Darkterror - Faceless Void
A guide by Xellos
A guide by Xellos
They say he was once human, but his background is shrouded in darkness, even to himself. What we know is that he was thrown into the Void between worlds and has emerged with the power of manipulating time. He can freeze his enemies in time and avoid hits by traveling a split-second back in time, right before receiving the blow. He can briefly rip apart the fabric of space-time to freeze both allies and opponents around him, yet remain free himself to act. It is rumored that he can instantly strike any man in a legion of soldiers, but nobody sees him move...

Stats:
Strength: 23 +1.4/level
Agility: 21 +2.65/level
Intelligence: 15 +1.5/level
Base Damage: 58 - 64
Base Armor: 4
Base Movement speed: 300
Attack Range: 128 (Melee)
This is my first guide here on playdota.com and I want to present you one of my favorite heros: Darkterror. As you can see, heīs an agility heroe with melee attack. Heīs very strong in midgame and lategame but not so great in earlygame because heīs very item dependant.
Skills:
Time Walk
Quickly moves to a target location and slows the movement and attack of all units at the end of its path for 3 seconds.
All levels: 120 mana, 300 range slow, 13 cool-down, 3 seconds, invulnerable travel
Level 1: 10% slow, 700 range
Level 2: 20% slow, 900 range
Level 3: 30% slow, 1100 range
Level 4: 40% slow, 1300 range
A very usefull spell which can be used to get near the enemy and slow escaping heroes. In addition to that we can use Time Walk to escape and dodge spells, more to that later. Of course you can just travel forwards and escape so, but often there are better options to escape with this spell, Iīll show it to you later.
Backtrack
Whenever damage is received, Faceless Void moves a moment back in time to try to dodge that damage. Can backtrack both physical and magical attacks.
All levels: Passive, dodge spell damage and physical
Level 1: 10% chance to dodge damage
Level 2: 15% chance to dodge damage
Level 3: 20% chance to dodge damage
Level 4: 25% chance to dodge damage
A very usefull spell to avoid a few attacks, really effektive gainst heros with a high attack speed like Clinkz or Riki. Many people say that Backtrack does not stack with the Evasion from Butterfly but that is wrong. Backtrack isnīt a Evasion-based skill, itīs a heal when you recive damage. If the damage is higher than your hitpoints you canīt dodge the spell with Backtrack and youīll die.
Time Lock
Gives a chance that an attack will do bonus damage and lock a unit in time
All levels: Passive, 1 sec stun on hero, 2 sec stun on creep
Level 1: 10% chance, 40 bonus damage
Level 2: 15% chance, 50 bonus damage
Level 3: 20% chance, 60 bonus damage
Level 4: 25% chance, 70 bonus damage
The skill witch is most important for Faceless Void. Good bash chance and some magical bonus damage. Does not stack with Cranium Basher of course! Nearly useless without enough AS.
Chronosphere
Faceless Void creates a rip in spacetime causing all units in that area to become trapped for its duration. Faceless Void has a mysterious connection with spacetime that causes him to be unaffected by the sphere. Casting range increases per level.
All levels: AoE of 425, Aghanim's Scepter upgrades this spell
Level 1: Range 500, Duration 3 sec, Mana cost 150
Level 2: Range 550, Duration 4 sec, Mana cost 175
Level 3: Range 600, Duration 5 sec, Mana cost 200
The ultimate of Darkterror, freezes everything in a huge area, except from Darkterror himself and units he controlls. Iīll explain how to use this spell right later. Cepter increases the Duration by 1 seconds at each level and reduces cooldown to 75 seconds at each level. Note: Chronos stops even Radiance!

Item Build:
Earlygame items:
Wraith Bands to get some Stats and of course Boots. We buy AGI-PT because it gives you some bonus damage a nice AS boost (25 normal AS bonus + 10% AS from the 10 agility bonus). Thatīs important because we need a high AS to make as much damage an bashes as possible while the enemy is trapped inside of our Chronosphere.
Midgame items:
MoM is one of the best items you can get for Void: It grants a huge attack- and movement-speed bonus but makes you 30% more vulnerable. But if we use the MoM when we are in our Chronosphere where the enemies canīt attack us we will not take any serious damage. Iīll give a detailed description how to use the MoM later.
After you finished the MoM you can continue with one of the following items:
-Yasha: If you want to skip the expensive midgame items and rush directly for Butterfly you should buy at least a Yasha. It grants you +16 agility(+16 DMG and +16% AS), +15 AS and 10% MS. With our AGI-PT, our MoM and our Yasha we have enough damage, AS and MS to make kills in the midgame so we can begin now with getting Butterfly.
-Battlefury: It doesnīt grants any AS but it gives us some very cheap damage, additional regeneration and 35% cleave. With our cleave we can easily make double-kills if we trap 2 or more low-HP heros near each other in our Chronosphere. In addition to that we can easily farm large creep-waves what helpes us to get our expensive lategame items.
