INTRODUCTION

Morted is one of the game-breaking hero with her critical. She has two semi-escape mechanism and can easily strike without attracting attention. After having some hard-core games with her, I realized that she should be bought to light. Though GhostofGuns's guide on her was superb I think its time to once again revive the legend. Im going to show a different way to play her so please be open-minded and test her before spamming my guide to a wall of text.

Damage 46-48
Armor 4.3
Attack Range 100
Attack animation 0.3/0.7
Strength 23 + 1.85
Casting time 0.3/0.5
Agility 17 + 3.15
Base Attack time 1.7
Intelligence 13 + 1
Missile speed Instant
Sight range 1800/800

Her Stats are a bit above average. She has great agility gain thanks to it being her primary even though her starting is average. Strength is amazing and the gain is also good whereas intelligence is ok since she won't be needing a high mana pool.

BACKGROUND

Born into the reclusive Night Elf order known as the Wardens and shunned by mainstream Night Elf society, Mortred pledged allegiance to the Scourge to take revenge. A perfect blend of strength and speed, the years spent alone in the forests of Ashenvale allowed her to blend into the terrain, appearing phantomlike at times and striking when you least expect it. The deadly precision with which she carries out her attacks has made her a valuable member of the Scourge, and it is clear why she is known as the Phantom Assassin.

- DPS MONSTER
- Highest critical in game
- Duo Semi-escape and chasing skills
- ULTRA FAST
- Super SNEAKY!
- CHUCK NORRIS'S STUDENT
- TAUGHT TROLL WARLORD HOW TO FIGHT

SKILLS AND SKILL BUILD

1. STIFFLING DAGGER
Hurls a dagger which deals minor pure damage and slows the unit's movement speed for a short duration. Deals half damage to heroes.

Notes

• Damage type: pure
• The projectile can't be dodged by blinking.

The slow is really good. Its 50% on all levels. A good way to use this would be to wait for you opponent to have at least 1 creeps then as soon as he turns back slow him. Your creeps will get in some good shots.

2. Phantom Strike
Teleports to a unit and attacks it. Gains 100% attack speed for 3 seconds while attacking that same target. Maximum of 4 attacks.

Notes

• Can blink to allies or enemies.

This is your main initiating skill in fights. You can blink in unnoticed and can wreak havoc from the inside.

3. Blur
The Phantom Assassin becomes hard to see by blurring her body and disappearing from the minimap when near enemy heroes. Some enemy attacks miss.

Notes

• Does not stack with evasion from Butterfly.
• Mortred gains 80% transparency when an enemy hero is in a 1600 AoE.
• Has a 1.5s delay before the transparency is applied or removed.

Not much to say. A useful passive against DPS heroes.

4. Coup de Grace
Mortred has refined her hero-killing skills to a high degree.

This is the ultimate critical strike in the whole game. Combined with a few DPS items it can chop down anything as long as you can withstand it.

1. Phantom Strike 1
2. Stifling Dagger 1
3. Blur 1
4. Phantom Strike 2
5. Phantom Strike 3
6. Coup de Grace 1
7. Phantom Strike 4
8. Blur 2
9. Stifling Dagger 2
10. Blur 3
11. Coup de Grace 2
12. Stifling Dagger 3
13. Stifling Dagger 4
14. Blur 4

16. Coup de Grace 3

JUSTIFICATION:
This skill build is my personal favorite. Some might disagree with maxing out phantom strike first and stifling dagger last but I have my reasons. This is so because I don't prefer dagger-hitting creeps. I find it easier to last-hit them with attacks. We max it out first so that we can easily move in-and-out of some sticky situations but we take an early level of each skill for maximum efficiency. Such as knowing whether we are going to get ganked with blur, slowing an enemy in ganks e.t.c. Rest is pretty self-explanatory. Coup-De-Grace is taken whenever available.

ITEM BUILDS

CORE

Average Item Time-line:
9 min - Hands Of Midas
13 min - Power Treads
17 min - HoTD

Thanks to your critical s, you should be able to lifesteal a good amount. So we take HoTD. We could replace this with Vladamir's Offering but the fact is that we want to upgrade it to satanic. Also this gives you 5 armor,20 damage and you can dominate a nice centaur or furblog to assist you.

