathrum fixes his sight on an enemy and starts charging through all objects. Any unit that comes into contact during the charge triggers a greater bash proc. Upon leaving the shadows, Barathrum shocks his opponent into an immobile state for some time. Enemy can only see buff indicator when you are near them. Charge is interrupted if disabled.

Level 1 - Charge at 425 ms then stuns for 1.2 seconds
Level 2 - Charge at 500 ms then stuns for 1.6 seconds
Level 3 - Charge at 575 ms then stuns for 2 seconds
Level 4 - Charge at 650 ms then stuns for 2.4 seconds

Cooldown: 40 at all level
Manacost: 100 at all level
Description: Great for initiating a gank. A fairly long stun, and bash any enemy that comes into contact. You have 0 collision size when charging. Quite unreliable if you are playing in organized games, as these people will tend to know what they are doing and notice the buff. Disables will be thrown at you, so be careful. The best you can do while fighting with those people will be utilizing the stun it provides.

- Empowering Haste

Causes the Spiritbreaker to swing his weapon faster with higher movement speed, allowing him to deal extra damage. His presence increases the movement speed of nearby allied units.

Level 1 - Increases movement speed by 6% and damage by 4% of his movement speed.
Level 2 - Increases movement speed by 8% and damage by 8% of his movement speed.
Level 3 - Increases movement speed by 10% and damage by 12% of his movement speed.
Level 4 - Increases movement speed by 12% and damage by 16% of his movement speed.

Area of aura: 900 at all level
Description: Your signature skill. It provides enormous damage. It also affects nearby allies means they can escape/chase better with you around.

- Greater Bash

Gives a 17% chance to bash enemies across the ground, doing more initial damage and damage as they skid. You gain 15% movement speed bonus for 3 seconds when this triggers.

Level 1 - Deals 25 damage and stun for 0.95 seconds
Level 2 - Deals 50 damage and stun for 1.15 seconds
Level 3 - Deals 75 damage and stun for 1.35 seconds
Level 4 - Deals 100 damage and stun for 1.55 seconds

Cooldown: 1.5 seconds
Description:
The cooldown means that you can't perma bash people before level 4 of this skill is learned.
Quite low proc chance, meaning it's fairly hard to perma bash without some proper IAS items.
You may find that this skill can be quite annoying (or useful) while farming, as the damage is deal before the attack is completed. Well, using the damage for farming is again, up to your own skill, but I have to warn you that the damage is quite random, you can't rely on it (for farming at least)

- Nether Strike

Moves you next to your target doing extra damage. Performs a greater bash hit. Casting range improves per level.

Level 1 - Moves Barathrum next to the target, deals 100 damage.
Level 2 - Moves Barathrum next to the target, deals 200 damage.
Level 3 - Moves Barathrum next to the target, deals 300 damage.

Cooldown: 75 without Aghanim's, 20 with Aghanim's
Manacost: 125/150/175
Casting Range: 400/550/700 without Aghanim's, 550/700/850 with Aghanim's
Description: This skill is based of blink strike albeit having a huge cooldown, mana and damage. Also it will always proc a level 4 bash. Use it to finish of runaway enemies, but be careful of fountain teleporting (shown below)

Skill Build
Level 1 - Empowering Haste
Level 2 - Greater Bash
Level 3 - Empowering Haste
Level 4 - Charge of Darkness
Level 5 - Empowering Haste
Level 6 - Nether Strike
Level 7 - Empowering Haste
Level 8 - Greater Bash/Charge of Darkness
Level 9 - Greater Bash/Charge of Darkness
Level 10 - Greater Bash/Charge of Darkness
Level 11 - Nether Strike
Level 12 - Charge of Darkness/Greater Bash
Level 13 - Charge of Darkness/Greater Bash
Level 14 - Charge of Darkness/Greater Bash
Level 15 - Stats
Level 16 - Nether Strike
Level 17+ - Stats

Skill Build Justification:
Take all your skill, without any stats what so ever as any of your skills outshines stats benefits.
Maxing Haste first to provide you a huge edge of damage.
The next skill to max totally depend on you. If you are having a good game and having quite a few IAS items, take Bash to well, bash the shit out of people. Or if you are having a horrible game, cannot farm that much, take Charge (remember to call for helps)
Ultimate is skilled whenever possible, as usual.
6. Hero's Item Build

Item Build

Walking out of base:

or or

You get the picture. As long as it can give you some stats, additional last hitting/ lane staying power, and some adequate consumable regens.
The Core:

and maybe or or
Treads is prioritised over Phase as you won't need damage that much. Trust me, with the ms provided by Tread (or Phase) alone, you get 62 damages. In place of damage, you need IAS to maximize your damage (forming the square)
Jango is useful. The faster you are, the harder you hit. Jango increases both your damage and speed, so what else can you ask for.
MoM is wonderful. You can stay up ganking much longer than you think with lifesteal. Also, it synergies so good with bash, allowing you to make quick work of any opponents.
Armlet is an EXTENSION CORE. Getting this only after some sort of lifesteal if you can't manage your HP properly with this.
This can be a suggestion on how to use it: Armlet on Techies
TP scroll: No question about it. Will save your ass countless times.
If you don't like Armlet for some reason, you can simply take Urn (you will be ganking 24/7 so stacking up charge will be easy (don't get it if someone on your team already got it)
Cheap version of Deso. Why not?