-MKB: People often say that the mini-stun doesnīt stacks with your Bash but they are wrong! The Bash with the longest duration always overwrites the shorter Bash. That means if you bashed an enemy and then make a mini-bash with your MKB your stun overwrites the shorter bash from the MKB. The MKB gives you +80 damage and +15 AS but it costs 5400g. Because of its high costs I would not buy this item unless you play against heros with a very high evasion chance like Mortred.
Lategame items:
Butterfly is a realy important lategame item, it gives you very much AS, +60(!) damage and a nice evasion chance, which stacks with your Backtrack. Buriza is often the last item I buy, because the game is nearly ended then. It gives you again some damage and a real nice krit(x2,4). Buy Buriza if you focus on killing single heros with many HP but if there are many low-HP heros and you decided to buy Yasha or MKB in midgame buy a Battlefury! With your very high damage you can easily make double- or tripple kills if you are abled to trap 2 or 3 low-HP heros near each other in your Chronosphere.
Optional Items:
Itīs possible to buy Cepter, but I donīt recommand it. It increases the duration of your Chronosphere by 1 second at each level and reduces the cooldown to 75 seconds, independend of the level of Chronosphere. It gives your some stats and additional survivability but itīs very expensive.
If the enemy got much disabler or stunner like Rhasta or Lion itīs possible to buy BKB but often itīs enough to use Time Walk to get near to them and then trap them in your Chronosphere so that they donīt have a chance to use their spells.
If your allies don`t have an Assault Cuirass you can buy it as last item after Buriza.
You can buy a Poor Manīs Shield and 1 Wraith Band instead of 2 Wraith Bands.
You can buy Hands of Midas but I wouldnīt recommand it. Buy it only if you realy use 'Transmute' as often as possible.
Usefull item because of 'Unholy Strength' it totaly increases your damage by 40 and your AS by 25 if your activate it.
DIVINE PAPER!!!!!!11111
Items you shouldnīt buy with Faceless Void:
If you have got the right items you should be abled to kill your enemys without a second Chronosphere. In addition to that you often havenīt got enough Mana to use Refresher Orb and cast another Chronosphere.
Donīt buy Orbs, you already have your MoM with a 17% lifesteal. Buy other Orbs is gold waste.
Sounds like a very good idea because it grants you very much AGI, AS and DMG and your illusions can move in your Chronosphere but it isnīt. Illusions can not Bash and there are other items who work ways better on Void.
Another often made mistake: You have already a spell, which blocks the complete incomming damage. You shouldnīt play Void like a tank and assault the enemies without your Chronosphere or a disable from your allies so you will not take much damage. It helps you in the earlygame but after you have MoM and Yasha/Battlefury/MKB it will be nearly useless.
You can use your Time Walk to get close to your enemies or escape from them.
Tactics:
Earlygame:
In the earlygame we try to avoid as much damage as possible and try to make some lasthits. If your allies try to gang, you should always be there to gain EXP and help them with your slow/Chronosphere. You shouldnīt use your Time Walk to often, so that you can use it to escape when you get ganged. Donīt use your Time Walk just to get away from the enemy in a straight line, try to walk over a line of trees or a cliff, so your enemy canīt follows you directly(for some examples look below 'Escape').
Midgame:
If you have your MoM, you should try to make some kills. Itīs very important that you get as much kills as possible for buying your next, very expensive items. If 2 heroes both got low HP, you can try to make a Double Kill, but if your Chronosphere isnīt ready or you havenīt enough mana, donīt do it! Your MoM grants you a realy insane AS boost, but you take 30% more damage from the enemy. Without your Chronosphere you can only disable one heroe with your Bashes, the other one will attack you or cast spells on you. Void doesnīt have enough HP to survive that much damage, and if the enemys have a stun, you are quicker dead than you can say: "Sh*t!"
Lategame:
Now you should have all your Skills at Level 4 and your Butterfly should be finished. Now you can kill the most intelligence and agility heros without using your Chronosphere. And with your Chronosphere the most tanks arenīt a real problem for you. But at any time of the game you especially have to beware of stunner and disabler. Try to trap them in your Chronosphere and kill them before they can stun you. If there are 2 or more tanks/disabler/stunner and you want to make a kill try it only if you have enough mana for Chronosphere and Time Walk to escape after your kill, more to that below 'Kills'.
Kills:
Earlygame:
In the Earlygame Void is very weak and itīs nearly impossible to make a kill alone. If the enemy has already low life you should try to get close to him, make a few hits and trap him in your Chronosphere when he tries to run away. If there are 2 or more enemies you should try to get near to them without your Time Walk, trap both instantly in your Chronosphere and kill the weaker one. If your Chronosphere ends you use your Time Walk to escape before you get too much damage from the other hero.
