P.S. This is a support(!) guide for Omniknight. So, if you can't play a game without focusing on killing and farming then don't read this guide.


A former member of the Order of the Silver Hand, Purist has joined the Sentinel to avenge the death of the Order's leader, Uther the Lightbringer. Trained by Uther himself in the ways of the Paladin, Purist brings the power of the Holy Light to the battlefield. He can purify the souls of allies, harming any nearby Scourge in the process. Able to protect allies from harmful unholy magic, the mere presence of a man of the Holy Light atrophies any nearby enemies. In times of dire need, Purist can call upon God himself to protect him and his allies.


A noble hero through and through, the Omniknight uses his powerful support and healing abilities to turn the tide of battle. Purification, a direct healing spell, instantly heals a large portion of the targets life. However, it doubles as a powerful offensive ability, dealing massive damage to all foes surrounding the target being healed. Repel allows the Omniknight to make a target ally immune to most spells for an extended period of time, although it makes them unable to be targeted by Purification. Enemies who try to escape Purist's holy wrath will find it difficult to flee from his Degeneration Aura, which passively slows the movement of all nearby foes. Finally, his Guardian Angel can single-handedly turn the tide of any battle. This powerful protective spell grants all allies within range near-invulnerability to physical damage, as well as rapid healing. His peerless support skills in the heat of battle make the Omniknight an invaluable member of any team.

It is important to get Repel as a first skill. Reason for that is because, usually, it is more useful on first two levels. You can can cast it on your allies or yourself in order to prevent magical attack. Next time I skill Repel is at level 12. I do this because I prefer to cast heal on my team mate rather than let them be immune to magic 2/4/6 seconds. Only time when you should skill Repel before Degen Aura is when your opponents have a lot of skills that deal magic damage.

Purification should be maxed as by the time you are level 7. It is great spell since you can both heal and deal damage at same time.

After Purification I max Degen Aura. It is great skill to kill your opponents when you and your carry are ganking them. Since they cannot run away from you casting Purification on yourself or your carry is much easier.

Guardian Angel is one of the best skills in game. Theoretically, you can join 5v5 fight and win it while no player in your team loses more than 50 hit points. You should max this skill as soon as you can.

Early Game Core Items

Another Item Suggestions

Buying x2 Clarity Potions means you will have more mana. More mana means you stay on lane and you don't lose precious experience.

Ring of Basilius adds mana regen and armor aura. Additional two armor can sometimes save your life, and your allies will always be happy to have higher mana regen.

Urn of Shadows is another great early game item for Omniknight. Mana regeneration along with heal will make your hero very powerful. You will not have to go back to fountain to regenerate.

Power treads is good item for Purist. Gaining some more health will not hurt you. Furthermore, you can always switch treads to Intellect if you need mana to cast your spell.

You may think Blademail makes no sence, but I like this item. It gives you 10 intellect which is very good. Additionally, it gives armor, damage and most importantly spikes(damage return)!. When you are being attacked you can destroy your opponent by activating Blade Mail and healing yourself. In public games you will not always be behind everyone supporting. You can initiate a fight with Blade Mail, because sometimes you will not have a tank in your public game.
Note: If you don't like Blade Mail on Purist, that is perfectly fine. You can replace it with combination of Mekansm and Null Talisman.

Soul Ring is very common item for Omniknight. Theoretically, if you buy one you will have unlimited mana and health. It is good item to counter heroes with mana burn.

Arcane boots is good. This item will let you spam your abilities for very long time.

Magic Stick is very simple item but so good. Buy this item if you are playing against heroes that cast spells very often.

If you have trouble on your lane Bracer is good solution. Also, you can turn it into Ancient Janggo of Endurance.

Similar to bracer but gives you mana. If you think you need more mana to be able to cast all your skills buy it.

Since you are support, your team may ask you to buy wards. It is another way to help your team. However, make sure you are not buying them during whole game because you will have hard time making items you need.

Core items are cheap and it will not be problem for you to farm them even if you give your carry all creeps and kills. Also, they will make your hero very tough. With so much armor and mana regeneration you will be able to support your team and even initiate fights.

Late Game Items

Another Item Suggestions

Shiva's Guard is very good item for your paladin. It gives really good benefits like intellect, even more armor, armor reduction yo your enemies and Arctic Blast.

Mekansm is great item for support heroes. By this time, it will be your third heal along with Purification and Urn of Shadows and again, more armor.

Khadgar's Pipe of Insight is great item against spell damage. This is good counter for ultimates of Lich, Earthshaker, Enigma, Akasha and many more.

Guinsoo's Scythe of Vyse probably best item for disabling enemy heroes. Great counter for carries. Also, it gives you insane mana regeneration.

Eul's Scepter of Divinity is good item, relatively cheap. Gives you mana regeneration and ability to disable opponent, prevent their cast or save yourself. Furthermore, it gives you +25 ms which is perfect with your Degen Aura.

Dagger is good for escaping, catching your target or casting your ultimate.

Overall, you will have a lot of mana and mana regenerations, a lot of auras and a lot of armor. Enemies will simply give up trying to kill you.

P.S. Always carry this item and I mean always. It will save your life.
Babysit Your Carry:
First, never go on mid. You are support and you should act like one. Lane with your carry. Your duty is to protect them while they farm as much as they can. Try to focus on denying creeps and not on killing enemy creeps. That is how support should play. If you cannot do this, you should not play support.

How to Kill:
When going for a kill, communicate with your carry. You should maximize your efficiency. Tell your carry to dive then heal them, after that repel them fast. Your enemies will be disorientated. If they go for you, that's no problem, just run back while your carry hits them like mad. It is all about communication and ability to think fast when playing Omniknight. Sometimes it is better to Repel one target, other time it is different target. It is all about practice. Practice makes perfect.

Be With Your Team:
Always be with your team. Don't farm if your team is ganking enemies or defending base. While it is important to get as much experience and gold as possible (without compromising your carry), it is much more important to support your team. At 25-30 minute you can even start initiating fights. If you don't have a tank, Omniknight is capable of starting a fight. However, don't forget that your main job is to support and not tank, so don't be in front lines for long.
Let Your Carry Get All Kills
Both creep kills and hero kills. However, this doesn't mean you should end up with 10 creeps killed by the end of game. You should kill creeps when you are solo on lane and when you can kill camp or two in woods.

Let Your Carry Get Towers
Destroying tower gives much gold, but you should not be tempted to destroy it. Let your carry do that. Destroy tower only if there is no allies close to you.

Play Careful Against Heroes With Mana Burn and Silence
Use your Repel as protection. Place it on yourself as fast as possible if you are getting drained by Lion, being attacked by Medusa or burned by Nortrom. If laning with Anti-Mage, stay back and let your carry farm while you heal.
P.S. If you have big trouble keeping your mana, change lane asap!

Get Items
It is really important to get items fast. It seems hard to do so, but it is not. Core items are really cheap, by the time you buy Ring of Basilius, Urn of Shadows and Boots of Speed you will be powerful support.

Be Aware of What's Going On
Always check minimap, this way you can prevent gank and save your team mate by informing them. Read chat, chat is probably only way to communicate in random public game so it is essential do read it.


If you decided to play support hero no matter which one, I bow to you. Most people don't play support because they all want easy kills which is totally opposite to what support should do. Practicing will make you better, don't give up. I hope you found my first guide useful.