Extensions

Cast aside your fear of being chain stun or instant killed by shits thrown at you and start beating people up.

IAS: check. IMS: check. HP: check. Damage: Check. Slow that do not interfere with lifesteal: check. Don't call this a fall back item. This one is really made for Barathrum.

Sort of okayish. Gain you some MP, some HP, some nice stats, reducing your cooldown to 20 although your MP won't support it. It's good to have though.

You are a chaser, there will be times you have to chase past the tower. This is when the damage block comes in handy. The extra HP is more than welcomed. Get this before the 30 minute mark. Otherwise aims for Heart instead

Do you want to get revenge on those who have thrown shits at you whenever they see you. Don't f#ck with us. Haters

It can be fun, having max ms all the time. It's quite useless, apart from the mana regen. You can use it to maximize Aghanim's potential though.

They can disarm you, you can do it to them too. Somewhat viable alternative to SnY. Also the evasion will go a long way. Make you stronger but less overall DPS though.

Rejected Items

Only if you can splash Bash (stun multiple people) otherwise skip this thing.

May your eyes works properly

Costly: Check. More than useless stats: check. Mana consuming: check. Being flamed for KS: check.

I know it's tempting to bash people around twice, but have some restrain yourself.

This boots provides more MS, but it doesn't worth your gold. Simply because you are a chaser, who will be hit a lot (tower tanking comes in mind), so it will be reverted back to basic boots, which then screw up your calculations. Although cheaper, you should just stick to the Tread.
7. Hero's Strategy
~Back to Table of Contents
Early Game - The Childhood

Farm for your past. Farm for your present. Farm for your future. Just farm.
Take Charge if you are facing a weak lane. With a stunner, you can grab First Blood.
Don't die. Leak exp if you need to level up, but don't take harassment. You will get them back later, so don't worry. If you die, you will screw up your mid game performance.

Mid Game - The Grown Ups

It's time to shine, you should start ganking by the time you hit level 6 till level 16. Didn't you want to get back on those pesky nukers? Now is your time to hit back.
Save the ultimate for the escapee if you can. Kill the first one fast (using MoM, Armlet or anything you have), let your mates jump one the other one, and then finish him off too using your ulti. If there are a carry present, give him the second kill. You need gold yourself, and you wouldn't be farming much.
You will be passing the rune spot lots of time as you are ganking, so take Bottle if no one have a need to rune whore. It will solve your mana problem.
A quick Aghanim can be useful, only when you get bottle or Cyclone with it. Otherwise it will only cause you headaches (worrying about your mana)

Late Game - The End of Time

I once heard a wise man said: A lone hero is a dead hero, even the bulkiest one. Stick to your team.
Pick the target before the team battle start and stick to your target. The priority will be the one with spells that can change the tide of the battle but not the carry. He will (and should be) stronger than you this late. When you finished off your target, get back and help the others asap.
Get as many luxury as you can, but save money for buy back. You can dish out quite a lot of damage as you are the second DPSer.

8. Hero's Hero Synergy
~Back to Table of Contents
You hit people to kill them, so anything or anyone who prevent you from doing so is your enemies, and whom ever make you harder, better, faster, stronger will be your allies.

- I hate this guy. You can't do shit to him. He out-stuns, out-nukes, out-bashes, and out-damages you. He can even push you around and forbids you from hitting him while he do other things. Or he can simply Ghost out of there if things are getting shitty.

- Worst scenario and opponent for a bulky strength hero.

- Free BKB, good heal, almost immune to Physical Damages, and an aoe slow. Who don't like him.

- He can get armlet for you, and also he have a stun, increase in MS (and in damage) and an increase is AS. He can also teleport with you, and/ or get you back if gank goes horribly wrong.

or or
- How can you kill someone who can't be hit. Many times that I have to watch them turn these on and laugh on my face when teleporting out. Get Cyclone (BKB in the last case) asap.
9. Conclusion
~Back to Table of Contents
- If you want to kill people with brute force and show your physical prowess, not mentioning being a terror ruling all mid game and/or you just wanna have fun and brag about having max MS all the time then this hero is the one you should play. He is quite easy to play, and fairly newbie friendly IMHO. ^^