Midgame:
In the Midgame Void is with the right items one of the best heroes against mages and intelligence heroes. You use your Time Walk to get close enough to your enemy to trap him in your Chronosphere, activate your MoM and kill him. Against heros with Wind Walk and other invis skills you shouldnīt use your Chronosphere instantly: Try to attack them normal, youīll get some damage because your MoM, so they will often try to fight. If they have low HP use your Chronsphere to trap them, so that they canīt use their Wind Walk and finish them off!
Lategame:
Now you can kill mages and agility heroes easily without your Chronosphere by perma-bashing them with your incredible high AS from your Butterfly and your MoM. Disabler and tanks which deal high damage should be still trapped with your Chronosphere. If your team gangs, you shouldnīt use your Ulti because you freeze your allies too. Iīve seen often that some Void players use their Ulti to steal the kill, but donīt do it. First itīs a Ulti waste and second itīs very bad behavior in DotA to steal kills. In team battles you should fight like that: At the beginning of a battle you should try with your Chronosphere to trap them all and kill one of their casters or a low HP damage dealer like Clinkz. Then use your Time Walk to get back to your team and advance the other enemies. Activate your MoM and disable their damage dealer or their disablear with a perma-bash. But be carefull if you get focussed(you get 30% more DMG from your Berserk), then you should try to leave the battle with your Time Walk and let your team do the rest.
Escape:
1. The right use of Time Walk:
To use Time Walk just for getting realy fast forward often isnīt enough if you try to escape, especially if you have Bloodseeker or an other fast enemy behind you. Try to use Time Walk to run over a cliff or threw some trees, so that the enemy has to run around the cliff/ the trees to get to you.
2. General tips:
If the enemy is direct behind you and your Time Walk isnīt ready try to run over a ramp, turn around at the top of the ramp and then run in the other direction. This works only is the enemy is realy close to you:
1. We move on top of a ramp
2. We turn around an look when our enemy is nearly on the top
3. Then we run down the ramp, when he just reached the top
If you play against Invoker for example you shouldnīt run the dircet way to your base, because heīll try to kill you with his Sunstrike(Sunstrike is a AoE spell, which you can cast anywhere on the map). If you run the direct way, try to run near your own creeps, because Sunstrike splits up its damage to all targets in the AoE(for example Sunstrike deals 300 damage and there are you and 2 creeps in the AoE: You and every creeps will only recive 100 damage).
Spell dodging:
Now Iīll explain how to dodge spells with your Time Walk. While traveling with Time Walk, you get invulnerable and thatīs how we dodge incomming spell-projectiles. In the following picture we see Storm Spirit dodging Sniperīs Assasinate with his ultimate. To dodge spells with Time Walk is nearly the same, but itīs a bit more difficult then dodging with Stormīs Ball Lightning because you canīt travel as long as Storm. When the projectile is near you, you use Time Walk to get invulnerable before it hits you. If you use Time Walk too early, you will get vulnerable again before the projectile hits you and you will die, same result as if you use Time Walk too late.
So practise together with a friend until you are abled to use Time Walk at the right moment.
The Chronsphere:
I already described the ability itself, now I want to tell you how to use it correct. If your try to kill one hero you shouldnīt use the Chronsophere right at the beginning, try to wait until he tries to run away and trap him them. An exception is the fight against disablers and stunners. If you try to kill a hero like Rhasta or Lion with so much disables, you should use your Chronosphere instantly to trap them so that they canīt use their disables. OF course Chronosphere can be used for many other things: If your team has many ranged heroes, try to trap as much enemys inside your Chronosphere so that your ranged heroes can attack them. The most enemies think that they are safe near a tower, bad mistake! You can freeze the tower easily in your Chronosphere, kill the hero and run away. Also very usefull in early game: You freeze the tower and let your ranged teammates kill it(in this way you can prevent the enemy from denying his towers, but IMO is this a waste of your Chronos). And last but not least the Chronosphere stops Radiance while active. The Black King Bar:
Many people say that heros with a BKB can move inside of your Chronosphere, but this is wrong! Only units who belong to Void can move inside of your Chronosphere. The Mask of Madness:
The Mask of Madness is the core item of Darkterror. It grants a 17% Lifesteal and the Berserk ability:Quote:
|
Gives +100 attack speed and +20% movement speed but causes you to take 30% extra damage Lasts 12 seconds, costs 25 mana, and has a 25 second cooldown |
Best friends and worst enemies:
Friends:
Babysitter in the earlygame.
Heros with a long stun or disable who allow Void to use his MoM without any danger outside of his Chronos.
Long ranged heros who can shoot enemies inside of your Chronos.
Enemies:
Heros with too many HP for killing them during your Chronosphere and heros who can make them invulnerable before you can trap them or just revive after killing them.
Heros who spam illusions.
Special Enemies:
Those heros got passives who work inside of your Chronosphere and make it very diffucult for Void to kill them(without taking very much damage).