Power Treads are the best on Morted. They outshine all the rest, yes, even phase boots or BoT. It gives Morted exactly what she needs. Speed, some attack speed and a few stats.

Whatever you think or know of HoM, Forget it. This is a great item on her because:
- Increased Attack Speed
- Increased Farming

Now even though the gold is fixed(190 gold) for each neutral you can transmute creeps as well.

CORE EXTENSION:

Cranium Basher:
Need an some more damage and HP or do you want to stun those guys?Cranium basher is the best item for you.

Armlet Of Modriggan:

Do you need some extra damage or burst HP?Or maybe a faster attack rate well this armlet has it all. This would only do good if farmed in midgame but after your core.

Battle Fury:
Do you need to farm faster with more damage? Thanks to the cleave your 2 or 3 criticals can farm entire waves.

NOTE: Many people suggest this is core but it is not. The cleave is not necessary and an armlet can do much better for a lower price. Still, it is a viable item.

Satanic:
Satanic is one of the best items on morted. It gives him imba survivability along with damage. Best get this late-game as when you use combined with your critical it means an instant-heal.

Orb Of Venom:
Orb of venom is a great item when you want to slow your opponents. This has some strange reaction with lifesteal but nonetheless it works.

Black King Bar:
Does that tiny blinks in a team-fight and kills you before you can land a hit with his combo? Not to worry, BKB gives you damage, survivability and magic immunity.

Sange And Yasha:
Now that it is no longer an orb effect it is useful on morted. If you don't like sange then make a Manta Style.

The Butterfly:
Butterfly is one of the best items on any agi hero. The same applies to mortred. Some people may disagree that it is now good since the evasion doesn't stack but the fact is even if it doesn't stack both are taken into consideration when someone attacks you. So that means that first your blur evasion will be taken into account, if it doesn't evades the attack then the butterfly evasion will be taken into account, meaning your overall chances to evade an attack will increase.

STARTING ITEMS:

This is my common build for most melee heroes. It gives morted perfect stats and nice heals along with better last-hitting ability.

EARLY GAME:
Take your items and choose a lane, preferably with a healer or babysitter on bot for sentinel and top for scourge. Focus on last-hitting and try to have someone ward the jungle entrances so that you have some awareness. Participate in ganks but just help by throwing daggers from a safe distance and the KS with blink (killsteal). Here is a guide on how to kill steal:

http://www.playdota.com/forums/451496/how-killsteal/

Once you hit level 6 or 7 you should start jungling if you prefer. Treads and Midas should be completed ASAP. Your mid-game starts when you get these.

MID GAME:
In mid-game the only item you have to make is HoTD. Once done you are free to do whatever you please. Try to kill any squishy heroes such as rhasta, sniper e.t.c. You should dominate a creep and then stack the ancients. To kill the ancients a Vanguard or BKB would suffice. You need HP to tank their damage. Towers are your main source of income late-game. Whenever you need instant-cash take down a tower. Near the end, start on a luxury.

LATE-GAME:
Late-game is your era of ownage. If you got good farm then you should be able to own now. There is a high chance of team-fights so you should remain with your team. When the battle starts, wait for you initiator a.k.a AoE stunners to do their thing then rush in to the weakest hero you find be it support or carry. You can easily farm up a luxury and once you do try to save up enough money for a buy-back.

THE GOOD,THE BAD AND THE FOOD

Any hero that can make your enemy stay still while you chop them down is your best friend. Special mention to rhasta, pudge and storm spirit.

Be on your guard whenever there is a nuker on the other team. When you chop them down and it looks like you are gonna win they use nukes and you are floating away.

Theses guys are squishy and don't have any nukes. They fall in the cateogry of FOOD. Don't go over aggresive on them but be sure to kill them regularly.

REPLAYS:

A casual morted with a friend, I play pretty lazy since its my first time but its fun and shows how powerful you can go in late-game.
